Sunder Nursery - Delhi's Central Park #WorldHeritage #Aesthetics #Architecture #Sustainability
Our vlog/documentary about this amazing paradise garden in Delhi :) #TranquilDelhi
--------------------------------
Sunder Nursery (Central Park, New Delhi) is a 16th century heritage park complex adjacent to the Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Delhi. Originally known as Azim Bagh and built by the Mughals in the 16th century, it lies on the Mughal-era Grand Trunk Road, and is spread over 90 acres (36 hectare). Future plans aim to link nearby areas to develop it into India's largest park covering 900 acres.
Today Sunder Nursery contains fifteen heritage monuments of which 6 are UNESCO World Heritage sites, including Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) protected Sunder Burj, Sunderwala Mahal and Lakkarwala Burj.
The development works at Sunder Nursery commenced in 2007 by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) in partnership with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the nursery reopened to public as a heritage park on 21 February 2018. Now it contains over 300 types of trees, making it Delhi's first arboretum.
During the British rule, the nursery was established to grow experimental plants, which gave it its current designation as a nursery. The Sunder part of the name comes from the Sunder Burj tomb located in the same premises. Although the name Sunder Nursery has still held, the park has been quoted to be a 'Delhi's Central Park' after landscape development works undergone since 2007.
Sunder Nursery is part of the larger Nizamuddin Urban Renewal Project of the Aga Khan Trust, master plan which involves restoration work on 30 nearby heritage structures.

Highway to Pakistan, from India, on NH1!
OK, you're right, viewier - this is a dual carriage-way to Pakistan, from India! This road leads to the Wagah border in Punjab, along the Indo-Pakistan border. This is NH1 or National Highway 1, also known as the Grand-Trunk Road and it stretches from Wagah to Delhi, via Amritsar and Ludhiana.
Wagah Attari Border antics - the tallest soldiers from both sides march stridently at both ends of the border, to impress and frighten the other side! The Wagah border closing ceremony or 'lowering of the flags' ceremony is a daily military practice that the Border Security Force of India and Pakistan Rangers have jointly followed since 1959. This ceremony takes place every evening before sunset at the Wagah border, which as part of the Grand Trunk Road was the only road link between these two countries before the opening of the Aman Setu in Kashmir in 1999.
The ceremony starts with a blustering parade by the soldiers from both the sides, and ends up in the perfectly coordinated lowering of the two nations' flags. It is called the beating retreat border ceremony on the international level. One infantryman or Jawan stands at attention on each side of the gate. As the sun sets, the iron gates at the border are opened and the two flags are lowered simultaneously. The flags are folded and the ceremony ends with a retreat that involves a brusque handshake between soldiers from either side, followed by the closing of the gates again. India and Pakistan not being on good terms, the soldiers from both sides try to outdo each other with exaggerating March and parades. The spectacle of the ceremony attracts many visitors from both sides of the border, as well as international tourists. In October 2010, Major General Yaqub Ali Khan of the Pakistan Rangers decided that the aggressive aspect of the ceremonial theatrics should be toned down
The India--Pakistan Border, known locally as the International Border (IB), is the international boundary between India and Pakistan that demarcates the Indian states of Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat from the Pakistani provinces of Punjab and Sindh. Pakistan borders India in the east. The border resulted from the Partition of India in 1947, which resulted in the two states of India and (West and East) Pakistan. The Line of Control (LoC) separates The Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan administered Azad Kashmir.
Wagah, the ceremonial point of crossing between India and Pakistan lies along this border between the Indian city of Amritsar and the Pakistani city of Lahore, and is within close distance of both cities' urban sprawl. Wagah is the only road border crossing between Pakistan and India, and lies on the Grand Trunk Road between the cities of Amritsar, Punjab, India and Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Wagah itself is a village through which the controversial Radcliffe Line, the boundary demarcation line dividing India and Pakistan upon the Partition of India, was drawn. The village was divided by independence in 1947. Today, the eastern half of the village remains in the Republic of India while the western half is in Pakistan. It is particularly known for the elaborate Wagah border ceremony that happens at the border gate before sunset each day.

Dog on a road trip Delhi to Goa | Indian Highway
When it comes to vacationing in India, it's always heartbreaking to leave your pet behind. At best, you try and find a friend who can keep your pet while you go on a vacation. Or someone stays back to look after the beloved family pet. Throughout the vacation you keep worrying about your poor little pet left home alone. I think every dog and cat owner has faced this dilemma.
A year back, when I was in Goa holidaying with my family, somehow the holiday felt incomplete because our four legged family member was back in Delhi. Instead of being with us, enjoying the sea, she was suffering the Delhi heat.
My dog came to us as a little puppy, we raised her through adolescence, watched her grow into the chocolate piece of adorableness that she is. When I thought of my next road trip, I knew I couldn't leave her behind.

Wat Phnom (Wat Phnom Daun Penh)
Wat Phnom, the namesake and symbol of the capital city of Phnom Penh, sets prominently atop an artificial 27 meter hill (or 'Phnom') in the northeastern section of the city. Legend has it that Daun Penh, a wealthy widow, retrieved a large koki tree trunk from the river. She had hoped to use it for a house, but inside a hollow of the trunk, she found four statues of the Buddha. She then ordered for a section of her property to be elevated for a small shrine to be erected to revere the statues. This became a sacred site and people started to settle around the hill; eventually, this became the city it now is. It is here that the city gets its name: ‘Phnom’ means hill in Khmer and ‘Penh’ is of course the name of the lady.
Royal Palace
The Royal Palace of Cambodia is a complex of buildings, even though it is generally understood to be the royal abode of the King of Cambodia. The compound was the citadel of King Ponhea Yat (1393-1463) and rebuilt to its present state in 1886, when King Norodom (1834-1904) relocated the royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh. The buildings with beautiful towering spires are a great example of classic Khmer architecture found in Cambodia today.
Along with numerous other interesting buildings, within the 183,135 square meters (421m x 435m) compound is The Khemarin Palace, also known as Prasat Khemarin or the Palace of the Khmer King. This is officially the residence of His Majesty, King Norodom Sihamoni.
Silver Pagoda
The Silver Pagoda, also known as the Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morokat (the Emerald Pagoda) to Cambodians, lies within the grounds of the Royal Palace, which is situated near the banks of the Mighty Mekong.
Originally a wooden structure, the palace was initially constructed in 1892 during the reign of King Norodom, but rebuilt to its present grandeur by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1962. The king spared no effort to make this a true embodiment of brilliant Khmer art. More than 5300 pcs of 1.125 kilo silver tiles are used to cover the floor of the Silver Pagoda, and the silver pieces collectively weigh over six tons.
National Museum
The National Museum of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is the country’s leading historical and archaeological museum. It was officially inaugurated by King Sisowat in 1920.
Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach)
Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach) built in 1958 as a memorial to Cambodia's war dead and to celebrate independence from foreign rule, the monument stands majestically on the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard in the centre of the city. It is designed by the influential Cambodian modern architect Vann Molyvann in the form of a lotus-shaped stupa in the same style seen at the great Khmer temple at Angkor Wat and other Khmer historical sites.
Phsar Thmey (Central Market)
Phsar Thmey, also known as Central Market, is a unique colonial style building constructed in 1937. The location where the Central Market now sits was once a swamp area and occupied by a lake known as Beng Decho. Today, this beautiful market has become a prominent landmark in Phnom Penh. In the Khmer language, Phsar Thmey literally means ‘New Market’.

Travelling the roads of Punjab, on NH95

Driving to Ludhiana from Delhi! This is NH1 or National Highway 1, also known as the Grand-Trunk Road and it stretches from Wagah to Delhi, via Amritsar and Ludhiana.
Punjab, also spelt Panjab, is a state in the northwest of the Republic of India, forming part of the larger Punjab region. The state is bordered by the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh to the east, Haryana to the south and southeast and Rajasthan to the southwest as well as the Pakistani province of Punjab to the west. It is also bounded to the north by the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. The state capital is located in Chandigarh, which is a Union Territory and also the capital of the neighbouring state of Haryana.
After the partition of India in 1947, the Punjab province of British India was divided between India and Pakistan. The Indian Punjab was divided in 1966 with the formation of the new states of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, as well as the current state of Punjab. Punjab is the only state in India with a majority Sikh population.
The term Punjab comprises two words: punj meaning five and ab meaning water, thus the land of five rivers. The Greeks referred to Punjab as Pentapotamia, an inland delta of five converging rivers. In Avesta, the sacred text of Zoroastrians, the Punjab region is associated with the ancient hapta həndu or Sapta Sindhu, the Land of Seven Rivers. Historically, the Punjab region has been the gateway to the Indian Subcontinent for people from Greece, Central Asia, Iran, and Afghanistan.
Agriculture is the largest industry in Punjab; it is the largest single producer of wheat in India. Other major industries include the manufacturing of scientific instruments, agricultural goods, electrical goods, financial services, machine tools, textiles, sewing machines, sports goods, starch, tourism, fertilisers, bicycles, garments, and the processing of pine oil and sugar. Punjab also has the largest number of steel rolling mill plants in India, which are located in Steel Town Mandi Gobindgarh, District Fatehgarh Sahib.
