San Francisco Bay Wave Organ
In 1986, sponsored by the Exploratorium, public artist Peter Richards collaborated with stone mason George Gonzalez to create the Wave Organ. A series of pipes enter the waters of San Francisco Bay creating an acoustical conversation between the ocean tides, sun, moon, and the city. The site encourages visitors to listen deeply to the pipes and surroundings while taking in the views of San Francisco, Alcatraz, Angel Island and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Wave Organ Solo No.2
This is my second video of the Wave Organ. It features sounds from another one of the pipes, the one under the table to the left. This year the Wave Organ was restored in loving memory of Ann Hall (1937-2005) I suggest you visit the organ for more information and the names of the generous donors to this unique and unusual musical instrument. I thank the wind and the waves and the sun and the moon for their performance.
The Wave Organ ???? in San Francisco!
Situated on a long jetty in the San Francisco Bay, the Exploratorium built this unique structure known as The Wave Organ!
The Wave Organ is an acoustic sculpture that you can walk around and sit on while listening to the ocean waves interacting with a series of tubes that swoop around and into the water.
It was designed specifically to amplify and manipulate the natural sounds of the ocean.
Not a lot of people know about this hidden treasure right in the Marina District of San Francisco, CA!

Exploring the Bay - Crissy Fields and Wave Organ, San Francisco 2015
Crissy Fields is a very busy place with many activities going on. Some people go there to jog, some times it is part of a marathon. Windsurfers, dog walkers, families... they're all there. Beautiful view of the Golden Gate. Further towards the Marina is Wave Organ. An art sculpture that utilizes the waves to play the many of the pipes that are set up.

Wave Organ Solo No.1
Continue on past the Golden Gate Yacht Club at 1 Yacht Rd and you will find the Wave Organ. I am recording the sounds coming out of its pipes with a ZOOM H2 Handy Recorder and a Canon HF11 camcorder. This is my first effort. I plan to have further examples showing the variety of sounds from the different pipes under different conditions on the bay. I suggest you use earphones or sound system with good base response to hear the low frequencies. To experience the organ yourself, go when the tide is high and the bay is active, the more waves the better. You will also get a great view of the bay and maybe even catch a fish. Wheelchair accessible.
