Saturday Skiing at Stowe | March 2nd 2019
I'm still working on editing one more day of Colorado skiing, but in the meantime, Rob and I went to Stowe for a fun day of sunny groomed runs off mostly the Sensation Quad. Pretty soon the snow will melt, and I will post videos of my other hobbies, but in the meantime, March is usually Vermont's snowiest ski month. Is there a powder day in my future? Toll Road Hearing Monday September 22nd in Del Mar
WHAT: A public hearing regarding the toll road proposal through San Onofre State Beach. Throngs of toll road opponents gathering to ensure the Federal Government upholds the decision made by the California Coastal Commission: no toll roads through state parks!
WHEN: Monday September 22, 2008. The hearing is from 10:30am-8:30pm. Of course, we would like everyone to attend all day (take a sick day, like the rest of us: ) or come for at least a few hours.
WHERE: O'Brien Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. Del Mar, CA 92014. Just off the I-5 in Del Mar at Via de la Valle exit.

Ned Gillette, Adventure Skier, and Historical Badass in Stowe, VT
In 1998, Ned was shot and killed, during a botched robbery, while sleeping in a tent in Kashmir. His wife, Suzy Patterson, United States Women's champion in slalom, was also shot and recovered.
Ned was captain of the Dartmouth College ski team and a noncompeting substitute on the 1968 United States Olympic team in cross-country skiing. He later headed the ski touring program at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt., and wrote instructional books on skiing. His greatest love was doing things no one else had done and perhaps not even imagined. In 1978, he led an expedition that climbed the base of Mount McKinley in Alaska not vertically, but horizontally. In 1981 and 1982, he made a similar trip around Mount Everest.
In 1988, he and three others became the first to row from the tip of South America to Antarctica through the 600-mile Drake Passage, considered by mariners to be the most treacherous body of water in the world. Their specially built 28-foot aluminum boat, Sea Tomato, overturned several times during the 14-day trip.
In 1993, he and his wife rode camels 6,000 miles on the old Silk Road from China to the Mediterranean Sea.
