Historic Sipsey And Empire Coal Mines
The Sipsey and Empire Coal Mines located in Eastern Walker County, Alabama were owned and operated by the Debardeleben Coal Corporation out of Birmingham. These two coal mines were among several operated in Walker County by Debardeleben with others being located at Hull, Cordova, Corona and Carbon Hill. The Sipsey Coal Mines located along the banks of the Sipsey Fork next to the Black Warrior River were first Developed around 1912. with the Empire Coal Mines first being developed around 1904 by the Empire Coal Company and later in 1922 merging with Debardeleben Coal Corporation. Both the Sipsey and Empire Coal Mines were company owned and operated mining towns. Rail service to Empire and later to Sipsey was originally handled by the Kansas City, Memphis & Birmingham Railroad with a branch line constructed from Dora through Sumiton onto Empire and over across the river to Sipsey. A few years later the KCM&B merged with the St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad. In originally constructing the line from Empire to Sipsey the KCM&B built a solid concrete and steel bridge over the Black Warrior River to connect with the Sipsey Coal Mines. This bridge was called Dillworth. This rail line was named the Empire Branch. In the 1930's a tramway bridge was constructed over the Sipsey Fork section of the river to connect with the new Clark Hollow Coal Mines that were located just above Sipsey.
The Empire Coal Mines consisted of several mine sites as well as Sipsey and the coal washing plant was situated at Empire. All coal from the Sipsey, Hull and Empire mines were sent here
before being shipped via the Frisco or by waiting coal river barges on the river. Information on when coal mining ceased at Sipsey and Clark Hollow is sketchy but possibly the early 1950's.
The Empire Coal Mines continued to operate with strip mining taking over sometime in the 1950's. By 1970 all coal mining operations ceased at Empire and years later Frisco abandoned the 'Empire Branch Line'. Today a section of Frisco's Empire branch line has been turned into a walking and biking trail from Dora to Sumiton and the old Dillworth bridge remains having been
preserved and turned into a one lane bridge.

Birmingham Municipal Bank - Brum's Hidden Spaces
Birmingham Municipal Bank was launched by the local authority in 1916 to enable ordinary people to save their wages and to support the war effort. It was placed on a statutory footing in 1919 and the new headquarters building was opened in 1933. Designed by Thomas Cecil Howitt, the architect of Baskerville House, which faces the bank on Centenary Square. The bank was subsumed into the TSB in 1976 and the headquarters building was closed in 1996. Still awaiting redevelopment, Birmingham Municipal Bank is now used for arts events and as a filming location.
This film shows an art exhibition by Shun Ito, hosted in the bank as part of the International Dance Festival Birmingham
The bank is shown in context on Broad Street Birmingham and the inside tour includes the very striking Art Deco bank vault. Archive images are courtesy - please visit this website for a comprehensive history of the bank.
The film is accompanied by Al Bowlly singing ‘Oceans of Time’, recorded the year the bank headquarters was opened in 1933.

Abandoned Deadly Race Track! (FOUND RACE CAR)
Abandoned Race Track!
This track is a half-mile oval with a quarter-mile oval in its infield, was one of the premier speedways in the Midwest in the early 20th century. It was a proving ground for some of the top American race drivers. Eight veterans went on to win the Indianapolis 500, including one of Indy's all-time greats, Wilbur Shaw, who won the 500 in 1937, 1939 and 1940.
The track closed in 1960 after one more in a long line of horrific accidents. Nature has been reclaiming the grounds ever since. Sycamore trees stand 40 feet tall in the middle of the first turn. Honeysuckle grows thick in what once was the pits.
[2018 edit]The grounds were open to the public in 2016 but are closed now. It is now trespassing to enter these grounds and I strongly suggest not to. Pull over and read their historic sign on your way and view from the road. I would also like to note that I strongly CONDEM vandalism of any kind and only pulled over to take pictures and did not touch anything aside from the ground I waled on.

Driving Downtown - Cleveland 4K - USA
Driving Downtown Streets - Euclid Avenue - Cleveland Ohio USA - Episode 68
Starting Point: .
Euclid Avenue is a major street in Cleveland, Ohio. It received nationwide attention from the 1860s to the 1920s for its beauty and wealth, including a string of mansions that came to be known as Millionaires' Row. There are several theaters, banks, and churches along Euclid, as well as Cleveland's oldest extant building, the Dunham Tavern. A large reconstruction project, which brought a bus rapid transit line to the street, was completed in 2008.
The street passes Playhouse Square, the University Circle, Cleveland State University, the Cleveland Clinic, Severance Hall, Tifereth Israel (The Temple), Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center. The HealthLine bus rapid transit line runs in designated bus lanes in the median of Euclid Avenue from Public Square to Louis Stokes Station at Windermere in East Cleveland.
Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, approximately 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of the Pennsylvania border. It was founded in 1796 near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location on the lake shore, as well as being connected to numerous canals and railroad lines. Cleveland's economy has diversified sectors that include manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, and biomedical. Cleveland is also home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Tourism
Five miles (8.0 km) east of downtown Cleveland is University Circle, a 550-acre (2.2 km2) concentration of cultural, educational, and medical institutions, including the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals, Severance Hall, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Western Reserve Historical Society. A 2011 study by Walk Score ranked Cleveland 17th most walkable of fifty largest U.S. cities. Cleveland is home to the I. M. Pei-designed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, located on the Lake Erie waterfront at North Coast Harbor downtown. Neighboring attractions include Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Great Lakes Science Center, the Steamship Mather Museum, and the USS Cod, a World War II submarine. Cleveland has an attraction for visitors and fans of A Christmas Story: A Christmas Story House and Museum to see props, costumes, rooms, photos and other materials related to the Jean Shepherd film. Cleveland is home to many festivals throughout the year. Cultural festivals such as the annual Feast of the Assumption in the Little Italy neighborhood, the Harvest Festival in the Slavic Village neighborhood, and the more recent Cleveland Asian Festival in the Asia Town neighborhood are popular events. Vendors at the West Side Market in Ohio City offer many different ethnic foods for sale. Cleveland hosts an annual parade on Saint Patrick's Day that brings hundreds of thousands to the streets of downtown.
Fashion Week Cleveland, the city's annual fashion event, is the third-largest fashion show of its kind in the United States. In addition to the cultural festivals, Cleveland hosted the CMJ Rock Hall Music Fest, which featured national and local acts, including both established artists and up-and-coming acts, but the festival was discontinued in 2007 due to financial and manpower costs to the Rock Hall. The annual Ingenuity Fest, Notacon and TEDxCLE conference focus on the combination of art and technology. The Cleveland International Film Festival has been held annually since 1977, and it drew a record 66,476 people in March 2009. Cleveland also hosts an annual holiday display lighting and celebration, dubbed Winterfest, which is held downtown at the city's historic hub, Public Square.
Cleveland also has the Jack Cleveland Casino. Phase I opened on May 14, 2012, on Public Square, in the historic former Higbee's Building at Tower City Center. Phase II will open along the bend of the Cuyahoga River behind Tower City Center.
The new Greater Cleveland Aquarium is on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River near Downtown.

Historic Pratt Coal Mines
The Pratt Coal Mines date back to the 1870's when the area around what is now known as Pratt City (Named After Daniel Pratt) was first discovered to have a rich coal seam by Truman Aldrich. Shortly after William 'Billly' Gould sunk the first shaft to reach the coal seam in 1878. Working in partnership with businessman Henry Debardeleben they formed the Pratt Coal & Coke Company. The mines and company were named after Debardeleben's father in law (Principal Financier) Daniel Pratt. A railroad was shortly afterword constructed to reach the blast furnaces in nearby Birmingham. More coal mines were constructed during the following years consisting of slope and shaft mines. As demand for coal grew in the 1880's convicts
were leased from the state to fill a growing shortage of skilled labor. Prisons were constructed
on site at many of the mines. Living conditions at these prisons were in most cases horrendous with many deaths occurring in the mines on an almost daily basis. In 1886 the Tennessee Coal Iron & Railroad Company purchased the Pratt Coal & Coke Company and continued to expand mining operations and opening new coal mines along the Pratt and Mary Lee Coal Seams. TCI made attempts to create better living conditions and safety for both the convicts and 'free' miners and their families as well. By 1907 United States Steel had now purchased TCI as an independent division and started creating model mining communities and creating new safety standards and more efficient mining operations. By 1914 TCI did away with convict leasing at all mines they owned. The Pratt Coal Mine Division of TCI during its many years of operations had coal mines that stretched all around Pratt City to Ensley, Wylam
and up to and south of Five Mile Creek. As many as 18 mines at one point were in operation. The Birmingham Southern Railroad (Division Of TCI & U.S Steel) had rail lines to every Pratt Coal Mine and handled transportation of coal & coke to the nearby Ensley Blast furnaces.
By the early to late 1950's virtually all of these mines were shut down, mines sealed off and
remaining structures torn down. There were some structures still standing around the Pratt City area but the tornado outbreak in April 2011 destroyed the rest. These mines were a main source for Birmingham's growth in those early years to become an industrial city.
