NOT THE ISTANBUL YOU EXPECT! | Moda & Kadikoy Asian Side | Turkey Travel Vlog
Istanbul has an Asian side that most people don't travel, we did ❤️ Moda & Kadikoy show the real Turkey and in this vlog...✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —
Come check out Moda and Kadikoy in this vlog!
We mentioned in our first Turkey vlog that Istanbul is unique - it's got an Asian side and a Euro side. Most people sadly miss Moda and Kadikoy, our 2 favourite places in Istanbul! You might be kind of surprised to see this side of Istanbul, it's seriously amazing.
In this vlog we travel around our neighbourhood of Kadikoy, it's super local, charming and full of cafes and restaurants. Moda in particular is our fav spot, down by the Moda pier is a quiet little walkway along the waters edge with views out across the lesser known Istanbul.
It's amazing to know that Turkey has these pockets of local life, in Istanbul Asia side, worth visiting but a shame that most visitors to Istanbul don't get the chance to see it. We actually just published a blog post about Moda and our time staying in Kadikoy featuring our favourite spots to visit, it goes deeper than the video. Have a read here —

HUGE TURKISH FOOD TOUR IN ISTANBUL | Foodie Heaven!
Vlog #527 Istanbul, Turkey // THANK YOU Latif & Istanbul on Food! We had the most DELICIOUS day eating all kinds of traditional Turkish foods that we had never even heard of before! We LOVE learning about a country and it’s culture/history through it’s food, and this tour is one of the absolute best food tours we’ve ever done! We started out at the local market where we picked up cheese, olives, and bread, then had a massive Turkish feast for breakfast with tea and a few other traditional morning dishes. Next we had breakfast part 2 which was a hearty lamb stew. Other highlights include street mussels, “turkish tacos,” a trip to the sweets shop, RAW meatballs, and making our own Turkish pizza!

We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before Nate turns 30 (which is March 20, 2019)! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Sign up for Airbnb and get £25 off your first adventure. Here’s my invitation link:
I left Cappadocia after 3 amazing nights, I then arrived in ISTANBUL at sun set. I found myself in a lively district, I done a bit of exploring that night and saw some iconic landmarks lit up. The next day Mario ( a fellow traveller) and I went out to explore for the day, starting off at the blue mosque, then visiting an old water cistern. I then visited the grand bazaar, Taksim and the Galata tower. A nice full day tour, through Istanbul. I have more to come on Istanbul. It is an incredible city, with so much to see. Around every corner there is something new. Also, for anyone wondering, I left totally safe. I felt safe in all of the places I visited in Turkey in 2018.

Turkish Food Tour in Istanbul - BEST Kebabs of My Life, AMAZING Seafood, and Turkish Ice Cream!
►Check out my Istanbul Travel Food Guide:
►Subscribe to my videos:
►Camera gear I use:
The first thing we did in the morning in Istanbul was drive over to Beşiktaş to eat an amazing Turkish food breakfast at a restaurant called Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu. From there we took the ferry across the Bosphorus to Kadiköy, where we had an incredible Turkish seafood meal for lunch. Finally, we enjoyed some Turkish ice cream, and the show, and had the most incredible kebab I’ve ever had in my life at Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. It was an amazing day of Turkish food in Istanbul!
1:27 Turkish breakfast at Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu - For breakfast we headed to Beşiktaş, one of my favorite areas of Istanbul, and went to a restaurant known for serving breakfast. The breakfast was amazing, and I ate a dish of eggs with beef and butter. The side dishes were also fantastic. Total price - 29 TL ($9.73)
7:40 Boat to Kadiköy and Kadiköy Market - During our trip so far to Istanbul, we hadn’t had a chance to go to the Asian side of Istanbul. So today, we took the ferry over to Kadiköy pier on the Asian side across the Bosphorus. The views of Istanbul from the Bosphorus were stunning. On the other side, the main thing I wanted to do was explore Kadiköy Market, which was every bit as colorful as I had imagined. The fresh vegetables and seafood were fantastic, and I tried a cup of pickle juice.
1 Week Ago in Mumbai:
12:45 Seafood lunch at Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant - Of all the meals I ate in Istanbul, this was one of my personal favorites, being a seafood lover. Not a far walk from the market, we went to a local family run seafood restaurant called Balıkçı Lokantası Restaurant. The owners were really friendly, and I ordered a plate of hamsi (which are anchovies), and I’m not sure of the name of the other dish, but I got Black Sea salmon braised in olive oil and butter I think with herbs and spices. It was one of the best Turkish foods I ate the entire trip to Istanbul. Wow, it was amazing.
20:50 Turkish Ice Cream - After spending some time exploring the Asian side of Istanbul, we took the ferry back to the European side, and since Istiklal Street was on our route, we stopped to have Turkish ice cream. You also see Turkish ice cream vendors playing with their customers, but when you’re the victim, it’s so confusing and funny. They have some serious skills playing with Turkish ice cream. Do you like Turkish ice cream?
23:49 Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant - For our final Turkish food meal of the day, we headed over to Zübeyir Ocakbaşı Restaurant. Ocakbaşı is a type of Turkish grill, and they served all sorts of different meat included kebabs and lamb chops in particular. We also got a bunch of side dishes and they cooked the kebabs and lamb chops right in front of us within the center of the restaurant. The kebab was the best I’ve ever had in my mouth, with an amazing mixture of minced meat and spices. Total price - 100 TL ($33.55). Thank you to David from for the recommendation.

WE'RE IN TURKEY! Modern Turkish Breakfast in Kadikoy | Istanbul Food & Travel Vlog
Our first Turkey vlog! In Istanbul we travel around to find a Turkish breakfast in our Kadikoy area and discover that the best...✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —
We're so excited to be in Istanbul and sharing this first Turkey travel vlog with you from Kadikoy! We've heard so much about the food in Istanbul being the best and how good Turkish breakfast is, so it's only natural in our first vlog we went hunting for a Turkish breakfast with a bit of a twist. Same food, well sort of, but with a new modern approach.
Our local neighbourhood is called Kadikoy on the Asia side of Istanbul and is home to more Turkish locals than tourists - and we love that! You can see in the vlog, there's not too many travellers around, which makes the food that much more traditional.
In saying that, we wanted to take a new twist on the famous Turkish breakfast in this vlog, so we found a place that serves the same kind of food and flavours but using pancakes and a few of the best sweeter options.
This is only vlog 1 from Turkey, 2 more to share from Istanbul and then we start a massive tour to see a heap more of what Turkey has to offer.

Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | In Istanbul, we'll lose our way in the Grand Bazaar and munch our way through the famously fragrant Spice Market. We'll follow the fall of the ancient capital of Byzantium and the rise of Islam at the city's ancient wall, and wander among the treasures of Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and Topkapı Palace. To escape the city bustle, we'll cruise the churning waters of the Bosphorus, make friends over backgammon, and try a traditional Turkish bath.

Best Doner Kebab In Istanbul Where Locals Eat & Walking Tour & Copperware
I am taking you to a walking tour of Istanbul's one of the main historical areas Beyazıt and show you the secret place you can eat the best doner for the best prices where locals of Istanbul eat.
The Doner place is very small and self-service, like street food but across the street, there is a small shop where you can sit down and eat. It is not a restaurant you can relax and sit for hours and enjoy, rather a place you can have quickly your delicious doner kebab sandwich for a lower price while resting a bit than continue to your tour to discover new places around Istanbul's historic area.
Watch how to make doner at home:

The places In the video:
Şehzade Mosque
The mosque was constructed at the order of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent to commemorate his favorite son Şehzade Mehmed after his early passing in 1543. It is the first sultanic mosques designed by Sinan, the architect of this project
Beyazıt Fire-Tower
Hacı Osman Doner Buffet
The Copperware Shops
The Beyazıd Square
The Forum And The Arch of Theodosios
The Forum of Theodosius (φόρος Θεοδοσίου, also known as Forum Tauri) was built during the reign of Theodosius I (379-395). It was located on the Mese (the main street of Constantinople) west of the Forum of Constantinople and Hagia Sophia. Possibly the largest forum of Constantinople, it had a monumental column crowned with a statue of Theodosius and a triumphal arch.
II. Bayezid Turkish Hamam (Bath) Museum
The Bayezid II Hammam dates back to the 16th century when Sultan Bayezid II commissioned it as part of the complex around the nearby Beyazit Mosque. The Museum displays many items relevant to the Turkish bath, such as copper jugs, water bowls, towels, and bath shoes. Helpful texts in Turkish and English explain the origins and history of Turkish baths in Istanbul, as well as the spread of Turkish baths to Western European cities in the 19th century.

ISTANBUL STREET FOOD will BLOW YOU AWAY!! Turkish Street Food HEAVEN - Adana Kebab + Pickle Juice!
Kemeraltı Bazaar in Izmir:
Iskender Kebab in Bursa :
Amazing street food can be found all around Istanbul! Join us as we continue our Street Food in Turkey tour! Today we are going to be trying some unique foods you’ve never heard of!
For breakfast, we are having a RARE type of turşu suyu, which is pickle juice. We ordered the “mixed” version - with cabbage, carrots, cucumbers and beets. And of course, the pickle juice is SPICY! (5 TRY / 0.86 USD)
Next, we’re visiting a weekly fresh market called Tarlabaşi Pazari which is only open on Sundays. In the summer, apricots are in season, and they are worth trying fresh at this traditional market!
In Istanbul, you can sample delicious cuisine that comes from all over Turkey. This time, we decided on Adana cuisine. Adana kebab is made from hand-minced lamb meat cooked over charcoal. That smokey flavour and juicy lamb is HEAVEN! (35 TRY / 6.02 USD)
If you’ve never tried traditional Turkish ice cream, you are missing out! We head to an old-school shop serving up a chewy textured (made from mastic) ice cream cone. So incredible on a hot Turkish summer day! (4.5 TRY / 0.77 USD)
Next up is a cruise on the iconic Bosphorus, because a trip to Istanbul is not complete without one. We opted for the economic TurYol cruise, a 90-minute tour north that passes palaces, mansions, bridges and plenty of gorgeous sights. For 20 TRY / 3.44 USD, that is totally worth it!!!
Since we were near the Bosphorus, we thought we would try the very FAMOUS Balik Ekmek, or grilled fish sandwich. In a tourist hot-spot, served from a real boat, the sights surrounding the restaurant are why it is so popular. The food however, was not that tasty and isn’t considered a good choice among the locals. We wanted to see what the hype was about. Oh well! (15 TRY / 2.58 USD)
