Three more ballparks right here! -
By 1923, fifteen iconic baseball stadiums had been built so fans could enjoy America's wonderful pastime. By the time this documentary was filmed, four of those fifteen ballparks remained standing as they had when they were first built (without experiencing any upgrades): Wrigley Field, Comiskey Park, Fenway Park, and Tiger Stadium. Jeff Daniels hosts this inside-look at the legendary Tiger Stadium told by those who knew it the best.
Detroit, Michigan - A City on the Rise
After years of decline, Detroit is now on the rise. Unlike many of the formerly Manufacturing cities of have declined and remain depressed, Detroit is rising up. We show this now beautiful city on the shores of the Detroit River in this Aerial & Ground tour of the Midwest's 2nd Largest City, only behind Chicago.
Stock footage from this video is available for purchase, contact Tampa Aerial Media.
Detroit is older than our country, founded in 1701. The city grew largely to its automobile industry, but also fell with the automobile industry. Today, however the once bankrupt city is now rising with an explosive real estate market in the downtown corridor.
We feature the People Mover in this video which was opened in 1987. It is a monorail style 2.9 mile loop around downtown with 13 stops at a fare of 75 cents. We show Ford Field home of the Lions, and Comerica Park home of the Tigers. We had meant to also show Joe Louis Arena home of the Red Wings. It is right next to the Cobo Center, and we simply saw that and was thinking we had shot the arena but didn't.
The Renaissance Center is the most impressive and modern looking of the downtown Skyscrapers. It is the world head quarters of General Motors. It is so large it has its own Zip Code. 10,000 empolyees work in this building.

The most important thing for me is the memories. I can close my eyes and visualize certain things, certain memories that I'll have for life. They can't take those away. That's very special. -Alan Trammell as told to JON PAUL MOROSI of Detroit FREEP.com

DETROIT: GREEKTOWN - THE OLD - THE NEW - WINDS OF CHANGE
During my last visit to Greektown I was struck by how warm and inviting this part of Monroe Street appeared in the late afternoon sun. It just seemed like the right place to be in Detroit to revel in the ambience so abundant in Greektown. I also looked up at the sign at the top of the Greektown Casino Hotel and wondered – wasn’t that name supposed to be changed? Why was it not changed? Yes Iof course I thought that the proposed name change had all the appeal of a wet dishrag but why was the name not changed? In my wonderings, I was also perplexed as to why two mainstay Greek restaurants had closed since my last visit. How could that be possible? This is Greektown, why would these Greek restaurants be closed down? I was full of questions. Questions which in fact remained unanswered until I did this vlog. So join me as I take another look at Greektown, a look that leads me to the “old” as well as the “new”. All in all, I walked away feeling uncertain of the future of Greektown. It was going somewhere but I just didn’t know where.

Greektown is a historic commercial and entertainment district in Detroit, Michigan, located just northeast of the heart of downtown, along Monroe Avenue between Brush and St. Antoine Streets with a station on the city's elevated downtown transit system known as the Detroit People Mover. Greektown is also situated between the Renaissance Center, Comerica Park, and Ford Field. The district is dominated by Greek-themed restaurants and includes St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Second Baptist Church, the Athenium Suite Hotel, and the Greektown Casino-Hotel within its boundaries. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.[1] The district is often the site of the Greek parade in March.[2]
The area known today as Greektown was first settled in the 1830s by German immigrants, who created a primarily residential neighborhood in the area.[3] However, in the earliest years of the 20th century, most of the German residents began moving from the neighborhood into areas farther from downtown.[3] As the Germans left the area, new Greek immigrants moved in, spurred by Theodore Gerasimos, the first documented Greek immigrant in Detroit.[3] The newly arrived Greeks established businesses in the neighborhood.
By the 1920s, the area was becoming primarily commercial rather than residential, and the Greek residents began moving out; however, the restaurants, stores, and coffeehouses they established remained.[3] The next thirty years brought a melange of immigrants to the few residential spaces left in the neighborhood. Redevelopment in the 1960s led to the neighborhood becoming more commercialized to provide space for municipal buildings and parking.[3]
Realizing the culturally significant neighborhood was at risk, Detroit's Greek leaders banded together. With the help of the Mayor's office, the streetscape and building exteriors were improved, and additional street lighting was installed.[4] The neighborhood threw a Greek festival in 1966, timed to coincide with Fourth of July celebrations.[4] The festival was a success, and was continued for years until turnout grew too large.[4] By that time, Greektown was firmly established in Detroit. The Greektown Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
As of June 2012 only three full-fledged Greek restaurants remain in Greektown.[5] The neighborhood is a popular restaurant and entertainment district, having many restaurants that serve authentic Greek cuisine, as well as one of the city's three casinos, Greektown Casino. Certain buildings on Monroe Street are themed to resemble the Parthenon, Pegasus, and other forms of Greek architecture. Greek music is also played on Monroe Street throughout the day. Well known restaurants include The New Parthenon, The Golden Fleece, Laikon Cafe, Cyprus Taverna, Pegasus Taverna, Pizza Papalis, and Fishbone's Rhythm Kitchen Cafe. The Detroit People Mover has a station at the Greektown Casino on Beaubien Street between Monroe Street and Lafayette Boulevard.
Downtown Detroit - Including Ford Field Lion's Stadium (Detroit, Michigan)
A little look at downtown detroit and the Lion's stadium (NFL Team). After visiting over 200 cities in the USA, then ranks at the veryyy bottom of my list!! Once you step even one foot out of the main business district, you're welcomed with: abandoned buildings, gansters, please trying to sell you porn, pan handlers, convenience stores with glass barriers... It's just not a great place to be! Whoever sung Detroit, I love this city was obviously on crack! LOTS OF IT!
Downtown Detroit is the central business district and a residential area of the city of Detroit, Michigan, United States. Detroit is the major city in the larger Metro Detroit region. Downtown Detroit is bordered by M-10 (Lodge Freeway) to the west, Interstate 75 (I-75, Fisher Freeway) to the north, I-375 (Chrysler Freeway) to the east, and the Detroit River to the south. The city's main thoroughfare M-1 (Woodward Avenue) links Downtown to Midtown and New Center.
Downtown contains much historic architecture and many of the prominent skyscrapers in Detroit, including the Renaissance Center, the Penobscot Building, One Detroit Center, and the Guardian Building. Historic churches, theatres, and commercial buildings anchor the various downtown districts. Downtown has a number of parks including those linked by a promenade along the International Riverfront. Its central square is Campus Martius Park.

DETROIT - PANORAMIC VIEWS - OBSERVATION POINTS
The most exciting news concerning Detroit and Panoramic Observation Points is highlighted in this link:
One of the delights of visiting the world's great cities it to get a view from the top that gives an unobstructed panoramic view so to speak. Most of these cities are even branded with these observation points. For example, Paris with the Eiffel Tower, London with Big Ben, and Shanghai with the Oriental Pearl Tower. In this vlog I try and find points in downtown Detroit that give the best bird's eye views of the downtown area. I try and find if for the most part lacking. Join me in my search for what Detroit has to offer TODAY and what it has to offer in the near future in the selection of viewpoints of the Motor City. Detroit is within a few years of getting this major upgrade on observation points ....have a look.
As I write this it occurs to me that I left out perhaps one of the best views of Detroit and that it from Windsor Ontario Canada, just across the Detroit River. The view is superb of the Detroit Skyline but it is not a bird's eye view so in theory it is not eligible but I suppose I could have gone to the top of Windsor's Caesar's Palace Casino for a view. Anyway was left out. So let's talk about what was included....no let's leave that for the video. I do want to say however that while the selection of observation points at this point is somewhat limited there are some major upgrades coming in the next few years. One of these particularly with put Detroit into big city territory.

Historic churches, theatres, and commercial buildings anchor the various downtown districts. Downtown has a number of parks including those linked by a promenade along the International Riverfront. Its central square is Campus Martius Park. In recent years the downtown area has seen tremendous growth and redevelopment. Since 2000 a number of major construction projects have been completed including the new Compuware Headquarters at Campus Martius Park and two new stadiums: Comerica Park and Ford Field. General Motors moved their headquarters into the Renaissance Center, and the Detroit Lions have relocated from Pontiac to Downtown Detroit. High-profile events like the 2005 MLB All-Star Game, Super Bowl XL, and the 2006 and 2012 World Series have taken place in downtown, generating income for local businesses and spurring more growth.[1] As a result, new residents are moving into Detroit in the assortment of new lofts that are opening. An example of these trends is the Westin Book-Cadillac Hotel. In 2006, the Cleveland-based Ferchill Group began the $180 million redevelopment of the historic Book Cadlliac Hotel at the corner of Washington Blvd. and Michigan Avenue. The project, which has been hailed by preservationists houses a 455-room Westin Hotel, 67 high-end condominiums, and two to three restaurants, and some miscellaneous retail serving hotel and conference center guests. DTE Energy Headquarters features an urban oasis of parks, walkways, and a reflecting pool.
In 2007, Downtown Detroit was named among the best big city neighborhoods in which to retire by CNN Money Magazine editors.[3] Downtown contains popular destinations including, the International Riverfront, the MGM Grand Detroit, Greektown Casino Hotel, and many sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The J.L. Hudson Building (Hudson's) was a department store located at 1206 Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit, Michigan. It was constructed beginning in 1911, with additions throughout the years, before being completed in 1946, and named after the company's founder, Joseph Lowthian Hudson. Hudson's first building on the site opened in 1891 but was demolished in 1923 for a new structure. It was the flagship store for the Hudson's chain. The building was demolished in a controlled demolition on October 24, 1998, with many people watching from Hart Plaza (Detroit) and Dieppe Gardens (Windsor, Ontario). It was the tallest building ever imploded. That will now be replaced by this:

DETROIT SPORTS SCENE: Lions Tigers Red Wings Pistons – 4K – Vlog no. 14
Detroit Sport Scene: Lions Tigers Red Wings Pistons – 4K – Vlog no. 14
My vlog is about Detroit, America’s Great Comeback City and the third factor that I identify to support this claim is the presence of all of Detroit’s profession teams – the Detroit Lions of the NFL, the Detroit Tigers of MLB, the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL and the Detroit Pistons of the NBA all now play downtown within blocks of each other. This is a claim to fame that only Detroit can tout. And this only came to pass last year when the Detroit Pisons were the last to see the light that the professional teams belong downtown in a rejuvenated downtown.
The Detroit Lions are a professional American football team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Lions compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league's National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The team plays its home games at Ford Field in Downtown Detroit.
Originally based in Portsmouth, Ohio and called the Portsmouth Spartans, the team formally joined the NFL on July 12, 1930 and began play in the 1930 season.[1] Despite success within the NFL, they could not survive in Portsmouth, then the NFL's smallest city. The team was purchased and relocated to Detroit for the 1934 season.
The Lions have won four NFL championships, tied for 9th overall in total championships amongst all 32 NFL franchises; however, their last was in 1957, which gives the club the second-longest NFL championship drought behind the Arizona Cardinals. They are one of four current teams and the only NFC team to have not yet played in the Super Bowl.[5]
The Detroit Tigers are an American professional baseball team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Tigers compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central division. One of the AL's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Detroit in 1901. They are the oldest continuous one-name, one-city franchise in the AL.[4] The Tigers have won four World Series championships (1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984), 11 AL pennants (1907, 1908, 1909, 1934, 1935, 1940, 1945, 1968, 1984, 2006, 2012), and four AL Central division championships (2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014). The Tigers also won division titles in 1972, 1984 and 1987 while members of the AL East. The team currently plays its home games at Comerica Park in Downtown Detroit.
The Tigers constructed Bennett Park at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Trumbull Avenue in Corktown (just west of Downtown Detroit) and began playing there in 1901. In 1912, the team moved into Navin Field, which was built on the same location. It was expanded in 1938 and renamed Briggs Stadium. It was renamed Tiger Stadium in 1961 and the Tigers played there until moving to Comerica Park in 2000.
The Detroit Red Wings are a professional ice hockey team based in Detroit. They are members of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL)[3] and are one of the Original Six teams of the league.[4] Founded in 1926, the team was known as the Detroit Cougars from then until 1930. For the 1930–31 and 1931–32 seasons the team was called the Detroit Falcons, and in 1932 changed their name to the Red Wings.[5]
As of 2018, the Red Wings have won the most Stanley Cup championships of any NHL franchise based in the United States (11)[6] and are third overall in total Stanley Cup championships, behind the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13). The Wings played their home games at Joe Louis Arenafrom 1979 until 2017, after having spent over 40 years playing in Olympia Stadium. They moved into Little Caesars Arena during the 2017–18 season. The Red Wings are one of the most popular franchises in the NHL, and fans and commentators refer to Detroit and its surrounding areas as Hockeytown, which has been a registered trademark owned by the franchise since 1996.[7]
Between the 1933–34 and 1965–66 seasons, the Red Wings missed the playoffs only four times. Between the 1966–67 and 1982–83 seasons, the Red Wings made the playoffs only two times. However, since then they have made the playoffs in 30 of the last 33 seasons (starting in 1983–84), including 25 in a row from 1990–91 to 2015–16—at the time, the longest streak of postseason appearances in all of North American professional sports. Since 1983–84, they have tallied six regular season first-place finishes and have won the Stanley Cup four times in six Finals appearances.
The Detroit Pistons are an American professional basketball team based in Detroit, Michigan. The Pistons compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league's Eastern ConferenceCentral Division.
