Things To Know Before You Go To Arches National Park (PART 3)
Things To Know Before You Go To Arches National Park Utah
Hey you guys! Thanks for joining us on another journey. This week, we are still at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. It was freezing cold! We set out on the trail in Devil's Garden to Landscape Arch and then continued on the Primitive Trail which loops out to Double O Arch. We put cramp-ons to help trek the parts of the trail with snow and ice. The Primitive Trail is no joke; it's very difficult hiking. I like the fact that it is like we're totally out in Mother Nature. April had a challenging time, and referenced her past experiences of slipping & falling. We got to see Partition Arch. Don't forget your camel bags; even though it is so cold, you go through the water at the higher elevation and in the desert. I really enjoyed Navajo Arch. More than a few times, we had a hard time telling where the trail went. I pointed out why you wear hiking boots in that kind of terrain. While this trail definitely had some treacherous parts, it was incredibly beautiful! I tried to help April best maneuver the icy parts. Alvin and Rachel saved us because we had gotten off the trail; they pulled up Google Maps. Double O Arch was very cool. I gave a goofy travel tip about a banana. April contemplated again about how this journey combines her two worst fears. I agreed that there were certainly edgy spots along the way. Alvin had a moment of some difficulty getting down from a point that wasn't on the trail. Make sure to follow Cairns when on a primitive trail; it's the natural markings to keep you headed in the right direction. AllTrails is a good app to use. April got herself lost for a time, so I had to go find her. Thank you for watching my video all the way to the end!

The Voices of Bears Ears — Ep. 2: The Archaeologists
Layers of history and culture are visible on the landscape of Bears Ears National Monument in southeastern Utah. Thousands of fragile sites are spread across the rugged backcountry. Each artifact tells a centuries-old story that is part of a longer narrative with deep meaning for the area’s indigenous people.
Visit with respect and “with a good feeling in your heart,” as you’ll hear from Jonathan Till, archeologist and curator and Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum, and Nate Thomas, archaeologist with the Bureau of Land Management.

We share all sorts of sights and sounds around Padre Island and its namesake National Seashore in this episode, including camping at Padre Balli County Park and boondocking right on the sand at North Beach, which should be a bucket list camping experience for any beach lover or surf fisherman. We also go kayaking on Laguna Madre at Bird Island Basin, and visit the bayside city of Corpus Christi, and Port Aransas on adjacent Mustang Island, where they're still recovering from Hurricane Harvey's landfall two years later. But we start off with an interview with the king and queen of Texas camping, Tom & Stacie Langland from @RVTexasYall.

Lectures in Entrepreneurship: Joe Brandl - February 1, 2017
Joe Brandl has worked for years honing his expertise of primitive bushcraft skills. His many years as a Boy Scout leader, vast experience as a hunter and wilderness adventurer, and his expertise in tanning animal hides have transformed him into a warehouse of knowledge and skills. In 1988, he began to operate a small tannery at the feet of the Wind River Range in Dubois, Wyoming. Since then, Absaroka Western Designs and Tannery has grown into a large tannery facility and showroom, producing western décor for homes, lodges, and businesses.
His love for the outdoors guided him to attend the University of Nebraska where he obtained a B.S. in Natural Resources and Wildlife Management. Joe's expertise also led him to be the oldest participant to survive the 21-day challenge on Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid.

How to use Google Maps Offline – Trail Navigation Tip
It is essential to have a good map with you when you hit the trail. If you want to use your smart phone, you will often find yourself in remote locations with no reception. That’s where Google maps can be very beneficial. In this video I discuss how to load maps in Google maps for off line use.

Gospel of The Kingdom
In this video, we trace the origins of the word “gospel” and how it ties the story of the Old Testament together with the story of Jesus and his announcement of God’s kingdom. Jesus brought God’s rule and reign to the world in a very upside-down way, which is the best news you could ask for.

Warlock - FREE WESTERN MOVIE | Henry Fonda | Full Length Film | English | Free Full Movie
Free Western Movie, Full Length Cowboy Film, English: Warlock is a 1959 American western film directed by Edward Dmytryk and starring Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn and Dorothy Malone. The film is both set and filmed in Utah, including at Dead Horse Point State Park, Arches National Park, Professor Valley in Moab as well as White's Ranch - Milepost 14 Utah Hwy 128, Moab (which was also a set for a number of other western films from the same era). The picture is an adaptation of the novel Warlock by American author Oakley Hall.
Fonda portrays Clay Blaisedell, a freelance marshal in the fictional town of Warlock with implacable methods of dealing with troublemakers. A subplot centers on Blaisedell's club-footed assistant, Tom Morgan, played by Quinn, who has sublimated his relationships and ambition into a warped devotion to Blaisedell, the only person Morgan thinks does not look down on him for his disability.
As in the earlier film Wichita (1955), the conflict of the law with the outlaw runs parallel to the resentment of the town's own leadership.

-율법을 가진 유대인의 죄 (The Sins of the Jews with the Law)-

Angels Landing Scariest Hike In America | Best Time To Go To Angels Landing Zion National Park
Best Time To Go To Angels Landing Zion National Park
Hey you guys! Thanks for joining us on another journey. This week, we were at Zion National Park with April's daughter, Autumn. Travel tip for you...if you're not super early to park your vehicle in the park, a good place to park just outside is Hoodoos Market. For $20 worth of groceries or trinkets, you can park there all day. Better than the $22 or more elsewhere. We set off on the Angels Landing hike. I reminisced about when April & I were there a year ago and I was brainstorming about whether or not I should become a travel vlogger. Despite all of the hours & hours we put into it, we have fun with it. You may want to give up on this hike, more than once, but keep going...it's worth it. Another travel tip; come to Zion in the late fall. There won't be as many people and it won't be so blazing hot. April kind of freaked out when the chain went away for a time--that was her lifeline. Autumn decided to stop (where many others also chose to stop), but on April pressed. She had another moment when she wasn't sure about continuing, but she forged ahead. I was a classic jerk and laughed at her crawling along. ;-) She even slid along on her butt in a couple of sections. (She asked a few hikers to kick my ass for her, hahaha.) She is very afraid of heights and doesn't have the best balance, but she kept on keeping on! And she made it!! This is a once in a lifetime hike, my favorite hike. It took us about an hour and a half to do a mile. Autumn shared her chipmunk encounter stories while she was waiting for us. I told her I would've shrieked if one came on my lap, then we all try out our echoes in the canyon, including a blip from The Three Amigos by a couple of fellow hikers. April had to do her own version of preaching this time because she was so jazzed after conquering her fears and making it to the end of Angels Landing. She reminded us we need to enjoy the journey--life is all about that, and not the destination. Travel has helped her grow more. And like we so often do, we found ourselves getting pie & ice cream afterwards. But not before April & Autumn had free samples of fudge. As we were heading back to the car, we came across Elliott the deer who eats out of humans' hands. It was so cool to be so close to such a regal animal. Thank you for watching my videos every Thursday and for subscribing; we appreciate it!

Words at War: Lifeline / Lend Lease Weapon for Victory / The Navy Hunts the CGR 3070
The United States Merchant Marine is the fleet of U.S. civilian-owned merchant vessels, operated by either the government or the private sector, that engage in commerce or transportation of goods and services in and out of the navigable waters of the United States. The Merchant Marine is responsible for transporting cargo and passengers during peace time. In time of war, the Merchant Marine is an auxiliary to the Navy, and can be called upon to deliver troops and supplies for the military.
Merchant mariners move cargo and passengers between nations and within the United States, operate and maintain deep-sea merchant ships, tugboats, towboats, ferries, dredges, excursion vessels, and other waterborne craft on the oceans, the Great Lakes, rivers, canals, harbors, and other waterways.
As of 2006, the United States merchant fleet numbered 465 ships[2] and approximately 100,000 members. Seven hundred ships owned by American interests but registered, or flagged, in other countries are not included in this number.
The federal government maintains fleets of merchant ships via organizations such as Military Sealift Command and the National Defense Reserve Fleet. In 2004, the federal government employed approximately 5% of all American water transportation workers.[3]
In the 19th and 20th centuries, various laws fundamentally changed the course of American merchant shipping. These laws put an end to common practices such as flogging and shanghaiing, and increased shipboard safety and living standards. The United States Merchant Marine is also governed by several international conventions to promote safety and prevent pollution.
The merchant marine is a civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Navy, but not a uniformed service, except in times of war when, in accordance with the Merchant Marine Act of 1936, mariners are considered military personnel. In a time of national emergency, the President can permanently seize any merchant marine vessel in return for fair compensation, or commandeer it for temporary use with no compensation if returned in reasonable condition.
Mariners are well represented in the visual arts. Merchant seaman Johnny Craig was already a working comic book artist before he joined up, but Ernie Schroeder would not start drawing comics until after returning home from World War II. Seaman Haskell Wexler won two Academy Awards, the latter for a biography of his shipmate Woody Guthrie.
Merchant sailors have also made a splash in the world of sport. Drew Bundini Brown was Muhammad Ali's assistant trainer and cornerman, and Joe Gold went made his fortune as the bodybuilding and fitness guru of Gold's Gym. In football, Dan Devine and Heisman Trophy winner Frank Sinkwich excelled. Seamen Jim Bagby, Jr. and Charlie Keller played in Major League Baseball. In track and field, seamen Cornelius Johnson and Jim Thorpe both won Olympic medals, though Thorpe did not get his until thirty years after his death.
Writers Richard Henry Dana, Jr., Ralph Ellison, Herman Melville, and Jack Vance and were merchant mariners, as were prominent members of the Beat movement: Allen Ginsberg, Herbert Huncke, Bob Kaufman, Jack Kerouac, and Dave Van Ronk. Peter Baynham, the coauthor of the film Borat, and Donn Pearce, who wrote the movie Cool Hand Luke, were formerly merchant mariners. Filmmaker Oliver Stone won multiple Academy Awards.
WWII-era merchant mariners played well-known television characters. The list includes Raymond Bailey (who played Milburn Drysdale on The Beverly Hillbillies); Peter Falk (who played the title character on Columbo); James Garner (who played Jim Rockford on The Rockford Files); Jack Lord (who played Steve McGarrett on the original Hawaii Five-0); Carroll O'Connor (who played Archie Bunker on All in the Family); Denver Pyle (who played Uncle Jesse Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard); and Clint Walker (who played Cheyenne Bodie on Cheyenne).
Songwriter and lyricist Jack Lawrence was a mariner during World War II and wrote the official United States Merchant Marine song, Heave Ho! My Lads, Heave Ho! while a young lieutenant stationed at Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, in 1943.
Writer/businessman Robert Kiyosaki claimed to have been a mariner.
Paul Teutul, Sr., the founder of Orange County Choppers and Orange County Ironworks, was a merchant mariner during the Vietnam War.
