Denpasar - capital of Bali, Indonesia
English subs available!
For over a century, Bali has fascinated the Western imagination. The island embodies the very essence of the exotic and mysterious East. Steep hillsides of tropical green reveal terraced rice paddies while plantations of coffee, banana, cacao and fragrant spices line the roads. Monkeys haunt the grounds of a sacred temple in a forest, while traditional villages produce intricately stylized batik, superb jewelry and beautiful paintings. And Balinese dance, with its angular movements and rhythms, remains somehow stirring and shocking. Bali may be accessible, but it remains forever exotic.
Tour from the ship. Description:
Feel the artistic pulse of Bali with this five-hour guided excursion that takes you on an arts and crafts adventure through Denpasar and its surroundings villages. There will be a moderate amount of walking so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.
After boarding your motorcoach, you'll head southwest along the coast. Looking out toward the sparkling waters of the Badung Straight, you'll see the small island of Nusa Penida, home to a bird sanctuary for endangered Balinese and Indonesian bird species, including the critically endangered Bali starling.
After arriving in Denpasar you may be surprised at the hustle and bustle; it is, after all, Bali's capital city with a population of over 500,000 and a thriving economy. Denpasar, which means next to the market, is aptly named.
Being the center of city in the Island there is one of Center Temple name Jagatnatha Temple Dedicated for main God by Hindu in Denpasar . Although it may look like it's been sitting there for centuries it was actually built in the mid-20th century but its symbolism and holiness is just as sacred as those you'll find throughout the country. Across from the temple you can see Puputan Square, which commemorates the suicidal battle of the Badung rajahs against the Dutch militia in 1906.
Next, you'll tour the Museum Negeri Propinsi Bali, more commonly known as the Bali Museum. Inside this stunning example of Balinese architecture you'll find five pavilions filled with over 10,500 exhibits spread out over 28,000 square feet.
Move further from Denpasar to the east there is Art and Traditional Market of Sukawati , the largest Art Market in Bali . Here, you'll find stalls filled with produce of carving, painting, clothing, costumes, household items, and gold and silver jewelry. Haggling and bartering is expected so feel free to join in.
Now, it's on to more shopping in the village of Celuk, known as the gold and silversmith capital of Bali. During your visit you can shop for jewelry in one of the many markets that line the village before we continue our trip to Kemenuh the near by Village.
In the Village. After a warm welcome, you'll be treated to a cup of coffee accompanied with a slice of kue. Sometimes sweet and sometimes savory, this cake is made with 20 thin layers of different flavors and stacked on top of each other and steamed or fried.
Your final stop is the village of Tohpati, considered the center of Balinese hand weaving and handmade batik prints. The roots of batik date back 2,000 years but it was the Balinese who turned it into an art form. After you disembark, you'll tour a local batik factory and watch the entire process ? from stamping the fabric with wax, to dyeing and finally, the finished product.
At the conclusion of your tour, you'll reboard your coach and travel back to your waiting ship.

Travel Vlog - Bali, Indonesia
09/16/16 - 09/21/16
we had a connecting flight from Philipines - Singapore - Bali.
arrived late at Ngurah Rai International Airport/Denpasar International Airport. had our transfer going to The Sun Hotel in Legian.
it was hard to schedule a city tour because they were celebrating Pratipada Shraddha as per some local, it's a ceremony practiced in Hinduism. So we spent our 1st and 2nd day in Bali loitering around Legian checking some stuff, shopping, and swimming. As for me, I took a surfing lesson for an hour and a half.
Day 3, Ubud and Tanah Lot Sunset Tours:
we visited Sari Amerta in Tohpati Village famous for Batik clothing... Semara Dharma in Celuk for gold and silver smiths.. Dewa Putu Toris in Batuan known for paintings... Karya Mas in Mas for wood carvings.. we went to Bebek Joni Rice Farm in Ubud for lunch then went to ubud palace and ubud market for some souvenir. A tip from our our guide - most sellers markup their prices to foreigners - so learn to haggle atleast half... after that, we went to Alas Kedaton Monkey Forest then to Tanah Lot to withness the sunset.. after that very beautiful sunset we went to Seaside Cafe in Jimbaran for our seafood dinner by the bay.
Day 4: Mawar Kuning Dive & Marine Sports in Nusa Dua for some water activities. We also visited the Turtle Farm in Tanjung Benoa.
Day 5: going home! another layover in Changi Airport, Singapore before we took off to Naia, Philippines.

Behind The Taste - Megibung Karangasem with Chef Penelope Williams
Visiting one village to another village and joined Balinese people to prepare foods for ceremonies helped Penelope WIlliams, an Australian chef to understand Balinese cultures and cuisines as its best. Especially to understand megibung, a dining tradition that was created by Karangasem king on 15th of century to end the war between Bali and Lombok..
This August, Chef Penny invited Chef Ari from Swissbel Hotel Rainforest Kuta for wandering a traditional market in Karangasem and her garden at her stunning restaurant, Bali Asli where she gets the ingredients to prepare #MegibungKarangasem event at Swissbel Hotel Kuta.

Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia
October 9, 2018
Batik, a technique of wax-resist dyeing of dots, lines, and other drawings applied to a whole cloth, is identified as a traditional Indonesian textile commonly used today in prestigious events.
In Bali, Indonesia, a village in the Denpasar area has become famous for its Balinese batik crafts known as the Bali Bidadari Batik, which earned the reputation as the best go-to spot in Bali when it comes to batik-shopping.
The place offers an actual demonstration of making batiks where visitors could also request for customized designs. It has a shop that sells high-end batik materials like wallets, dresses, shirts, and slippers, among others. Although the items could be a bit pricey for budget-tight travellers, they are nevertheless worth the price as it guarantees to be hand-made items of good quality.
