Antibes France
In 15 minutes the train will whisk you to the beautiful coastal town of Antibes, which can easily be explored in a couple of hours and still leave time to get back to Nice for dinner.
Antibes was once a fortified village, like most of the other old towns in the south of France, with the original wall running along the shore. As you walk to the Old Town you will notice an ancient fort in the harbor. It looks like it is on an island but actually is on a peninsula. Antibes seems like it is an island because it is on a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides.
Walk straight out of the train station two blocks on Avenue de la Libération to the marina and continue along Avenue de Verdun past the marina to a gate in the city wall that will lead you into the Old Town, a small area just several hundred yards long and wide but riddled with dozens of tiny lanes.
The walk takes about 20 minutes... turn left to Rue Aubernon which will lead you into the heart of the old section and quickly to Cours Massena, the main food market.
There is a large Picasso Museum nearby in the Grimaldi Palace where the artist had a studio that is now incorporated into the museum. Antibes was famous as a home for artists in the 20th century, Picasso in particular, who lived here in 1946 and spent most of his later life elsewhere in Provence. He donated 22 of his paintings to the museum, which also has works by other important artists of the modern movement.
A square bell tower from the 12th century looms over the small square with the Church of the Immaculate Conception, built on the site of an ancient Greek temple. Notice the arches in several side alleys linking the buildings together to help support each other, as if holding hands.
If you walk straight a few blocks, you will find a peaceful residential neighborhood of narrow pedestrian alleys where you might get a little lost. It's fun to get off the beaten track now and then to see how people live in their residential areas -- just a couple of narrow lanes lined with lush plants that provide a little breather before plunging into the commercial district.
Before we go into the commercial shopping district let's have a look at this residential area. This is a charming neighborhood very quiet and it's a pedestrian zone, even for the houses so these people want to get to their house.
After wandering through this residential maze, find your way out to Rue des Revennes, which becomes Rue James Close, the most charming shopping lane in town. This narrow pedestrian route is lined with boutiques and restaurants that are so cute you just might want to drop anchor at a sidewalk cafe and sample the local grinds, such as socca, similar to pizza with a thick crust.
These few blocks are some of the sweetest in the entire Riviera, and this very old shopping street is a forerunner of today's modern shopping malls. These streets have always been too narrow for cars, so it's been a pedestrian zone from the beginning.
Rue James Close will lead to the main pedestrian shopping street of town, Rue de la Republique, another fascinating route for walking. It connects Place National to Place General de Gaulle, where you can turn right and walk five blocks along Avenue Robert Soleau back to the train station, and then you are on your way once again, home to Nice for the evening.

The next day I drove to the Mediterranean for about an hour and found Antibes. An ancient city built around the fourth century BCE, it is now a favorite winter resort in France with the largest yacht harbor in the Côte d'Azur region. The pebble beaches seen in Nice and Menton are filled with people who want to enjoy the spring sunshine in the golden sunshine. One who comes up with Antibes. It is Picasso. Seaside walkway If you go along the road, you can see it. Picasso Museum of Art. Grimaldi Castle, a fortress built in ancient Greek times. In 1946, Picasso became a museum of art in this place. As you enter an exhibition room, you can see black and white photographs that show Picasso's work at that time. This black and white picture shows that Picasso worked in a Spartan way. There is nothing but art tools on the floor. And Picasso got a kind of big reflector that you can see in places like the movie scene these days. You can work at night. Here you can see 245 Picasso works, including paintings, prints and sculptures. Picasso, an ancient city of antiquity in the Mediterranean, wanted to capture the sky and the sea in the picture. The reason I say this collection is special and unique is because it is a work inspired directly from the Mediterranean. It is naturalistic. There are fishermen, sea urchin soup and fish. I also have mythical figures like Centaurs and Satiros. Because Picasso came here, he wanted to reconnect the Greek Roman myth with Antibes. Picasso later said that he wanted to keep these works in Antibes and donated them here. That is why the special collection of the Antibes Picasso Museum was created. In his works, he is not pleasant. His humorous expressions seem to tell the time Picasso spent in Antibes.

GET THE PISSALADIERE RECIPE:
Hello!
Pissaladiere is a traditional recipe from the South of France, sold in many bakeries as a starter or snack. It is a pizza base topped by Mediterranean caramelized onions, anchovies and olives.
GET THE WRITTEN RECIPE:
Ingredients Dough
250 ml water
1 tbsp olive oil
450 gr flour
1.5 tsp salt & pepper
1 tsp caster sugar
1 package bread Yeast
Topping
1 kg onions
200 gr anchovies stored in salt
100 gr black olives
3 cloves clove of garlic
olive oil
Instructions
1. Pour the ingredients into the machine and set the program for fresh dough, number 13 on the Kenwood. NB: when using the bread machine the ingredients should be placed in the exact order as listed above, liquids first.
2. For best result, let the dough rest in the fridge overnight, well floured and wrapped in a plastic bag, so it does not crawl all over the fridge.
3. Peal the onions and cut them very finely
4. Wash, clean and debone the anchovies filet. Leaves some anchovies aside for the topping decoration.
5. In a large frying pan fry the garlic cloves crushed and the anchovy’s filets. The anchovies will melt into a cream.
6. Put in the onion and stir-fry over medium heat until they become translucent.
7. Then lower the heat and simmer for a good 30 minutes. Add water if too dry.
8. Normally you should not need to add any salt as the anchovies are already very salty.
To make Pissaladiere pizzette
9. Roll the dough flat and cut it into small circles
10. Let them rest few minutes while the oven heats up at 200 C. If you have a pizza stone put it in the oven so they will be hot.
11. Put the circles on the pizza stone and put a spoon of the onion mix and half olive with a small piece of anchovies. I made some with only the onions to add some variety.
12. Cook for 10 minutes and continue with the rest of the batch. They can be served at room temperature but it is best to eat them the same day.
For the large pissaladiere
13. Roll the dough and lay it on the hot pizza stone
14. Top it with caramelized onions, anchovies filets and unpitted olives
15. Cook in a hot oven at 200C / 400 F for 10 minutes

Cannes & Antibes
Cannes is one of the most legendary of towns along the Riviera, famous for the International Film Festival held in May and home to several super-deluxe luxury hotels. But surprisingly, the main shopping area and old section are down-to-earth, with normal prices and a friendly atmosphere. The nearby beautiful coastal town of Antibes can easily be explored in a couple of hours. Antibes was once a fortified village, like most of the other old towns in the south of France, and has an ancient fort in the harbor with the original wall running along the shore. After wandering through the old pedestrian section, find your way out to Rue des Revennes, which becomes Rue James Close, the most charming shopping lane in town.

The Streets of Antibes, France: Exploring the French Riviera
We decided to explore the streets of Antibes, a quaint town in the French Riviera, France, as quick stop over on our way to Nice.
Admittedly we all wished for more hang time as its such a beautiful town. Fresh bread, salty French butter and a little hydration with water (and Coke Cola) was the perfect way to spend an afternoon for a beach picnic. :)
Luckily we did have time for the Musée Picasso.

The Wingers Guide
I've experienced amazing trips in my life, trips with family and friends that I never want to forget. Unfortunately, that's what happens over time, you forget, and only the strongest memories remain. That's precisely why I started this page, for myself and because I never want to forget.
Maybe there's someone out there who shares my interests and dreams, and who through my stories can take that journey they've only talked about for so long.
My name is Charlie, I was born in 1985, and you usually see me with a big smile on my face. Food and laughter extend my life, and I would do just about anything for my friends and family.
