Rotterdam, trams, canals, museums, Netherlands
Starting out at the Rotterdam train station, which is where you would probably be arriving when you come to Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. There's an excellent Tourist Information counter here where you can get a lot of good advice about the main sites you want to see in your visit.
The tram station out front is quite active with eight different tramlines running through it. You'll quickly reach anywhere in town from the central station.
There are very modern buildings in Rotterdam, and they are well planned with apartments in the downtown area and some parks and you've got the idyllic waterfront with the boat traffic and the apartments around it.
There is a culture history museum. There's an excellent art museum. And that's where we are heading soon in the program, show you a couple of fine museums.
First we walk along Westersingel canal, with parks along the banks of the canal, you've got some ducks quacking by and also it's an outdoor sculpture garden with fountains and benches and a wide promenade that makes for very easy and pleasant walking.
Then we visit a great museum, Boymans van Beuningen, which is one of the major art museums in the Netherlands, an amazing collection that spans from the Renaissance and earlier right up through modern design.
Then, the museum we are heading for next is all about people and culture history called the World Museum and English, or in Dutch, the name is Wereldmuseum.
The city population is 640,000 making it second largest after Amsterdam, but if you include the greater metropolitan area extending to the Hague, population totals 2.5 million. Rotterdam has got 38 skyscrapers and 352 high-rises with many more skyscrapers coming up soon.
There are nine different tramlines operating in Rotterdam, making this a very convenient way to get around, and they are thoroughly modernized. Although, in their beginnings, they were founded in 1878 as horse-drawn trams. In 1904 the first electric trams began service and gradually the horse wagons were phased out. By 1906 there was already five electric tramlines operating and then four more lines began in the next four years. The last horse cars stopped running by 1925. The maximum extent of Rotterdam's tramway network was 25 lines, which was reached in 1930.
Throughout the main cities of Europe, there has been a similar history of trams developing from horse to electric, and then declining, and in recent years, a resurgence in popularity of the system. Currently 40 different Dutch cities have operating tram systems, but only two have metros, Rotterdam and Amsterdam.

For the first time ever, 'All the Rembrandts' are on display in Amsterdam
An extraordinary new exhibition in Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum marks the first time the museum’s entire collection of Rembrandts is available to the public. Titled “All the Rembrandts,” the show commemorates the 350th anniversary of the Dutch master’s death and sheds new light on his personal life. Jeffrey Brown speaks to art historians and walks the streets that fostered Rembrandt’s creative vision.

My name is Jovie and I am a Serbian/Canadian/American Expat Mama (married to a Spanish/Frenchman) living in and LOVING The Netherlands. Whoa, that's a lot of different cultures in one house!
I moved to The Netherlands with my husband in 2009 to work as international criminal lawyers at one of the tribunals in The Hague. Eventually, I became a YouTube-from-home mom (hubby still works in international criminal law).
I make videos about life in The Netherlands as a foreigner. The goal of my videos is to teach viewers how something works in NL; to share my observations of Dutch life and culture and to get to know my home country. I don't always get it right but I am always happy to learn. I've learned so much from the viewers and commenters on this channel and for that, I'm forever grateful. So feel free to share your thoughts in the comments - I'm listening!
Won't you come on over, kick off your shoes and stay awhile?
PS - If you're wondering why my videos will always be in English, the answer is simple: more people in the world speak English than Dutch. I want this channel to be accessible and understandable for as many people as possible.

Amsterdam
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Amsterdam — Europe's best-preserved 17th-century city — is simultaneously quaint and jarring, traditional and modern. Filled with history and still happy-go-lucky, it's a delight to explore. Uniquely entertaining Amsterdam shows off its Rembrandts and Van Goghs, more bikes than cars, flirting prostitutes, and pot-filled coffeeshops — all under tall, skinny facades leaning out over placid canals.

The Netherlands: Beyond Amsterdam
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | By train, bike, and boat, we visit the top Dutch sights outside of Amsterdam: from Haarlem to Rotterdam, and from Delft to the Zuiderzee. Along the way, we enjoy charming towns with fragrant cheese markets, soggy polderland, mighty dikes, and windmills both new and old. Rolling through the Netherlands and connecting with its people, you can’t help but think, “Everything’s so...Dutch!”

AMSTERDAM WINTER TRAVEL VLOG - DAY 3 (VAN GOGH MUSEUM) | 05-01-2019
Good morning everyone! Join us in another Amsterdam Winter travel vlog where we visit the Van Gogh museum!
We have been staying at Atlantis Hotel which is a short walk from the main city centre of Amsterdam, and about a 15 minute walk from the Van Gogh museum.
Keep in mind that tickets for Van Gogh were sold out and the only way we obtained them was by buying a combination ticket.
Also, I suggest that you pick up the audio guide (about 90 minutes long) as the narrator will explain the story behind Van Gogh's work.
You'll get to see some of the Rijksmuseum during our walk to the Van Gogh museum.
After the Van Gogh museum, we had to quickly rush back to our hotel room to check-out by 12! Then catch a taxi to the airport to catch our 3.30 pm flight back to the U.K.
The last 10 minutes of the video is a debrief on our thoughts of the Van Gogh museum. It was a very inspiring experience! I highly recommend that you book tickets in advance to see this museum if you plan to come to Amsterdam.
If you want to open a discussion or have any comments, write them down below.
Have an awesome day!

Nederland, What do you think of amsterdam in wintertime?
Amsterdam is the largest city and the capital of the Netherlands. Its principal language is Dutch. The city's status as the capital of the nation is governed by the constitution. Amsterdam has a population of 820,256 within city limits, an urban population of 1,209,419 and a metropolitan population of 2,289,762.The city is located in the province of North Holland in the west of the country. It comprises the northern part of the Randstad, one of the larger conurbations in Europe, with a population of approximately 7 million.
Amsterdam's name is derived from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin: a dam in the river Amstel. Settled as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. During that time, the city was the leading center for finance and diamonds. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the city expanded, and many new neighborhoods and suburbs were formed. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam (in Dutch: 'Grachtengordel'), located in the heart of Amsterdam, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2010.
As Netherlands' commercial capital and one of the top financial centres in Europe, Amsterdam is considered an alpha world city by the Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) study group. The city is also cultural capital of the Netherlands. Many large Dutch institutions have their headquarters there, and 7 of the world's top 500 companies, including Philips and ING, are based in the city. In 2010, Amsterdam was ranked 13th globally on quality of living by Mercer, and previously ranked 3rd in innovation by 2thinknow in the Innovation Cities Index 2009.
The Amsterdam Stock Exchange, the oldest stock exchange in the world, is located in the city center. Amsterdam's main attractions, including its historic canals, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Anne Frank House, Amsterdam Museum, its red-light district, and its many cannabis coffee shops draw more than 3.66 million international visitors annually.

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam Base collection
Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum - STEDELIJK BASE opens on 16 December. AMO architects Rem Koolhaas and Federico Martelli developed a playful, lightweight exhibition concept specifically for this new collection presentation at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Seven hundred highlights from the collection are presented in a landscape of freestanding, ultra-thin walls created especially for this installation. This unique architectural feature was made possible through the innovative application of steel.STEDELIJK BASE is divided over two spaces. Art from 1880 to 1980 is featured in the lower level gallery (Part 1), while a presentation of art after 1980 is located on the first floor (Part 2). Between the two floors, on the mezzanine, the visitor enters an immersive artwork by Barbara Kruger. In 2010 Kruger developed a wall wrap especially for the Stedelijk. The work incorporates confrontational, emotionally-charged statements about what people think of each other. Kruger wrote texts for this wall installation herself, but also quoted from George Orwell's novel, 1984, and the notebooks and writings of philosopher Roland Barthes. It is a powerful, challenging work, realized here for the third time at the Stedelijk.

A Walk in a Red Light District - Eurotrip - Amsterdam Tour
Red Light District Amsterdam: It is very likely that you have heard about this neighbourhood and to be frank, everything you have heard is probably true. From brothels to sex shops to museums, the Amsterdam Red Light District has it all. But contrary to what a lot of people might think, the Amsterdam Red Light District has a very friendly atmosphere and isn't as dangerous as it used to be.Amsterdam prides itself, and rightly so, on its wholly liberal and tolerant attitude, embracing the fact that people may be into prostitution, soft drugs and pornography. And that it is only human. So instead of criminalizing everything, they enjoy the honesty of it all.
Disclaimer:
However just to document our tour to Amsterdam Red Light District we manage to film (using mobile phone) some ladies behind the window. We have no intention to exploit them but only to share our experience as tourists.
