Ho Chi Minh City Market - Let's Explore
Join me for a visit to the Tan My Market, one of the most interesting local markets in Ho Chi Minh City. Most people that visit Ho Chi Minh City or Saigon for the first time end up at the Ben Thanh Market. Nothing wrong with that, it's an interesting place too, one of the oldest markets in the country. But it left behind it's traditional roots along time ago and today is geared almost exclusively to tourists. If you want a true authentic market experience, I mean where they still kill chickens to order, sell live fish, frogs, and other seafood out of tanks or aluminum trays, then head for the Tan My Market in District 7 or one of several traditional markets that still do business everyday in and around the greater Ho Chi Minh area. Not only will you be able to observe daily life in a neighborhood like this one, but you won't be constantly asked if you want to buy a t-shirt, or coffee, or anything! In fact if you have any engagement at all with locals it will be the friendly warm welcoming that people in these neighborhoods exude, especially at the sign of a rare visit from a foreigner. If you do want to buy, most everyone will be happy to help you, and even though their English skills will be limited or non existent, they'll still find a way to communicate. I also find in these markets that everyone is fairly honest, in fact I would be shocked if you weren't given the local price everyone else gets. Thanks for watching! I would love to connect with you. 23 Things To Do In Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) Vietnam

►FREE eBook:
When I was in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), along with eating as much Vietnamese food as I could, one of my goals was to film a travel video about some of the best things to do in Saigon. After putting together a complete list, it turned out to be 23, and I hope this list of attractions will help and inspire you to visit Vietnam’s largest and most exciting city.
1. Binh Tay Market - Binh Tay Market is one of the largest wholesale distribution markets, and a perfect place to go if you’re looking to go shopping in Ho Chi Minh City.
2. Thien Hau Temple (Pagoda) - Located in Chinatown, in District 5, the temple is dedicated to Thien Hau and I really loved the sculptures and the elaborate design of the temple.
3. Museum of Ho Chi Minh City - This museum offers a glimpse into the history and development of the city and Vietnam.
4. Bitexco Financial Tower - This is the tallest building in Saigon, and you can either go to the Skydeck or a cafe at the top for a view of the city.
5. Independence Palace (Reunification Palace) - Probably one of the most well known tourism things to do in Saigon is to visit the Independence Palace, the the former home of the president of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
6. Saigon Cathedral of Notre Dame - With the French influence in Vietnam, the Notre Dame cathedral is a beautiful Catholic church. Attend a service or just visit.
7. Central Post Office - Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh City is an attraction mainly for its design and architecture. It’s a beautiful building.
8. War Remnants Museum - Although this is not one of the happiest attractions in Saigon, it’s a place to remember and honor the horrible events that are a result of a war.
9. Opera House - Right in Dong Khoi area, and there are still opera shows available.
10. Dong Khoi Street - This is the height of high end shopping in Saigon.
11. Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens - The zoo itself is not too great, but the beauty of the Saigon zoo is the botanical gardens, and the lush gardens, and taking a break from the city.
12. FITO Museum (Museum of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine) - I was quite impressed by the Vietnamese medicine private museum - very interactive and educational.
13. San Art Laboratory – If you love modern art, the San Art Laboratory is a great place to see and visit in Saigon.
14. Turtle Lake at Night - If you’re looking for some things to do at night in Saigon, head to Turtle Lake to chill out, relax, hang out with friends, and eat snacks.
15. Ben Thanh Market - One of the most famous things to do in Saigon District 1 is visit the Ben Thanh Market, one of the major central landmarks of the city.
16. Phu My Hung and Starlight Bridge - Located outside of central Ho Chi Minh City, Phu My Hung is a modern development, and a great place to walk around.
17. Water Puppet Show - Though originally from the north of Vietnam, water puppet shows are popular also in Saigon. I went to the Golden Dragon Water Puppet theater.
18. Museum of Vietnamese History - Probably one of the most extensive and important museum showing the history of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City.
19. Rooftop Bar - Seeing Saigon from above offers a great perspective.
20. Fine Arts Museum - This was my favorite of all the museums in Saigon. The museum is housed in a well preserved building, and the art is amazing - located right in District 1 across the roundabout from Ben Thanh Market.
21. Jade Emperor Pagoda - Dedicated to the Jade Emperor, the pagoda has a real ancient feel to it, and it’s worth seeing when you visit.
22. Local Wet Market - One of my favorite things to do is visit a local fresh wet market, which you’ll find all over the city. The ingredients, food, and culture, all stand out at fresh markets.
23. Vietnamese Street Food - By my ultimate favorite activity in Saigon is eating street food, and there are an abundance of delicious Vietnamese street foods to sample.
Thank you for watching this video about the top 23 things to do in Saigon, Vietnam. I hope it has given you some great ideas to help you plan your visit.

Everyone who has visited Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam knows part of the magic (love it or hate it) is in the traffic. Ever since I first set foot in HCMC I have been captivated by the cities energy. Saigon is a city on the move unlike anything I have experienced before which I wanted to capture and share.
Ho Chi Minh City Airport - Arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Vietnam - Airport info
Arriving at Ho Chi Minh City Airport called Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN). If this is your first visit to the Ho Chi Minh City Airport (Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport) you should find this video helpful for getting an idea of the airport procedures when you arrive at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Vietnam.
This Ho Chi Minh City Airport footage is filmed from the disembarkation of our flight, through the walk to Immigration / Passport Control (Vietnam Visa clearance etc. is not included in the footage as filming is not allowed in this part of Tan Son Nhat International Airport - quite normal at all airports in the world), from Immigration to the Baggage Claim Area (in the Baggage Claim Area of this airport we explain how to find out from which baggage belt you flights luggage will be offloaded on), after we receive our luggage we proceed towards the airport customs area. There is not an area of Something to declare Nothing to Declare like most other international arrivals customs areas at airports. At Ho Chi Minh City Airport all passengers instead have to run all their luggage through another security scanner from where airport customs officials van see what the luggage contains. After clearing customs we reach Ho Chi Minh City Airports main arrival area. From this area we recommend travelers to use the money exchange desks, Telephone card desks (SIM Cards) and taxi services, airport shuttle services and limousines or get information about Airport buses to Ho Chi Minh City. We advice that you shop around for the best exchange rate as exchange rates are negotiable and there can be a large difference in pricing. We also ordered a taxi to Ho Chi Minh City from the airport. The taxi service from the airport was a fixed price of 200 000 Vietnamese Dong which is a fair price although the taxi trip from Ho Chi Minh Airport to the city would probably have been cheaper by taxi meter (we did not want to take that chance as this was our first visit to Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Ho Chi Minh City and we had been warned that some taxi company taxi meters could not be trusted. The video footage from this airport ends with us walking out of the Airport and finding the taxi that will drive us into Ho Chi Minh City.

Wiki writes about Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport, Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport (Vietnamese: Sân bay quốc tế Tân Sơn Nhất, Vietnamese: Cảng hàng không quốc tế Tân Sơn Nhất) is the busiest airport in Vietnam with more than 23 million passenger movements per year. As of November 2016, it had a total capacity of only 20 million passengers, which has caused constant congestion and sparked debate for expanding or building a new airport. It was also among the top 50 busiest airports in the world in terms of passengers handled in 2015, serving Ho Chi Minh City as well as the rest of southeastern Vietnam. Its IATA code, SGN, is derived from the city's former name of Saigon. The airport is expected to handle 32 million passengers in 2016...
This footage is filmed inside and outside of Ho Chi Minh City Airport (SGN) called Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport). Ho Chi Minh City is located in Vietnam.

Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
This is my first video of the Ben Thanh Markets here in Ho Chi Minh City.
I'm sure I'll be back there again this year a few more times.
I was there with the family on a Public Holiday and as you will see the markets were pretty empty, which is very unusual.
I have also written about the markets and have photos too, I'll add the link when I put them up onto my site.
There are four different sections in the Ben Thanh Market or Bến Thành Market as it is written locally.
So if you are intending to travel to Ho Chi Minh, make sure you check the market out!
If you want to check out what else I have been up to, you can here....

Vietnam - Saigon - A walking tour through the Colonial Quarter
Vietnam is one of Asia’s most fascinating destinations. Its capital is Hanoi but its biggest city is Ho Chi Minh – otherwise known as Saigon. This sprawling metropolis is a fascinating mix of old and new.
We had ventured to Saigon with Thailand’s premium low cost carrier, Nok Airlines, to commemorate their first flight to Vietnam. On our Boeing 737 800 we were joined by other media and the Nok Airlines team for a discover tour of their newest destination.

Dong Que restaurant, Binh Tan district, HCMC
We had a low-key dinner to celebrate our one year anniversary near the apartment. This place had decent eye candy, and really big oysters. The starter mushroom salad was very good, as was the grilled fish and special hotpot. Joining us for dinner were some fellow aerobics instructors, my wife's sisters, and her aunt and uncle.

Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) - Street market
Nowadays, it’s easy to find a super market in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam). But, street market usually is the first choice when Saigon people want to buy fresh food. I can ride my motorbike through the market and buy food right on the street. So it’s fast and convenient. I can also buy some fresh food that I can’t find them in super market. I have recorded this video when I ride through Ba Hoa market, Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks for watching.
