SAN DIEGO BAYFRONT CA DAHON BIKE CRUISE STAR OF INDIA, MARITIME MUSEUM URBAN TREES 9.2009
Star of India was built in 1863 as Euterpe, a full-rigged iron windjammer ship in Ramsey, Isle of Man. After a full career sailing from Great Britain to India then to New Zealand, she became a salmon hauler on the Alaska then to California route. After retirement in 1926[1], she was restored between 1962 and 1963[4] and is now a seaworthy museum ship ported at the San Diego Maritime Museum in San Diego. She is the oldest ship that still sails regularly and the oldest iron hulled merchant ship still floating. The ship is both a California and United States National Historic Landmark.
The Maritime Museum of San Diego, established in 1948, preserves one of the largest collections of historic sea vessels in the United States. Located in the San Diego Bay, the centerpiece of the museum's collection is the Star of India, an 1863 iron bark. The museum maintains the MacMullen Library and Research Archives aboard the 1898 ferryboat Berkeley.
Theres a new crop of Urban Trees along the North Embarcadero of San Diego Bay. The Urban Trees 6 plantings include sculptures of an American eagle to thank our nation's troops, mans best friend to remind people that dogs bring joy, and a giant popcorn box filled with chickens to bring smiles to passersby.
The 30 trees from 30 artists range from serious to lighthearted, whimsical to abstract. What many have in common is that they are kinetic, attracting attention as they move with the wind.

STORYLINE
Hurricane Ike roared ashore south of Cuba's densely populated capital of aging buildings on Tuesday after tearing across the island nation, ravaging homes, killing at least four people.
State television said some 2.6 (m) million people - nearly a fourth of Cuba's population - sought shelter from Ike as it swept across the island.
Winds howled and heavy rains fell across Havana, where streets were empty on Tuesday morning.
Towering waves broke over the graceful El Malecon seaside promenade, which police barricaded off late on Monday in fear that its historic apartment buildings, many in poor repair, were vulnerable to collapse.
Many of Havana's elderly sought shelter in government shelters, such as Convento de Belen.
One elderly resident from Old Havana, Ruben Canosa, said he was transferred to Convento de Belen after authorities became concerned about the safety of another shelter.
We are here because the other building wasn't safe to stay there. There was a danger of it collapsing and here, so far, they have treated us perfectly, no complaints, Canosa said.
The world-renowned Hotel Nacional looked deserted, surrounded by flooded carparks and windblown palm trees.
Police spread out across the city to halt all but emergency and official traffic.
Roadways were strewn with tree branches and rocks, and the rubble from crumbling balconies littered sidewalks.
Navigation was banned in Havana Bay, its usually placid surface stirred up by white-capped waves.
The heavy rains soaked the buildings of picturesque Old Havana, causing some of the more dilapidated to collapse.
In one block, four homes were reduced to rubble and heavy machinery was brought in the clear the debris.
Police braved the storm to stop all but emergency traffic in streets littered with branches, rocks and the rubble from crumbling balconies.
On the narrow streets of Camaguey, falling utility poles crushed cars and the roaring wind turned dilapidated buildings into heaps of rubble.
Colonial columns were toppled and the ornate sculptures on the roofs of centuries-old buildings were smashed in the central Cuban city, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Reports of damage were still sketchy from the west, as Ike moved across the region.
Dangerous storm surges were reported along the southwestern coast, which is lined with small fishing villages.
State news media said 19 coastal communities were evacuated.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The 1935 Labor Day hurricane (formally known as Hurricane Three) was the most intense hurricane to make landfall in the United States on record in terms of both pressure and wind speed. It was also the most intense Atlantic hurricane on record until Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. The second tropical cyclone, second hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 1935 Atlantic hurricane season, the Labor Day Hurricane was the first of three Category 5 hurricanes to strike the United States at that intensity during the 20th century (the other two being 1969's Hurricane Camille and 1992's Hurricane Andrew). After forming as a weak tropical storm east of the Bahamas on August 29, it slowly proceeded westward and became a hurricane on September 1.
The hurricane intensified rapidly, and passed near Long Key on the evening of September 2. The region was swept by a massive storm surge as the eye passed. The waters quickly receded after carving new channels connecting the bay with the ocean; however, gale force winds and high seas persisted into Tuesday, preventing rescue efforts. The storm continued northwest along the Florida west coast, weakening before its second landfall near Cedar Key, Florida, on September 4.
The compact and intense hurricane caused extreme damage in the upper Florida Keys, as a storm surge of approximately 18 to 20 feet (5.5–6 meters) swept over the low-lying islands. The hurricane's strong winds and the surge destroyed nearly all the structures between Tavernier and Marathon. The town of Islamorada was obliterated. Portions of the Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast Railway were severely damaged or destroyed. The hurricane also caused additional damage in northwest Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

US Marines encounter Red Haired Giant in Afghanistan
A supposed witness of the event said that one soldier was skewered by the giant while they laid down fire. According to this soldier, the government did not divulge this encounter and he believed that it was because giants do not fit into the way we explain our world. Steve Quayle and Gen6 Productions made a mini-doc about this event, interviewing a soldier who was on the team that encountered the Giant.
