Washoe Club In Virginia City, Nevada on Ghost Adventures
Instagram The Ghost Adventures team are traveling to Virginia City, Nevada to investigate the famous Washoe Club. Described as “one of the most haunted places in the West,” the Washoe Club has a storied past that involves various hauntings and paranormal sightings. Read on to learn more about the location. According to Travel Nevada, the Washoe Club is one of the state’s oldest saloons. It opened just four months before the Great Fire of 1875, which destroyed most of town. It was rebuilt and opened a second time in 1876, when it was expanded to be a meeting grounds for the Virginia City elite. By the middle of the decade, the Washoe Club was one of the most popular saloons in the area, bringing in miners, prostitutes, gunslingers, performers and notable businessmen.Washoe Club Was Founded In 1875 & Closed Its Doors In 1897 Due to such elite clientele, the saloon formed a group known as the Millionaires Club, which were allowed access to exclusive quarters and amenities. These amenities included a billiard room, a parlor filled with bronze statuettes, a wine room, and even a reading room that was made in the shape of a grand piano. The membership roster of the Millionaires Club included figures like John Mackay, as well as Ulysses S. Grant, Edwin Booth, and Darius Ogden Mills. Once memberships into the club waned, business slowed down, and the club closed its doors in 1897. Nowadays, the Washoe Club is home to various spirits and supernatural occurrences. Visitors can go on hourly ghost tours, or, if they feel particularly emboldened, they can spend the night in one of the rooms for an Overnight Investigation. In the case of the latter, groups will be locked down for the evening with access to all three floors of the Washoe Club. They will also have access to notoriously haunted areas such as the Crypt and the Spiral Staircase, which is the longest freestanding spiral staircase ever built. The staircase is believed to be haunted by the spirit of a woman named Lena.Washoe Club Is Said to Be Haunted By a Female Prostitute Who Committed Suicide The Washoe Club and its conjoining museum are open every day from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It has been featured on several paranormal shows, including Ghost Hunters and an earlier episode of Ghost Adventures. During the latter, stars Zak Baggins and the rest of the team claim to have made contact with a spirit, and the experience brings some of them to tears. According to an employee, the spirit they made contact with was that of a female prostitute who slit her wrists in room 11. Nick Groff, a longtime cast member, said that he was shocked by what they found at the Washoe Club. “It caught us totally off guard. We were not really prepared for some of the stuff we captured,” he told Love to Know. “The Goldfield Hotel and the Old Washoe Club were amazing. Capturing evidence, going home and reviewing it was surprising. Seeing a full body apparition at the Washoe club blew our minds, but it was what provided th
WE EXPLORE THE HAUNTED OLD WASHOE CLUB VIRGINIA CITY NV
Virginia City could be considered the birthplace of Mark Twain, as it was here in February 1863[24] that writer Samuel Clemens, then a reporter on the local Territorial Enterprise newspaper, first used his famous pen name.[25] Clemens lived in Virginia City and wrote for the Enterprise from late fall 1862 until May 1864, when he escaped from a potential duel instigated by a local newspaper editor upset at Clemens' reporting. Clemens returned to the Comstock region twice on western lecture tours, once in 1866 where he was mugged on the Divide.[26] The muggers relieved Clemens of his watch and his money. The robbery turns out to have been a practical joke played on Clemens by his friends. He did not appreciate the joke, but he did retrieve his belongings—particularly his gold watch (worth $300), which had great sentimental value.[27] Clemens mentions the incident in his book Roughing It (1872), apparently still sore about it. Clemens' second lecture tour in 1868 occurred at the time of the hanging of John Millian, who was convicted of murdering Julia BuletteTHE MILLIONAIRES CLUB
Part of the largest historic district in the state of Nevada, it should come as no surprise that the Washoe Club is home of Virginia City’s oldest saloon! The timing wasn’t its forte, however. The Washoe Club originally opened for business just four months before the Great Fire that destroyed most of town. The Saloon was rebuilt and opened a second time later in 1876, and aside from being a bar, the Washoe Club was designed to be the meeting grounds for the Virginia City elite. By the mid 1870s, Virginia City was booming in a way that’s hard to grasp in modern times; the Comstock was pumping out millions of dollars in profitable, high grade silver, and the upper crust of the American West had set their sights on Virginia City. The most skilled miners, famous prostitutes and gunslingers, writers, performers and businessmen flocked to the Comstock, hoping to get in on the action.
Of course the richest of the rich wanted a place to meet, and formed the Old Washoe Club… otherwise known as the Millionaires Club. The Club’s exclusive quarters was on the second floor, above the Crystal Bar, and housed luxuries only imagined by the rest of the American West: the finest library east of San Francisco, a lavish billiard room, a parlor adorned with Italian marble and bronze statuettes, a wine room made from carved black walnut sideboard, and even a reading room in the shape of a grand piano. This elite social club met regularly, but in order to get in you had to meet one small criteria: you had to be a millionaire. The Club’s membership roster included people famous from the Comstock like John Mackay, and other nationally significant members like Ulysses S. Grant, actor Edwin Booth, and railroad magnate Darius Ogden Mills.
As the Comstock declined, so did the Washoe Club, with membership renewals continuing to drop off monthly until it’s ultimate demise in 1897. The famed Territorial Enterprise reported, “The Closing of the Washoe Club marks an era in the history of Nevada, as did its opening.”
DAILY GHOST TOURS & OVERNIGHT INVESTIGATIONS
The Saloon on the bottom level of The Washoe Club continued to operate long after the Club had come to a demise, though the second and third floors sat empty for decades. Lavish amenities were stripped over time, specifically in relation to a renovation gone wrong in the 1980s. Though the use of the second and third stories haven’t been in use for more than 100 years, that isn’t stopping the ghosts. Paranormal investigators from all over the globe are drawn to The Washoe Club, reporting this is the most haunted place in Virginia City, if not the entire state.
Visitors can partake in hourly Ghost Tours, or if bravery is a particular strong point, spend the night in the Old Washoe Club for an Overnight Investigation. Here, groups will be locked down for the evening with access to all three floors of the Washoe Club, including The Crypt and Spiral Staircase: the longest freestanding spiral staircase ever built, which is said to be haunted by a resident spirit named Lena.
HOURS & ADMISSION
The Washoe Club & Haunted Museum are open year round, seven days a week. Guided tours run every day from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m, typically starting every hour on the hour, and includes all three floors of the Washoe Club. As Virginia City’s most haunted destination, please note that hourly Ghost Tours tend to fill up quickly, so be sure to call ahead to make certain your spot is reserved. Secure your tour at the Washoe Club itself, or the Virginia City Visitors Center, where you can also get your hands on a Comstock Adventure Pass that includes a variety of attractions in Virginia City.

THINGS TO DO IN VIRGINIA CITY
V&T Railroad
The Virginia & Truckee Railroad is, by far, the most famous of all American short-line railroads. In its heyday, as many as 45 trains a day arrived and departed Virginia City. President Ulysses S. Grant and dignitaries the world overrode in the ornate coaches of the Virginia & Truckee. Completed in 1869, these trains hauled millions of dollars of gold and silver ore from the rich mines of Virginia City.
Take a 35-minute excursion back into the Old West with a journey on the V&T Railroad from Virginia City, through tunnel 4 to Gold Hill, Nevada. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride while taking in the spectacular mountain scenery. Hear the conductor narrate the amazing history of the Comstock while the train chuffs past the famous Comstock Bonanza mine ruins.
Virginia City Haunted Locations and Ghost Tours
Well known for its rich mining history, Virginia City is self-proclaimed as one of the most haunted towns in America. If you like to dabble in the paranormal or are looking to try something new and a little spooky, Virginia City offers many haunted locations, as well as guided ghost tours.
Built in 1876, the Silver Queen Hotel has many reported accounts of paranormal activity by guests over the years. If you choose to brave the night, you may encounter tapping on the walls, loud banging and possibly the sound of footsteps said to be coming from a woman who took her own life in Room 11. Another hotel said to be haunted is located right down the street in front of the old Yellowjacket mine, The Gold Hill Hotel and Miner’s Cabin. Home to two well-known spirits, this hotel draws visitors each year looking to stay in Rosie’s or William’s rooms and have their own encounter with the inhabitants.
VIRGINIA CITY HISTORY
In 1859, placer miners and prospectors in the western Great Basin made two amazing strikes of gold and silver ore near Virginia City. The Comstock Lode, as people soon called the ore body, resulted in what would today be billions of dollars in riches. Virginia City became a highly urbanized, industrial setting and by the early 1870s, together with its smaller neighbor, Gold Hill, reached a population of nearly 25,000, becoming one of the nation’s larger communities.
Mining camps are known to pass through an evolution of boom, dramatic growth and excitement and then decline — Virginia City certainly followed that pattern. By the early 1880s, it was becoming clear that the good times were over. It had been years since miners had discovered any new bonanzas, and thousands of people were leaving for better opportunities. By the Great Depression, Virginia City had declined, shrinking into a town of only several hundred people.
Interestingly, the NBC television Western, Bonanza, that ran from 1959 to 1973, brought a declining Virginia City back to life. Due to the enormous popularity of the show, visitors from around the world began to seek out and discover this famous Western city, previously known only through the chronicled, weekly adventures of the Cartwright family.

We had to depart the area. This also shows some of my sensitive abilities with the spirits. How I can pick up on some of them. Describe their mood, clothing and names etc. which freaked them out. Yes, I freak out even ghosts themselves. That is why I am the Haunted Man!
A Virginia City venue favored in the past by Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters. The Millionaires Club is haunted by a myriad of spooks. The exclusive patronage died but never left!

This is the oldest saloon in Virginia City, Nevada. I did a lock-down in its small museum and crypt area back in 2012. Back then the upper two levels of the building was off limits due to safety regulations. This time we had full reign.
Zak Bagans Haunted Museum, Las Vegas (ANNABELLE)
Filmed on 3-5-2017. Zak Bagans from Ghost Adventures originally from Trenton, Michigan. Now living in Las Vegas, and studied at University Of Las Vegas. Zac was given a project from one of his professors at UNLV to make a film. So he chose two other people to join him. Nick Groff a native of Las Vegas, and a fellow paranormal researcher. Aron Goodwin a filmmaker that filmed the XFL while in Las Vegas. The three of them started on a three week drive through the mining towns of Nevada. They got their first evidence of the paranormal in Virginia City. An apparition walking past a filming camera at the Old Washoe Club in the Millionaire's club. It aired on the SyFy channel, and soon after Zak received a call from Red Roberts the owner of the Goldfield Hotel. The Goldfield Hotel is known to be in the top 5 of haunted locations in the United States. There they captured on film a brick getting picked up, and then thrown. Now Zak has another show called Deadly Possessions. A collection of haunted, and possessed objects housed in a historical mansion in Las Vegas, Nevada. Its a museum due to open sometime in March. Please enjoy, and thanks for watching Christian.
Ponderosa Saloon and Belcher Mine - Part 4 Once A Bank Now A Place Of Spirits
The saloon at one time was the Sharon House and in 1864 The Bank Of California which played a role in developing the Comstock Lode. I will take you into a bank vault and a blast to the past as I film relics of the past. The bank would close in the 1930s not before it was robbed by a band of outlaws who buried some of the loot up at six mile canyon which is visible from downtown Virginia City. Eventually in the 1970s when the owners purchased this location they turned it into the saloon and dug a horizontal shaft into the main tunnel of The Belcher Mine so that they could give tours to its visitors while they could enjoy an ice cold brew. The saloon is very cozy as almost everything is original that includes the flooring, woodwork, old antique lamps and some of the relics in the cabinets. Mounted on the walls above are bucks, elks and even a boars head. It just feels so natural to be here and although its a little noisy in the background what does that tell you? It tells you everyone is having a great time and spirits is what its truly about.
