TONGLU village is named after one of the higher peaks on the Singalila Ridge. It is located inside the Singalila National Park in the Darjeeling subdivision of the district, near the India-Nepal border. The trek through a forest in the eastern Himalayas, a panoramic view of snow-covered peaks such as the Kanchenjungha, Pandim and the Makalu, a picturesque trekkers’ hut and solitude — Tonglu promises much and delivers for the most part. The sun rise behind the Kanchenjungha range is a magnificent sight. The play of colours on the snow-capped peaks is worth getting up at the crack of dawn.
Dhotrey is a small settlement at 2700mts situated in the subhimmalayan Bengal. is a perfect location for starting the trek to Sandakphu. It is located 11 Km from Darjeeling between Manebhanjan and Rimbik. Dhotre offers a beautiful trek to Tonglu through an exquisite forest trail thus letting us avoid the conventional trek from Manebhanjan. One can enjoy a terrific view of the pristine Kanchendzonga range on a clear day and the majetic range stays by your side all through the trek as you climb from Dhotre to Tonglu.
DAY 1
NJP TO DHOTREY
Arrival at NJP railway station. Proceed for dhotrey (2700mts). Enroute we will have our breakfast and lunch at local restaurants. This journey will take approx. 5 hrs. We will reach Dhotrey by afternoon. Evening free to explore and experience the beautiful dhotrey village. Overnight stay at Trekkers hut. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
DAY 2
DHOTREY TO TONGLU TREK
After early breakfast start a easy to moderate trek of 4-5 hours to Tonglu. It is around 3070 meters above the sea level. The peak and the surrounding areas are tranquil. It is the perfect place to meditate in. Overnight stay at Trekkers hut. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)
DAY 3
TONGLU TO DHOTREY TREK AND NJP VIA CAR
After early breakfast start trek to Dhotrey By afternoon reach at Dhotrey. After lunch proceed towards NJP by car. Trek ends at Siliguri. (Breakfast/lunch/dinner)

TONGLU IN 4K
Tonglu is the one of the higher peaks of the Singalila Ridge and a small settlement inside the Singalila National Park in the Darjeeling subdivision, Darjeeling district in the state of West Bengal in India near the India - Nepal border. It is a roadside halt along the trekking route from Manebhanjan to Sandakphu.
Tonglu is a small settlement and a mountain hamlet along the route to Sandakphu and located in Darjeeling district. This is usually where the trekkers halt for the first night at the GTA (Gorkha Territorial Administration) lodge. There is also a District Magistrate's (DM's) Bungalow which can also be booked through DM's office in Darjeeling and Siliguri. Tonglu is about 2kms from Meghma and it takes about 1 hour trek to reach the GTA lodge from Meghma.
Take a overnight train from Kolkata to Siliguri (other option is to fly to Bagdogra). From there, it is a four-hour drive to Dhotre and a further four-hour trek on the same day will take you to Tonglu. The trekkers' huts can be booked from the DGHC counter in Kolkata, New Delhi, Siliguri or Darjeeling. A single bed will cost you INR Rs.100 (USD $2) and a room with four beds for USD $8. Foods are available from the caretaker's kitchen with a nominal price.

If you are not able to trek or don't want to, you can in fact relax and equally enjoy the magnificent views of Sandakphu. Just take a Jeep safari. While Sandakphu is traditionally known as a trekking destination, jeep safaris to the Sandakphu - Phalut ridge are increasingly becoming popular.

Tonglu is one of the higher peaks of Singalila Ridge and small settlement inside the #Singalila National Park in Darjeeling district near #India #Nepal border. It's elevation is 3070 meters. We had a fantastic experience in this trip. We were lucky enough to see the Mount Everest & Kanchenjanga Family. We also had a glimpse of beautiful sunrise and sunset throughout the trip.

The next day's march from Tonglu to Gairibas (2621 mt) is downhill. The distance is about 9 km and it is 2/3 hrs of walk. Gairibas to Kalipokhri (3170 mt) is continuous climb through the rhododendron forest. Distance is 6 km and it takes 3/4 hrs of walk from Gairibas. There is a small pond at Kalipokhri which means 'Blackpond'. The colour of the water is black and muddy and it never freezes (but we found it frozen in December :) ). From Kalipokhri the road descends to Bikhaybhanjyang. Bikhaybhanjyang to Sandakphu is a steep climb of 4 kms. and takes few hours to cover this stretch. Accomodation is also available at Bikhaybhanjyang and Gairibas. There is a trekkers hut at Gairibas.
