RV LIVING-TOURING SAN FRANCISCO-GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE-LOMBARD STREET-CLIFF HOUSE-RV CALIFORNIA-EP71
TOURING SAN FRANCISCO, GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE, LOMBARD STREET, CLIFF HOUSE, FORT FUNSTON AND SUTRO TOWERS IN ONE DAY!
Sue and I connected with old High School friends that have lived in an eastern suburb of San Francisco for over 30 years. Our friends, Ray & Peaches had cooked up a whirlwind day of touring to all of the must view sites in and around the entire city. We started at 10am and didn't quit till 10pm. We did the tourist trap stuff down at the wharf the first time we were here. This time, it was just site seeing and enjoying the pure beauty of this large, historic and fascinating city.

Narrated sightseeing drive, 52 blocks of San Francisco
You are visiting from out of town, we hop in the car, wander around and see some sights (some touristy, some not). We'll follow Mississippi Street to 7th Street to Leavenworth Street, passing through the neighborhoods of Potrero Hill, Mission Bay, SoMa, Civic Center, Tenderloin, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, and Fisherman's Wharf. About 52 blocks in all, give or take, depending upon what you consider a block. Occasionally we'll teleport out of the car and take some side trips.
This started out as a regular drivelapse but somehow along the way morphed into a full driving tour, kind of a drivelapse-travelogue hybrid. Two cameras on board, plus GPS, and a chatty driver.
I'd be interested in any feedback on the closed captions, if you used them. It is maddeningly difficult to do anything remotely sophisticated with closed captions on YouTube because their closed caption implementation has tons of bugs and doesn't interpret most industry-standard captions correctly.

Alcatraz Island - America's 1st SuperMax (HD)
Alcatraz Island - America's 1st SuperMax Federal Penitentiary. USP Alcatraz is infamous in American folklore. Alcatraz or The Rock was used by the Federal Government to confine the most aggressive and or dangerous inmates in the federal system from 1934 to 1963. Some of the most well known inmates held at Alcatraz include; Al Capone, George Machine Gun Kelly, Arthur Doc Barker, Robert Stroud The Birdman, and Alvin Karpis (America's 1st Public Enemy #1).
During its time of operation, Alcatraz housed a total of 1,576 prisoners. There were 14 separate escape attempts over the 29 years tried by 36 men. None are believed to have succeeded. Of the 36 men, 23 were caught, 6 were shot and killed, and 2 drowned in San Francisco Bay. The remaining 5 inmates were never seen again and are officially listed as missing and presumed drowned or dead. Three of these 5 inmates were made famous in the Clint Eastwood movie Escape from Alcatraz. The inmates portrayed in that movie were Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin.
Alcatraz was state of the art when it opened in 1934 and was designed to enforce strict controls over the inmate population assigned there. The prison was located on an isolated island located approximately 1 and ¼ mile from the nearest shore in San Francisco Bay. The frigid cold water and strong currents made the success of escape unlikely. During its first years of operation, inmates were not allowed to speak to each other. Alcatraz was designed as a maximum security institution. Listening devices were strategically placed throughout the prison to monitor any communication by the inmates. Armed officers were stationed throughout the island in several guard towers and even in elevated gun galleries located above the walkways within the cell block. Tear Gas canisters were affixed to the ceiling in the Dining Hall as a security measure to control the inmate population in the event of an emergency situation or conflict during meal times.
In addition to the main cell house, administrative building, and light house, Alcatraz Island also contained several other buildings and structures. Many officers and their families lived in apartments on the island as well as the institution's Warden, who lived in the Warden's House which was located just next to the light house. The island also contained a Rifle Range for the officers, an Officer's Club, a huge water tank (containing over 1,000,000 gallons of fresh water), a Prison Morgue, a Prison Industries Building (UNICOR Factory), a Chapel, an Infirmary, and much more.
Quick Facts
Alcatraz -- Originally named Alcatraces by founder Juan Manuel de Ayala in 1775.
1850 -- 1933 -- Alcatraz owned and operated by U.S. Army, 1st as a fortified military site then as a disciplinary barracks. Site of the 1st Operational Lighthouse on the West Coast.
1934 -- 1963 -- Alcatraz transferred to U.S. Department of Justice for use as a Maximum Security Federal Penitentiary. USP Alcatraz is born and operates for 29 years.
1969 -- 1971 -- Native American Occupation of Alcatraz Island. While the occupation of Alcatraz may have aided in helping the Native American Indian Tribes achieve a public platform and national press for their causes (the treatment of Native Americans and the government's possession of tribal lands), the effects of that occupation, resulted in much damage and destruction to the island itself. Vandalism and graffiti to this historical landmark are a direct result of this action. Multiple fires on the island, started by unruly protesters, destroyed the Warden's Home, Officer's Club, and Lighthouse Keeper's House.
1972 -- Alcatraz was transferred to the National Parks Service
1973 -- Alcatraz opened to the public. First tour group arrives. Since opening for public tours, Alcatraz has become a very popular tourist attraction. Over 1,000,000 people visit The Rock every year.

San Francisco's Famed Coit Tower Murals in Peril Due to Fog, Neglect
In San Francisco's Coit Tower, historic murals by 25 significant artists depicting life in California in the early 1930s have fallen into disrepair for a variety of reasons, including a lack of security, funding problems and the city's famous fog. Correspondent Spencer Michels reports on efforts to preserve the famed frescoes.

6/24/17 kill attempt of SF, USA disabled Veteran of 3 heart attacks by tourist Hostel & SF Hilton
Live uncut, unedited 6/24/17 attempted murder by young Black thugs in athletic gear & their pit bull dog (which should never be owned by malevolent or irresponsible persons) on a disabled elderly Caucasian USA Veteran in a suit jacket with a white beard who has had 3 heart attacks, in the racist / biased Winton Hotel, 445 O'Farrell St., SF, CA 94102 (championed by SF Mayor Ed Lee in the last month or so, but whose office does not respond now), as one of the 100% Black desk-clerks refuses to dial 911 (and as you can see in the video, seems to instigate the vicious thugs to traumatize, or even kill they're clearly intended victim; indeed, this may have been a paid hit by the manager or landlords , whom the disabled elderly Vet has properly complained to and whistle-blown about the terrible conditions the tenants have had to suffer under since day 1 about 6 months ago [reminiscent of last year's Best Picture Oscar winner Spotlight , it is clear the entire VA, THC, SF and Federal Housing SYSTEMS need to be investigated, and just as the film points out, held to account, and overhauled]; the disabled elderly Vet then called 911, but had to escape with his life, and it remains unclear if the SFPD ever came) as it seems ONLY Black Lives Matter in the Winton and the aforementioned overseeing organizations. It is one of the many evilly-designed hotels in SF that forces the residents to go to 1 of 2 bathrooms (per floor, for 30 residents per floor) down the hall (while even prisoners get their own toilet). As a consequence, as any 3-yr-old child could tell you, any thug can wait for any vulnerable disabled elderly Vet in the hall to harass, threaten, rob, assault, or even kill them at any time, and their desk-clerk cohorts watching on the monitor system can call their partners-in-crime when an elderly Vet has gone into a bathroom or shower-room (which have no peep holes on them for their own safety, though requested 6 months ago, so such a disabled elderly Vet can call 911 -- not the corrupt desk-clerks, who, like the corrupt Property Manager, and his corrupt Assistant, and the corrupt 3 faux case- workers [still covering up the identity of the thugs so no restraining order can be gotten], who seem to make up the petite 25-yr-old type in the Harem he seems to maintain in his immediate area, can't even be trusted to collect the rent by the THC [Tenderloin Housing Clinic] -- if that vulnerable Vet sees a suspicious person standing right outside the door). Dianne Feinstein has refused to even VIEW this video. The crime was not reported to police until at least a week after when the elderly Vet submitted the video to them himself, as, like the BART system, it seems a large % of the 50 cameras that are supposedly always recording in the Winton Hotel are fake dummies. (In the last 5 months, the staff has produced many lies, but never any video, and the THC, who runs the building, and the VA seem to naively just accept the lies they're told, rather than ask for actual evidence.) As of 8/2/17 at 3a.m. there's still been no action. The elderly Vet needs legal representation in this famous hotel of horrors that's been sued many times the elderly Vet was not told about, but discovered after he was forced by the VA to move in with his HUD-VASH voucher. When the elderly Vet contacts HUD-VASH Personnel, they seem as terrified as he does at confronting all the issues above, and never get back to him.
Las Vegas Travel Guide | California Travel Tips
California Travel Tips host Veronica Hill shares her Las Vegas Travel Guide in this episode of California Travel Tips.
Hosting almost 37 million visitors per year (26 percent from Southern California), Las Vegas is one of America's top destinations.
With an 89 percent occupancy rate, Las Vegas hotel rooms are sometimes in short supply, especially on holiday weekends. Most big-name Las Vegas hotels such as Bellagio, Luxor, and MGM Grand are located along Las Vegas Boulevard between Tropicana and Sahara Avenues. If money is no object, check into the Wynn Las Vegas, a $2.7 billion-dollar resort with some of the most luxurious touches in town.
If you're looking for cheap Las Vegas hotels, stay off the strip. We're staying at the Orleans Las Vegas, a hidden gem off Tropicana that offers some amazing Las Vegas deals.
By day, Vegas takes on a whole new vibe, sort of like a Disneyland for grown-ups. Head to the top of the Las Vegas Stratosphere, the tallest observation tower in the West; ride the Manhattan Express roller coaster at New York, New York Casino; check out the Mandalay Bay Shark Exhibit, or take in the dolphin show at Mirage. For a romantic outing, board a Venetian gondola for a cruise through the Venetian Grand Canals.
The Venetian Las Vegas casino has authentically recreated every nuance of Italian life, from the high-end boutiques at the Grand Canal Shops to the faithful recreation of St. Mark's Square. You'll find several nice Las Vegas restaurants here as well, from Mario Batali's Enoteca San Marco to Wolfgang Puck's Postrio.
Las Vegas is busy on most weekends and holidays, so if you really want to avoid the crowds, come the week before Christmas. You'll be rewarded with some of the cheapest room rates of the year.
We're starting our Saturday morning with a Las Vegas wedding at Paris Las Vegas, followed by a lovely lunch at Mon Ami Gabi. And after a few glasses of wine, and some terrific French cuisine, we hit the town. Just so you know, Las Vegas weddings are most popular in February, for obvious reasons, so be sure you book them well in advance. Elvis Presley married Priscilla Beaulieu at the Aladdin, now known as Planet Hollywood.
For a spectacular birds-eye view of Las Vegas, ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Towering 50 stories above the Las Vegas Strip, the experience is offered both day and night. In fact, you can even get married up here!
One of our favorite free Las Vegas attractions is the Bellagio Fountains Water Show, which begins every half hour during the day, and every 15 minutes at night. For the best views, grab a seat at one of the restaurants along the lake, then finish with a gelato and a peek inside Bellagio's Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.
Other Las Vegas freebies include the MGM Lion Exhibit, and the Mirage volcanoes, which erupt every 15 minutes from dusk until midnight.
Las Vegas traffic can be a nightmare, so to get around town quickly, take the Las Vegas Monorail. Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. and one-way or day passes can be purchased at the kiosks. It has seven stations along the Strip, beginning at the MGM Grand and ending at the Sahara, one of the few Las Vegas casinos where you can still find $1 blackjack tables.
Once you arrive, there are plenty of pedestrian bridges that will lead you across the busy Strip.
During the summer, temperatures peak at 120 degrees, so naturally the Las Vegas pool scene is where it's at. One of the hottest Las Vegas hotel pools is Caesars Garden of the Gods, with 8 pools, an 18-foot waterfall, and swim-up blackjack tables. The Las Vegas pool party season runs between April and September.
When you're ready to party, take in the Las Vegas nightlife on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, or hit the Las Vegas club circuit. You can avoid lengthy lines and get the VIP treatment by purchasing a Vegas Passport, or arriving well before midnight. Hot spots are always changing, but right now the in-crowd hangs at Vanity (Hard Rock), Eve (City Center), Haze (Aria Hotel), Tao (Venetian) and XS (at Encore).
Other party spots include Pure at Caesars, LAX at Luxor, LAVO at the Palazzo and Ghostbar, Moon and Rain at the Palms.
Big-name Las Vegas show tickets sell out months in advance, so book them well before your visit. Some of the lesser-known shows are equally entertaining, and usually available the same day.
Just don't leave Vegas without stopping at the iconic Welcome to Las Vegas Sign, located a mile south of Russell Road. There is a small parking lot on the southbound lane, though it takes a small stroke of luck to get a spot. Elvis is even waiting to take a picture with you — for a small donation.
Las Vegas flights arrive at McCarran International Airport, just a block from the Strip.
