A day trip to Strasbourg from Paris is really easy - just hop the high speed train out of Paris and you'll be in the Strasbourg Christmas Market in 2.5hrs (assuming it's still Christmas time).
My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much.

FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? On and off for over two years.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a Draw My Life video that explains a lot here:
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself:
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here:
Do you speak French? - Oui.
Do you make money off YouTube? - Ha, sorta. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos:
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game):
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one:
And here's the French wishlist:

Vlog#16: Part 2 - The Staggeringly Stunning Strasbourg(Strasbourg, France)
I am an aspiring YouTuber based in the Netherlands. I look forward to taking you along on my little journeys and experiences!
A few weeks ago I visited Strasbourg! Thanks to medieval and contemporary charms it engulfed me in its quaint splendor and has potentially become one of my favourite cities.
On Day 2, we continued to stroll around the city centre and were dwarfed by the majestic buildings in the German Quarter. A little walk away, the scene hanged dramatically with cozy by lanes with pink and orange hues following suite.

Christabelle travels to Strasbourg, France
A day in Strasbourg, savoring the feeling of traveling alone. No plans; no strict itinerary to follow. Walking at my own pace, stopping at anything that piques my interest and enjoying every minute of getting lost and having to find my path again.
This is just a glimpse of my 8-hour adventure in Strasbourg, a small city where the big Notre Dame Cathedral resides. I took 330 steps up the cathedral's winding stairs to get a panoramic view of the village. I was in awe of the its majestic interiors. My view of the lovely houses and canals of Petite France, a Unesco World Heritage Site, made my lunch extraordinary. I spent a couple of minutes sitting in front of a musician, appreciating this genius showcasing his talent on the streets.
I almost missed my train to Luxembourg but I knew this was another adventure and I couldn’t help but smile during the train ride.

Strasbourg and Lyon: Excursions
So these past two Saturdays, our class took two day long excursions to Strasbourg and Lyon, and here's the vlog to detail them! To get there, we took the TGV, one of the fastest trains in the world. Plus, on the way to Lyon, we made new friends! We ended up sitting next to some little kids, and by the time the train ride had ended, we were all playing card games and laughing together. However, a sad reality check: their level of french is probably just as good, if not better, than ours.
Strasbourg is an absolutely beautiful village located on the German border. In my opinion, it gets its charm for the less tourist-y atmosphere and the gorgeous buildings that make the city look like a French town in some places and a quaint German village in others. A few of us even climbed to the top of Notre Dame de Strasbourg for an incredible view of the surrounding area. We saw mountains on the horizon and were even able to see out to Germany!
Lyon, on the other hand, provided a different experience. Here, we saw the city's Basillica, located on a high hill that we then had the utmost pleasure of walking all the way down (don't worry, we took the tram up). More importantly, Lyon is known for being the city of food, and it did not disappoint in this area. For my lunch/dinner, I had a goat cheese salad, and there was something different, something unique, that made it absolutely delicious. Plus, we visited a place called Les Halles, which is an indoor market with all sorts of food imaginable. We tried some traditional Lyonnaise food, which included some sweets known as pralines. Pralines are basically almonds coated in a sweet, red, sugary layer, and they are absolutely delicious.
With our Lyon trip complete, that wraps up our excursions for this study abroad. I still have 3 weeks left, but it'll be nice to have some weekends to myself. Still, I loved seeing the country beyond Paris, and I would recommend the same for anyone who visits France.
Colmar by Street Train
We get in a street train to see Colmar. This is part ten of the Alsace series.
Strasbourg | France
In 1262, Strasbourg became a free city of the Germanic Holy Roman Empire. Strasbourg returned to France after WWI. The war had not notably damaged the city and between the two wars , Strasbourg continued to prosper. But after the german invasion of Poland in September 1939, the entire city was evacuated. With the fall of France in June 1940, alsace was annexed to Germany. After liberation in 1944, Alsace was returned to France and Strasbourg became the symbol of reconcialiation betwen France & Germany.
Day 2 Strasbourg to Plaine
After spending the night in Paris it was time to collect our bikes from the Eurostar terminal and cycle the short distance from Gare du Nord to Gare du l'est where we would finish our journey to our start point for the ride through France, over the Alps and into Italy by catching a train to Strasbourg.
Once in Strasbourg we met up with Genevieve, a friend from Colombia, who gave us a tour of the city as this is where she went to school. Then it was off to her parents house in the village of Plaine where we were staying the night.
That evening we went to a blues and jazz gig at a spectacular old villa in the middle of the forest. A great end to our first day on the bike.

Luxembourg City by the tourist train Pétrusse Express
The history of the former Gibraltar of the North is still alive while driving past the historical sites of the old Fortress. The tourist train Pétrusse Express is operating since 1987. The departure and arrival is at Montée de Clausen (near the Bock Casemates). The commentary is available in 4 languages (English, German, French, Luxembourgish) and the tour takes approximately 50 minutes.
