Taos Ski Valley is a village and alpine ski resort in Taos County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 69 at the 2010 census. Until March 19, 2008, it was one of four ski resorts in America to prohibit snowboarding. The Kachina lift, constructed in 2014, serves the highest elevation of any triple chair in the North American Continent, to a peak elevation of 12,481 feet .The village was originally settled by a group of miners in the 1800s, but in 1955 Ernie and Rhoda Blake founded the area as a ski mountain. The village was incorporated in 1996. In 2013, Taos Ski Valley, Inc., was sold by the founding family to billionaire conservationist Louis Bacon. It has 110 trails with 24% beginner, 25% intermediate and 51% advanced/expert. The Ernie Blake Snowsports School is one of the highest rated ski schools in North America.

I have the best daughter in the world. She's an amazing raft guide in the summer and a ski instructor in the winter. I was on my way back to Texas from the RTR in Arizona. Jesse treated me to a day of skiing at the Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico. It was a GREAT day! I am so blessed. (and I didn't break a hip!) :)

TAOS BLUE

A love song to a town with a mountain that will either call to you or reject you. Taos is not for everyone unless the sacred mountain chooses it to be. I wrote this song many years ago for Michael Hearne with the help of Fuzzy (old friend) and Mentor Williams (Grammy winner, Drift Away). Both deceased, they loved Taos. But I got embarrassed and stored it away until I proposed it to Strangebyrds (Rollinsville, Co.). They had come to Taos to play a gig. Their exceptional artistic musical talent produced a beautiful version of Taos Blue. They are officially co-writers of Taos Blue. It is the only song about this magical town that I know of. Cari Minor and Ray Smith (strangebyrds.com) are award winning singer/songwriters and multi-intrumentalists, crafting songs with a unique Americana sound they call Blue Collar Folk. And not to be forgotten, the compelling voiceover in the intro was done by my friend of many years, Cloudtalker. Thanks to all. . . . . .

Welcome to Pajarito

Located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, and 30 minutes northwest of Santa Fe, Pajarito Mountain offers 41 trails, 6 lifts and two terrain parks, all located on 751 acres on the eastern edge of the Jemez Mountains. Known for its spectacular views of the Rio Grande Valley and the Valles Caldera National Preserve, the ski area was founded and developed in the late 1950s by the Los Alamos Ski Club. The fall line and bump runs are heralded as some of the best in the state. The mountain offers a ski school, restaurant, and ski rental facility. During the summer, Pajarito Mountain is home to an extensive mountain bike trail system with lift served access, and hosts several New Mexico brewers’ festivals throughout the summer. Pajarito is the closest resort to the Albuquerque metro area.
