Arctic Norway - Part 1: Our Rocky Way to Tromsø
March 2016 saw us set off on our very first Arctic adventure when we explored Northern Norway's Tromsø and then jumped on a Hurtigruten ship to Lofoten Island.
In this first part of our series we are travelling from Northern Ireland to Northern Norway. The views from the plane will give you goosebumps - and it certainly was a bumpy ride for us.

????????Chasing Lights in Tromsø, Norway
Thomas Hunger is an average German fellow but with a touch of quirkiness—his obsession with the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). He beams with childish enthusiasm and his eyes light up with wonder every time he talks about this natural phenomenon.
But Thomas is not a visitor seeing it for the first time nor is he just a regular tour guide—Thomas “chases” Aurora like a stormchaser would chase tornados. He is in the business of selling the experience of seeing the Northern Lights even though he can never guarantee his guests that he and his team will succeed catching one. Still, his trips are filled with excitement and frenzy as he constantly consults weather apps to find it, communicates with his team on possible sightings, and crosses open borders into Sweden and Finland with his head fixed skywards, waiting for Aurora to poke out from behind the clouds at night.
When the van they travel in stops his enthusiastic guests get off and plant a thicket of tripods in the snow—cameras pointed up and ISOs boosted high to vividly capture the magical and undulating green waves in the sky.
Thomas runs one of the most successful companies in Tromsø, Norway incidentally called, Chasing Lights. Guests from as far as Malaysia, China and India make the journey just to be mesmerized by this wash of green that fills the skies of Arctic nights. It’s an experience to cross off the bucket list, his guests often say.

Tromsø, a city in northern Norway, is a major cultural hub above the Arctic Circle. It’s famed as a viewing point for colorful Northern Lights that sometime light up the nighttime sky. The city’s historic center, on the island of Tromsø, is distinguished by its centuries-old wooden houses. The 1965 Arctic Cathedral, with its distinctive peaked roof and soaring stained-glass windows, dominates the skyline.

October 13th 2018, shopping in the city and the final night of HUNTING for the NORTHERN LIGHTS in Tromsø with NORTHERN SOUL ADVENTURES They take only small groups of max 7 people to drive around and search for a scenic spot to see the Aurora Borealis!!
We were lucky and had an IMPRESSIVE display of NORTHERN LIGHTS just as we were about to go home. Jeff our guide and owner of this agency is very kind and very knowledgeable and will lend you good solid tripods, help you set your camera, lend you the warm body-suit and give you soup and bread by the fireplace! Very pleasant experience and almost guaranteed to see the AURORA BOREALIS every night, for around $200 per person.
Seeing the Northern Lights for the First Time | Tromso, Norway
Arriving in Tromso, Norway we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights on our first night.
It was a night I will never forget as it turned out to be one of the best displays of the Aurora Borealis of the year so far.
Admittedly, as I explain in the video, I did struggle with some of my equipment as I panicked a bit in the heat of the moment and the adrenaline got the better of me. I did however, manage to take some photos once I had composed myself and it was without a doubt one of the best experiences of my life.

Our group of friends went 10 days in Northern Norway. 10 days of awesome meets and amazing experiences such as Northern lights, wales, or the wonderful Lofoten Islands. We drive you now to the North paradise =)
Notre groupe d'amis a passé 10 jours dans le Nord de la Norvège. 10 jours de magnifiques rencontres et expériences magiques telles que les aurores boréales, les baleines, ou encore les merveilleuses îles Lofoten. Nous avons aussi pu revivre une partie de l'expérience North of the sun avec ces deux Norvégiens qui sont restés vivre sur une plage des Lofoten pendant les mois hivernaux pour collecter les déchets et surfer. 4K Northern Lights Time Lapse Tromso Norway
This is a very short Time Lapse of the Northern Lights at Tromsø Norway. The Time Lapse only Spans 41 minutes overlooking one of the fjords but will give you a feel as if you were there. The Time-lapse is in two parts, one at regular speed which only lasts 5 seconds and the second half at 1/2 the speed. I wish I could have taken a three hour Time Lapse but the tour would not stay at one location long enough. Next time I'm going to find a tour where I can stay at one good location for 3 hours.

Finally! We were able to check off a bucket list item for us which is seeing the northern lights!! However...we didn't just see any ol' northern lights...we saw according to our guide, the best northern lights of his life!! It was incredible!!

The top thing on my bucket list was to see the Northern Lights. So, I came to Norway in search of it. Most of my trip was a road trip across Norway .Lofoten exceeded my expectations , Lofoten's sky and it's fjords took my breath away. In Tromsø , as soon as I stepped out of the airport I saw , Aurora Borealis or the Northern Lights. There is a time-lapse of the lights in the vlog. Tromso was much more than just northern lights. There also some tips to see the lights.
