24 trapped in flooded coal mine in N. China
Twenty-four people remain trapped after water flooded a coal mine in northern China. On Sunday afternoon, a total of 247 people were working in the Jiangjiawan coal mine in Datong City in Shanxi Province when the mine was flooded with water. 223 people have since been evacuated.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang Inspects Shanxi Province
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang urged efforts to speed up structural reforms and promote industrial upgrading during his two-day inspection tour of Taiyuan city, north China's Shanxi Province, which ended Tuesday.
He inspected the Taiyuan Iron and Steel（Group）Co., Ltd, the world's largest stainless steel producer.
The Premier said, affected by the excessive production capacity and shrinking demand, the steel industry is confronted with great difficulties. So the enterprise should currently focus on cutting production capacity, promoting upgrading and structural adjustment so as to produce more quality products and increase its productivity.
During his inspection of the Guandi Coal Mine of the Xishan Coal Electricity Group Co., Ltd, Li took the tramcar down the shaft hundreds of meters deep. He talked to miners and hailed them as people who bring light to the society.
He urged the enterprise to cut its production, make innovation and create new posts for surplus labor as the mining industry currently suffers from serious overcapacity and a sharp decline in coal price.
The government should take various measures to create a favorable environment, helping the mining sector out of trouble, said Li.
He also visited the Sanhesheng Energy-Efficient Technology Services Company in the Taiyuan branch under the Tsinghua Science Park, which has gathered more than 200 high-tech enterprises.
The Premier encouraged innovators to make exploration and use their ideas to create new industries.
In his inspection tour of the Xiaobeiguan shanty town in the Xinghualing District, which has been listed in the housing renovation plan this year, the Premier pledged that the government will continue the home-reconstruction progress, letting the residents in shanty towns move to the new housings as early as possible.
Li visited the Taiyuan Jinshang Museum, where he encouraged enterprises to abandon conservative thinking and embark on an innovative path. More on:

Explosions reported in north China city of Taiyuan
Explosions happened Wednesday morning at around 7:40 AM, Beijing time, in front the provincial Party Committee office building in Taiyuan, the capital city of north China's Shanxi province. Police say one person was injured, and two vehicles were damaged. Firefighters and police have rushed to the site, and the area has been cordoned off. Investigation into the accident is underway.
Coal Mine Landslide Shanxi
Four more bodies were retrieved as of Thursday afternoon following a landslide at an open-pit coal mine in north China's Shanxi Province on August 11, according to the front-line relief headquarters. The accident occurred around 15:00 on August 11 at Lyuxin coal mine in Heshun County, but the coal mine company denied the casualties until the head of the company turned himself in to police on Tuesday, confessing that about 10 people were buried in the accident. At least one person remains missing, but the exact number of people buried under the debris is not yet known. A total of 13 excavators and 33 emergency vehicles continue to clear away stones and drain water from the bottom of the pit, according to relief headquarters. Rescue workers found the landslide volume was much larger than the previously estimated 200,000 cubic meters. The county's coal administration head Zhang Ruiqing has been removed from his post. Rescue work and further investigation are under way. Lyuxin coal mine, operating under the Shanxi Coal Transportation and Sales Group Co., Ltd., has an annual coal capacity of two million tons.
