Fort Worth 4K - Driving Downtown - Texas, USA
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the U.S. state of Texas and the 13th-largest city in the United States. It is the county seat of Tarrant County, covering nearly 350 square miles (910 km2) into three other counties: Denton, Parker, and Wise. According to the 2018 census estimates, Fort Worth's population is 895,008. Fort Worth is the second-largest city in the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area, which is the 4th most populous metropolitan area in the United States.
The city of Fort Worth was established in 1849 as an army outpost on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. Fort Worth has historically been a center of the longhorn cattle trade. It still embraces its Western heritage and traditional architecture and design. USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) is the first ship of the United States Navy named after the city.
Fort Worth is home to the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and several world-class museums designed by internationally known contemporary architects. The Kimbell Art Museum, considered to have one of the best art collections in Texas, is housed in what is widely regarded as one of the outstanding architectural achievements of the modern era. The museum was designed by the American architect Louis Kahn, with an addition designed by world-renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano opening November 2013. Also of note is the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, designed by Tadao Ando. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art, designed by Philip Johnson, houses one of the world's most extensive collections of American art. The Sid Richardson Museum, redesigned by David M. Schwarz, has one of the most focused collections of Western art in the U.S., emphasizing Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, designed by famed architect Ricardo Legorreta of Mexico, engages the diverse Fort Worth community through creative, vibrant programs and exhibits.
The city is stimulated by several university communities: Texas Christian University, Texas Wesleyan, University of North Texas Health Science Center, and Texas A&M University School of Law, and many multinational corporations, including Bell Helicopter, Lockheed Martin, American Airlines, BNSF Railway, Pier 1 Imports, XTO Energy (relocated to Houston in 2017) RadioShack.

Fort Richardson, the Trailblazer & Lavaca Lessons
Fort Richardson State Park
History is the highlight at Fort Richardson, where buildings of this North Texas frontier fort continue to loom large. But even if today’s travelers aren’t settling the West, many still come to pitch tents and blaze trails.
The Trailblazer
We meet a trail building legend in El Paso. The Franklin Mountain range is the largest sustained mountain range in Texas, and it has some of the best mountain biking trails in the state. We’ll meet the man that has built many of those trails, and he’s doing it at the spry age of seventy nine.
Lavaca Bay, The $130,000,000 Clean Up
In the 1980’s, fishing in Lavaca Bay was all but closed when deadly levels of contamination were found in the surrounding waters. Today, over twenty years and a hundred million dollars later, the clean-up is almost complete. We’ll tell you how government agencies and private industry set aside their differences …all for the good of the bay.

“THE ART AND SCIENCE OF URBAN DESIGN
IS TO DESIGN STREETS AND PUBLIC SPACES TO MAXIMIZE PRIVATE USE OF THE LAND.”
The Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex is the second fastest-growing metro in the nation. This is nothing new, as Dallas has, along with Texas' other Big 4 metros, consistently been among the nation's 10 fastest-growing major metros for years. But these figures are still just numbers on a page. What does the growth look like in real life? Recently, I spent a day driving through the metroplex's northern portion, finding it to be endless and explosive. Two of the nation's 15 fastest-growing cities of 50,000 or more are the northern Dallas suburbs of Frisco and McKinney. Other examples to the north include Plano, Denton, Garland, Carrollton, Richardson, and Allen, all of which have grown by at least 20,000 people since 2000, and many of them by far more. The visible signs of this growth become evident when driving north from downtown along U.S. Route 75. There are edge cities--a term used to describe small peripheral clusters of glassy skyscrapers--sprouting up in several neighborhoods and suburbs, including in Richardson, where this concentration has surpassed the city's traditional downtown area. Primary north-side arterial routes, including along both the highways, and key local roads, feature strip malls for mile after mile, as far as the eye can see, including indoor shopping, auto dealerships, chain restaurants, and the like. But this hasn't prevented some of the historic downtowns, such as in Plano and Denton, from turning back into viable night-and-day commercial centers.

The Most Amazing Secret Car Collection In America
Christiansburg, VA is a town of about 20,000 people, and even if you spent all day walking around the town, I don’t think your take-away from the town would be “Hey, I bet this place has one of the largest collections of JDM cars in America and all sorts of other delightful automotive treasures.” But you’d be wrong. So very, wonderfully wrong.

Patched CNW and SP Units on UP Manifest in Dallas, TX!!!
WATCH IN HD!!!!!!
How often do you see an ex SP and ex CNW on one train? This was a really lucky catch as I was waiting for Amtrak 822. It was an Eastbound manifest train with lots of fallen flag railroad's box cars scattered throughout. Watch the whole video because it is packed with old railroad relics. At 4:30 an autorack car comes on the screen with a neon green note saying something along the lines of, do not use for freight transport. Send to manufacturer to fix problems on car. Basically, the train car was broken somehow. The train moving behind the manifest is a DGNO switching in the yard. At around 1:20 my camera stopped filming but I started it back up within a second. Thanks for watching!
The engines were:

GM Heritage Museum
This video is a quick walk through and glimpse in HD of the GM Heritage Museum (no narration). This is a great collection of GM cars and trucks along with other GM automotive history. The museum is located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. It is not open to the individual public. I got a special invite to attend a two hour showing with the local Oldsmobile Club, so I made the trip from Arizona since I figured I may never get another chance. Date of tour was Oct 1, 2011.
Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort | Silver State Sights Episode 35
The Las Vegas metro area is now home to over 2 million people, and attracts tourists from all over the world, but it all started with one place – known as the birthplace of Las Vegas.
The Old Mormon Fort is located at the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Washington Avenue, a location that 19th century settlers handpicked.
“The Mormon missionaries came here in June of 1855,” said retired park Raymond Richardson. “They are the ones who put up the first structure.”
Richardson says the settlers chose the location because of the creek that ran through.
The grounds have been recreated for the current park, but one part of it, hasn’t changed.
In the center of the re-created grounds stand an adobe building, which as the historical marker out front indicates – is the oldest building in Nevada.
“When you go out onto the ground you are going to see parts of the original structure from 1855, you are also going to see parts of the reconstruction of the fort,” Richardson added.

Wasted in the USA: Iron Horse
Spent a day shooting photos in Iron Horse Park, an aging, rusting, decaying brown site -- a place contaminated by hazardous waste -- in Billerica, Massachusetts. All I could think of was the parents who must worry about the air their children breathe and the puddles they jump in. And what about all the lost opportunities, lost jobs and lost quality of life from the environmental hazards left behind. At first I hesitated to share the location because this site is posted and there is no parking, no stopping.
The Iron Horse Park site, a 553-acre industrial complex, includes manufacturing and railyard maintenance facilities, open storage areas, landfills, and wastewater lagoons. A long history of activities at the site, beginning in 1913, has resulted in the contamination of soil, groundwater, and surface water. An asbestos landfill is located at the site adjacent to the lagoons area. Middlesex Canal runs along the length of the northern boundary and is drained by Content Brook, which runs through residential areas into the Shawseen River east of the site. Richardson Pond lies north of the site and is also drained by Content Brook. An unnamed brook, which runs northerly through the site near wastewater lagoons, drains into a marshland near the asbestos landfill.
Approximately 61,000 people live within a 3-mile radius of the site. There are four day care centers or nursery schools, two housing units for the elderly, and a walk-in clinic in the area. A trailer park and condominium complex are located within 1 mile of the site.
Instead of closing this off to the public, perhaps there should be bus tours and school trips to places like this. We need to remember and learn from our past sins as a society so we don't make the same mistakes.
If you decide to go here, please exercise abundant caution for your personal safety.

Filmed on July 15, 2018: These are by far the fastest elevators in a low-rise building structure that I have ever ridden in my life! Also, notice the floor layouts on the COP (control operating panel) is swapped oppositely. I believe Bobby (elevatordude3308) has filmed these long ago before. Installed in 1987.
