Travel Russia - Visiting the Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg
Take a tour of Cathedral on Blood Yekaterinburg in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Cathedral on Blood in Yekaterinburg is not a typical Russian Orthodox church.
This was the site of Tsar Nicholas the II's last moments before being killed during the Bolshevik Revolution.
The church was built over what was formerly the Ipatiev house, where the Tsar and his family were kept before the assassinations.
Therefore, the Cathedral is an imperative part of Russia's gruesome political history.
The golden domes of the Cathedral are standard for this architectural style.
The natural allure of the surrounding Ural mountains provide visitors another motive to visit this crucial monument.

American Mormons Buy Russian Dead Souls for Afterlife Polygamy - Russian TV News
Subscribe to Vesti News
It has turned out that MORMON POLYGAMISTS have been buying Russian dead souls since the early 90s. They literally buy them, for 7 cents per 5 names. The rumor has it, 15 to 20 million Russians have become Mormons postmortem. Why do Mormons need that? Zinaida Kurbatova tried to find the answer. Zinaida, good evening! Hello! Looks like a Gogol's story, doesn't it? It does. A short answer is that polygamy is widespread among Mormons. I will explain. Everyone remembers Dead Souls by Nikolai Gogol: Chichikov was planning to get a loan against serfs, purportedly alive, who were actually dead. Later, the fraud was exposed. So, why do American Mormons need Russian dead souls, when the sect's representatives claim not to be interested in money? It turns out that their faith recommends that Mormon men have more than one wife. Even if the woman passed away a long time ago, she could become a Mormon spouse. Roman Silantyev, religious expert: The Mormon elite, who get their own planets after death, constitute about 15% of the congregation. I mean, those who have gone through all the necessary ceremonies. So, the elite intends to solve the problem with polygamy somehow. They couldn't find any other way to do that but to marry the dead. They buy data in archives. Vitaly Semyonov, genealogist: Every church member is obliged to conduct personal and community genealogical research. In short, Mormons took Chichikov's wrong way, and they did it long ago. Since the early 90s, the visitors from Utah have tried to get the personal data of Russians who were born before the October Revolution, and they did that many times. Mormons requested many archives for scanned birth certificates of Russian Empire subjects, in exchange for electronic equipment. In Yekaterinburg, their request was denied. Mormons were told that the relatives of the departed might be against that. What is more, the archive specialists found that the contract was no more than an audacious fraud. Alexander Kapustin, chief archivist: When we read the contract, which we were supposed to sign, we found out that they were going to grant us the equipment only for the time to scan the papers. As soon as the scanning would have finished, they would have taken both data and equipment, and that's it. It's a fact, that Mormons requested all Russian archives back then, but we don't know if all the archives denied the requests. Maybe, some of them finally acquired the equipment and provided the data. Anyhow, Mormons were turned away in Arkhangelsk, too. They requested 7,000 files dating from the 1780s to 1917. Nikolai Shumilov, chief archivist: That insulted the feelings of the followers of the Russian Orthodox faith. They didn't want Mormons to proselytize all their ancestors, going back to 18th century. Russians show great interest in their ancestry, in the history of their families. Some visit archives themselves, others hire specialists, private genealogy experts. Archives are mostly under-funded, they are left to self-sustainment. How can an archive earn money? Exactly, by drawing up genealogical trees. But in this case, archives will have to monopolize this market, keeping both amateurs and professionals away from the files. Vitaly Semyonov, genealogist: That story about malicious Mormons has been around since 2005. It comes up every time when someone demands that certain archives should start working properly, that they should open the access to personal files for everyone, like other Russian archives have done at last. Some say, that Mormons haven't become more active than usual, but regional archives want us to believe they have, for they can deny personal access to files on that ground, saying they doubt you came to work for yourself, and suspect you of working for the Mormons. Since 2002, in Arkhangelsk, visitors have no other choice but to order the files and, at some point they get a printout, but not an original document. Some time ago, the court ruled that, starting from 2020, the Arkhangelsk regional archive must start to operate like all other archives around the country. It's not clear whether they will adapt to the new rules. So, genealogists assume that archives may benefit from Mormon attacks. Zinaida Kurbatova on Mormons and dead souls.

Back in the U.S.S.R.- Vadikavkaz
After the freezing tundra of Siberia and the cold steppes of the Ural’s we arrived in Vladikavkas in Southern Russia on a warm spring evening. Vladikavkaz is only 450 kilometers from the Caspian Sea, where Srila Prabhupada noted in a room conversation that the great sage Kapila Muni had his ashram in ancient times. We enjoyed several days of programs with devotees in the city and mingled with the local population. One highlight was a visit to a Christian monastery in the foothills of the nearby Caucasus mountains. We spoke at length with the head priest there who shared with us the history of the church in that region. He explained that the apostle, Saint Andre ( Andrew ) introduced Christianity in that area not long after after Jesus Christ was crucified. He said at that time the area was inhabited by the aryan race, referring to people of Vedic culture. He mentioned there was no conflict between Saint Andre and the aryans because both believed in one God. We experienced the same harmony at our programs in Vladikavkaz which were attended by people of other faiths, including a prominent Muslim leader.
BUDDHISM in Saint Petersburg, Russia - Буддизм в россии
Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to Insight into the true nature of reality. Buddhist practices like meditation are means of changing yourself in order to develop the qualities of awareness, kindness, and wisdom.
Because Buddhism does not include the idea of worshipping a creator god, some people do not see it as a religion in the normal, Western sense. The basic tenets of Buddhist teaching are straightforward and practical: nothing is fixed or permanent; actions have consequences; change is possible. So Buddhism addresses itself to all people irrespective of race, nationality, caste, sexuality, or gender. It teaches practical methods which enable people to realise and use its teachings in order to transform their experience, to be fully responsible for their lives.

Back to The Motherland ( russia ) ???????? - St. Petersburg with Indradyumna Swami
Our last stop in Russia was in St. Petersburg, the cultural capitol of the country. Spring had come to Russia, making a beautiful backdrop for the numerous programs we held in several halls in the city. Our visit was a wonderful conclusion to our two-week journey through the country. It also marked my 30th year anniversary of preaching in Russia. I am grateful to the government for granting me a visa each and every year through 3 decades.

They all (the Czar family) should be buried, only after that we can say that the civil war is over in Russia, which is very important for the country. I want to stress that more important than the formal legal procedures is the moral sense, which must emerge and become sharp. We must say to each other - yes, we committed a terrible crime, but we repent and we draw a line (under it).

LEAD IN:
The mysterious history of the Romanovs, the Russian royal family, seemed to end in 1998, when the remains of Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra and their three daughters were laid to rest with state honours in Saint Petersburg.
In 1918 the whole family was shot dead in a basement in Yekaterinburg.
But just a few days ahead of the 90th anniversary of the royal family massacre, the question of authenticity and rehabilitation of the Czar's family is once again in the spotlight.
STORYLINE:
The funeral service for Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra and their three daughters was held in St. Catherine Chapel in the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, where all other Russian Emperors since Peter the Great lie.
Nicholas II abdicated after the Bolsheviks came to power in 1917. The Czar, his wife, their son and four daughters were detained.

Russian YouTuber Facing Five Years in Jail for Playing Pokémon Go in Church
Russian YouTuber and vlogger Ruslan Sokolovsky filmed himself playing Pokemon Go in the Church of All Saints in Yekaterinburg, Russia and was arrested shortly after in his home when investigators watched the video and determined that Sokolovsky was in violation of the law.
Sokolovsky created the video in protest when he heard on the news that there was a law prohibiting people from playing Pokemon Go in temples and places of worship.
Sokolovsky faces up to 5 years in jail and is charged with 'incitement of hatred and offending religious sensibilities'. Police took several pieces of evidence from Sokolovsky's home, and the investigation is ongoing.
See the video here. Whether or not you think the kid should do time in jail, no doubt the video is offensive for those who are religious in Russia.

24 HOURS WITH REMOTE SIBERIAN TRIBE in Buryatia, Russia
We've finally made it to Siberia on the Trans-Siberian Railway!
Our first adventure was arriving in Ulan-Ude, near Lake Baikal, and driving hundreds of kilometres into the wilderness to meet a remote Siberian tribe in Buryatia, Russia.
Buryatia is one of Russia's most unique republics. It has a mongol heritage, and the people who live here are descendants of the Golden Horde. The landscape is called The Steppe, a vast sweeping grassland that covers central Asia. Tribes who live here have traditionally been nomadic, making small camps like the one we stay in. This is our documentary of 24 hours with this tribe.
This experience put us outside our comfort zones. We ate some interesting Russian food like raw sheep liver, rode horses, wrestled, and had the time of our lives. While this experience isn't for everyone, it's definitely for me. This was one of my favourite days on the Trans-Siberian Railway. The people we met in this small village made it especially memorable. You can tell by their faces, that they are kind and generous. We felt right at home in this remote part of Russia.

New Jerusalem monastery, Moscow region, Russia
This is not the first attempt to transfer the image of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, associated with shrines, on the territory of Russia. Among the monuments, which could reflect the influence of the Palestinian prototype, researchers call the temple of the Intercession on the Moat and the project Holy of Holies in the Moscow Kremlin (the latter, conceived by Boris Godunov, has not been implemented. It remains open and the question that could serve as a model for the Holy of Holies of this project-the old Testament Temple of Solomon or the Church of the Holy Sepulchre)
The lands on which the new monastery was supposed to be located were in the possession of the fiefdoms, and the Patriarch obtained from Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich a special right to acquire land holdings. Prior to the creation of the monastery, all land acquisitions were made on the Valdai Iversky monastery.former lands of boyar Vasily Sheremetev, Prince Alexei Trubetskoy, Stolnik Roman Boborykin joined the territory of the future monastery. The monastery buildings were built on the lands of the village of Redkino, bought from the deacon Lukyan.
