Mahal na Bihen ng Pontmain ( Our Lady of Pontmain)
Noong panahong iyon, ang Pontmain ay isang nayon sa Pransiya na nanganganib sa pananakop ng Hukbong Aleman dahil sa “Digmaan ng Le Mans”.
Noong gabi ng ika-17 ng Enero 1871, si Heneral von Schmidt, Kumander ng Puwersang Pruso, ay nagsabi kay Monsignor Fillion, Obispo ng diyosesis na ang hukbo ay nasa Laval nunit tumigil ang pagsulong nito ganap na alas singko y medya ng umaga, parehong oras kung kelan naganap ang aparisyon sa Pontmain, ilang milya lamang ang layo. Here is the video of the Notre Dame Basilica in Pontmain which I visited a short while ago.
This is the first time that I have been to Pontmain, in the Mayenne department of France, a special place where Our Lady visited children in 1871 and I found it very tranquil and spiritual, not being over commercialized, like some religious places can be.

Dans la nuit du 17 janvier 1871, la neige couvre le village. Deux jeunes garçons, Eugène (12 ans) et Joseph Barbedette (10 ans), aident leur père à piler les ajoncs dans leur grange. Eugène sort de la grange pour « voir le temps ». C'est alors qu'il déclare avoir aperçu au-dessus de la maison d'en face une « belle dame » à la robe parsemée d'étoiles, qui le regarde en souriant, les mains tendues.
À ses cris, les villageois accourent et d'autres enfants déclarent voir la « belle dame ». Ils assurent qu'un ovale bleu avec quatre bougies éteintes est venu entourer la dame. L'Abbé Guérin, curé du village, organise une veillée de prière autour des enfants.
Pendant que l'assistance récite le chapelet et le Magnificat, les enfants disent qu'une banderole se déroule entre l'ovale et le toit de la maison, où s'inscrivent lettre après lettre le message de la « Dame » : « Mais priez mes enfants, Dieu vous exaucera en peu de temps. Mon Fils se laisse toucher ».
Alors que l'assistance prie, les enfants deviennent soudain tristes. Ils expliquent que le visage de la vierge est devenu triste aussi, et qu'une grande croix rouge portant Jésus sanglant est apparue devant elle. Au sommet de la croix, une pancarte blanche porte les mots « Jésus-Christ ». Les enfants expliquent que la dame prend dans ses mains le crucifix et le leur présente, tandis qu'une étoile allume une à une les quatre bougies jusqu'alors éteintes du nimbe.
À la suite de cela, et alors que le curé fait chanter le cantique Ave Maris Stella, les enfants décrivent le crucifix qui disparaît, la vierge qui reprend son attitude initiale, les bras tendus vers eux, une petite croix blanche surmontant chaque épaule, et la scène qui se recouvre peu d'un voile blanc avant de disparaître. « Tout est fini », disent-ils enfin.
Les villageois rentrent alors chez eux. Le 26 janvier, l'armistice est signé avec la Prusse (dont le roi a été proclamé empereur allemand). Les habitants de Pontmain et des alentours y voient une grâce de l'apparition, d'autant plus que les Prussiens ne sont pas entrés à Laval. Les pèlerins affluent alors à Pontmain.

Pontmain France - Dundalk Pilgrims Visit September 2010
The Rosary Centre Dundalk visits Pontmain France 2010
During the Franco Prussian War, when the German army was about to over-run the French village of Pontmain, Our Lady appeared in the sky to six children. She gave them a message of hope, “But pray my children” God will hear you in a short time. My Son permits Himself to be moved. Pontmain was saved and within ten days a peace agreement was signed and the bloodshed was over.
