This coastal gem offers many great attractions, including Marjan Park, Diocletian's Palace, and the picturesque Riva waterfront of Old Split. It’s also an ideal spot for island-hopping to hotspots including Brac, Hvar, and the often-overlooked Solta. Split is the main transport hub for Croatia - the best jumping off point when planning to visit the many beautiful islands in the Adriatic Sea.
You can take a bus or taxi from the Airport to the Split Port (the bus is more economical but involves a bit of waiting while it fills up before leaving).
Split Old Town is easy to access from the Port and there are some really stunning streets that one can explore in the Old Town. We had a couple of hours to explore the Old Town before getting our ferry to the island of Hvar.
Things you would like to explore if you are short of time:
The Riva: This is the main Waterfront of Split, and it is the first thing you will see as you approach the Old Town. Split's waterfront runs the length of the Old Town area.
It is one of the most attractive and interesting public places in the city of Split. It stands in front of the Diocletian's Palace, which is another stunning place to explore.
Views from the Riva across the Split harbor are simply magnificent. So when you are in Split take a walk across the Riva, and if you have time, do enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
Alleyways of Split Old Town:
Old Town in Split is a jumble of little streets and cobblestone lanes. You will love to get lost around these lanes and explore hidden nooks and crannies filled with history and charm.
The Diocletian Palace:
The Old Town of Split resides within the walls of this Roman Palace. This palace is one of the most well-preserved and impressive monuments of Roman Architecture still existing in the world. It was built in the 4th century from White stone transported from the island of Brâc. The old city is a UNESCO Heritage site, and is also famous as a setting for the popular series 'Game of Thrones'.
Terrace Vidilica : Restaurant Teraca Vidilica has one of the best locations in town due to its unique location that overlooks the entire city. Located on Marijan Hill, this place is only a 10- min walk from the center of town. You can easily visit this place even if you are short of time.

Booze on the beach...but only for hotel guests!
You can now drink booze on St Pete Beach but only if youre staying in a beachfront hotel! The city of St Pete Beach passed new rules Tuesday night allowing alcohol to be drank in hotel cabanas. Some local residents challenged the new rules because only hotel guests will be able to partake.
