Places to see in ( Trento - Italy ) Doss Trento
The Doss Trento ( Dòs Trènt in Trentino dialect ) is a small hill that stands on the right bank of the river Adige in the district of Piedicastello of the capital of Trentino. It is a spur that at its highest point reaches 309 m asl , rising more than a hundred meters from the bottom of the valley floor, and is covered by 8 hectares of forest. Together with the Dosso di San Rocco and the Dosso Sant'Agata they form the three teeth of the ancient Roman Tridentum. The Doss Trento was portrayed in 1495 by the painter Albrecht Dürer in watercolor Trintperg .
The original name of Doss Trento is Monte Verruca. This is a name given by the Roman settlers who no doubt remembers the strange shape of the mountain which, if viewed from above, looks like an annoying wart . The Romans gave this name presumably by observing the mountain from the town of Sardagna , from which there is a clear vision of the particular hilly conformation.
From a geological point of view , the Doss Trento is part of a landscape resulting from the modeling of the glacial / postglacial quaternary cycles, with regard to the last and most profound exhaustion effected by the Würmiano glacier in the Valle dell'Adige.
The particular morphology, which makes it a separate relief from Monte Bondone , can be explained by the erosion of the glacial flow and later the river concentrated in a zone of mechanical weakness due to the presence of a fault placed between the Verruca and the eastern slopes of Monte Bondone . This deformation zone also poses some problems with the stability of the western slope of the relief.
The Doss Trento was affected by human presence since prehistoric times . In the North-East side, in a rocky shelter, the skull of an adult man and the bony remains of two Neolithic children were found in 1890. On the Doss Trento are the remains of the perimeter of an early Christian basilica [5] (clear sign of the historical importance of this mountain for the city). It is probable that this church has settled on an ancient Rhaetian castelliere (used, and perhaps modified, probably by the Romans ), from which some derive the name of the underlying district of Piedicastello.
In September 1938 an executive committee was set up for the construction of the so-called alpine acropolis on the Doss Trento (which included several works, only partially realized, including a national historical museum of the Alpini ). To this end, the committee ordered the construction of a new access road to the summit of the hill (then called the Strada degli Alpini ): the design was entrusted to the town hall of Trento, and the execution to a detachment of troops from the then five Alpine divisions, which during the works involved an average of 270 units, exceeding three hundred units in the summer of 1942 .
( Trento - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Trento . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Trento - Italy

Trentino Region - Italy
Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol[3] (Italian: Trentino-Alto Adige, pronounced [trenˈtiːno ˈalto ˈaːdidʒe]; German: Trentino-Südtirol;[4] Ladin: 'Trentin-Südtirol';[5] Austro-Bavarian: Trentino-Sidtiroul), is an autonomous region in Northern Italy. It consists of two provinces: Trento and Bolzano-Bozen. The region was part of Austria-Hungary and its predecessors, the Austrian Empire and the Holy Roman Empire from the 8th century until its annexation by Italy in 1919. Together with the Austrian state of Tyrol it is represented by the Euroregion Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino.
In English, the region is also known as Trentino-South Tyrol[6] or by its Italian name Trentino-Alto Adige.[7]
Geography
Alpine landscape near the village of Stilfs
The region is bordered by Tyrol (Austria) to the north, by Graubünden (Switzerland) to the north-west and by the Italian regions of Lombardy and Veneto to the west and south, respectively. It covers 13,607 km² (5,253 sq mi). It is extremely mountainous, covering a large part of the Dolomites and the southern Alps.
The Autonomous Province of Bolzano has an area of 7,400 km2, all of it mountainous land and covered by vast forests. In Italy, the province borders on Lombardy in the west, Trento in the south and Veneto in the east. The climate is of the continental type, owing to the influence of the many mountain ranges which stand at well over 3,000 metres above sea-level and the wide valleys through which flow the main river, the Adige, from north to south and its numerous tributaries. In the city of Bolzano, capital of the province, the average air temperature stands at 12.2 °C (54 °F) and the average rainfall at 717.7 mm. The lowest pass across the Alps, the Brenner Pass, is located at the far north of the region on the border with Austria.[8]
The Autonomous Province of Trento has an area of 6,207 km2, most of it mountainous land (20% is over 2,000 m (6,561.68 ft) and 70% over 1,000 m) and covered by vast forests (50% of the territory). The climate is various through the province, from an alpine climate to subcontinental one, with warm and variable summers and cold and quite snowy winters. The region has always been a favourite destination for tourists, both in winter for skiing in the high mountains and in summer to visit the wide valleys and many lakes (the largest being Lake Garda) can be found.[9]
[edit] History
Trento, the belfry
The region of current Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol was conquered by the Romans in 15 BC. After the end of the Western Roman Empire, it was divided between the invading German tribes in the Lombard Duchy of Tridentum (today's Province of Trento), the Alamannic Vinschgau and the Bavarians taking the remaining part. After the creation of the Kingdom of Italy under Charlemagne, the Marquisate of Verona included the areas south of Bolzano, while the Duchy of Bavaria received the remaining part.[10]
From the 11th century onwards, part of the region was governed by the prince-bishops of Trento and Brixen, to whom the Holy Roman Emperors had given extensive temporal powers over their bishoprics. The rest was part of the County of Tyrol and County of Görz, which controlled the Pustertal: in 1363 its last titular, Margarete, Countess of Tyrol ceded it to the House of Habsburg. The regions north of Salorno were largely Germanized in the early Middle Ages, and important German poets like Oswald von Wolkenstein were born and lived in the southern part of Tyrol.
RTTR TV, TCA TV: TRIDENTUM OPENING by Stefano Cagol
=====
The Stefano Cagol's permanent monumental installation TRIDENTUM (2011) marks the new A22 gate of Trento sud. The installation titled TRIDENTUM refers to the Roman name of the town which synthesizes in a conceptual way the three hills that have given origin to this name, and that, framed by higher mountains, still identify the town. It is a new monument of the town and its territory that has its roots over thousands of years ago to project Trento into the future. The artwork is be made in 2011, its total base surface is of 150 square meters, it is made of three complex pyramidal polyhedric structures, 32 sides, and 16 tons of steel.
Neptune Fountain, Trento, Trentino Alto Adige, Italy, Europe
The fountain of Neptune is located in Piazza Duomo in Trento, in the place where it was customary to install the machine of fires for the feast of St. Vigilio, and was built to a design by the sculptor Francesco Antonio Giongo Lavarone between 1767 and 1769. this fountain sculptor developed a system of water flow without interruption. The statue of Neptune is the original work of Stefano Salterio from Como, but because of the damage suffered in the time it has been moved to the end of 1939 in the courtyard of the palace near Thun, while the fountain is from 1945 a bronze copy made in 1942 David Rigatti. Under the statue of Neptune fountain is decorated with tritons, sea horses and other sculptures, also originally by Stefano Psalter, then replaced in the nineteenth century by copies made by sculptor Andrea Malfatti (1832-1917) on the drawings of the painter Ferdinand Netherlands (Trento, 1819 - Venice, 1883). The newt upper southern further copy made in 1920 by David Rigatti. Engraved on four shelves on either side of the stem, at mid-height, is the word Magnificum hunc fontem, cum acquarum cursu perpetual, [d] esperanti [bus] omni [bus], An Franciscus [tonius] Iongo tri [dentin] us fecit. In cartouches carved on the sides of the barrel are engraved lettering MDCCLXVIII (1768) and SPQT '(Senatus Popolusque Tridents). From the construction until the second half of the nineteenth century the fountain was surrounded by a series of sixteen pillars joined by chains, then removed. A Elberfeld (Wuppertal) there is a copy of the fountain (Jubiläumsbrunnen), created in 1895 by the sculptor Leo Müsch. The first official act for the construction of a fountain that bring safe water within the walls of Trent was made by the Magistrate consular, the self-governing body of the city, with a resolution of 23 December 1766, for about health and decorum the city. The original intention was however modest, and planned to resort to private financing in exchange for the granting of citizenship. The initiative, however, had little success because the members were only two. The project and the work of the fountain were entrusted to the architect Flavio Antonio Giongo Lavarone (1723-1776), who sculpted the tanks, the stem and the scrolls, and was later joined in 1767 by Stefano Psalter from Como (1730-1806) who sculpted the statue of Neptune and other statuary groups (tritons, centaurs, putti and sea horses). The fountain was completed the following year, in 1768, as reported in one of the scrolls on the stem, but still without water. Simultaneously with the construction of the fountain, in fact, work proceeded for the water supply of the same, which provided for connection to a source above the village of Cadine, with whom settled agreements in this regard in 1767, through an aqueduct pipes pine coming down from the west in the river gorge Vela (Bus de Vela) to the city. However pipelines would carry the water pressure, bursting, and even the flooding of the river Vela caused damage. The task of bringing water to the fountain was then entrusted still Flavio Antonio Giongo, with a reward of 500 florins if he had secured a water continuous and perpetual. The purpose he used a source to the east, near the hamlet of San Dona, and also part of the water of the stream Fersina purified through special tanks. In civic acts, in a footnote to the Freshman of the citizens of 1768 reads He knew how easily lead out what others tried in vain, and these episodes probably refer the engravings' cum acquarum cursu perpetual and [d] esperanti [bus] omni [bus] on the shelves at the sides of the stem of the fountain. The July 8, 1769 the water finally began to gush from the fountain, and just a month later, on August 13, 1769, the Magistrate consular issued a proclamation banning polluting the water by washing diapers, tripe, frogs and the like . The fountain of Neptune is a bold combination, in fact binds an alpine town to the sea, and a historic Episcopal seat (front of the Praetorian Palace) to a pagan deity. The reasons that led to the choice of this subject are not known, but is assumed to have been influenced by the decline of the Bishopric together with the expansion of the Enlightenment (hence the choice of a secular subject), and also between the dall'assonanza 'ancient Roman name of the city, Tridentum, with the trident of Neptune.

Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Trent city, with his rich historic city center.
WHAT
Before the Romans, Trent was a Celtic village. It was conquered by the Romans in the late 1st century BC. Romans gave their settlement the name Tridentum as a tribute to the Roman god Neptune. (Actually, the origin of the name is not clear, it could refer to 3 small hills that rise around Trento, called Doss.) Tridentum became an important stop on the Roman road that led from Verona to Innsbruck. In the 16th century, the city was the location of the famous “Council of Trent”. Formerly part of Austria-Hungary empire, it was annexed by Italy in 1919.
With almost 120,000 inhabitants, Trento is one of the largest city.
What to see:
- Duomo (Cathedral of Saint Vigilius) is a Gothic cathedral of the twelfth century, built on top of a late-Roman basilica.
- Palazzo Pretorio, next to the Duomo, dates back to the 12th century, with a bell tower.
- Buonconsiglio Castle includes a museum and the remarkable Torre dell'Aquila.
- Palazzo delle Albere is a Renaissance villa next to the Adige river built around 1550, and now host a modern art museum.
- MUSE is the museum of science and natural history, planned by Renzo Piano and opened in 2013.
WHY
Trento why go here? Thy to visit this city?
As you have seen, the city offers a rich historical heritage, in a comfortable city setting and a panoramic alpine landscape.
