360 video: Turtle Fountain, Rome, Italy
This small fountain, located a bit away from the most popular tourist areas, continues to charm visitors by the romantic tale that has been told of its construction since the late 16th century. You also might have seen it in the movie The Talented Mr Ripley.
The fountain is rumoured to have been built during a single night on orders of a lovesick Roman duke, who wanted to convince the father of his darling that he deserved her hand.
Designed by architect Giacomo della Porta, the fountain was originally decorated by sculptures of boys holding up dolphins. The iconic turtles that it gets its name after were only added during a reconstruction several years later. They may have been sculpted by Lorenzo Bernini himself.

Funny curious seagull - Italy Rome Tour

Segway Fun Rome official video
Glass Artist Raven Skyriver makes GIANT glass Sea Turtle! AMAZING
Raven Skyriver is an American Glass artist who focuses mainly on wildlife and the natural world in his expressive glass sculptures. He is known for pushing the limits of the glass medium in his ultra realistic pieces. He has mastered many coloring techniques through the use of frit, powdered glass and color bars to create ultra realistic skin tones and body markings. His hot sculpting skills are unbelievable as well.
Prior to the shooting of this video Raven came prepared with the turtle's shell, fins and head by pre-sculpting and cutting; using a diamond wheel, cutting through multiple layers of glass to create the pattern on the turtle's shell, and sandblasting the scales fins. Watch as raven uses many of the same coloring techniques to create the turtle's body, blow it into the shell and attach the fins and head. This is a dramatic process! Enjoy
Rome Capitoline Hill Campidoglio Palatine Ghetto old roofs seen from Turtles Nest terraced apartment
South-East view of the Capitoline and Palatine Hills, of the Ghetto, from the Turtles Nest apartment terrace. You can also see other churches and domes, and the Roman Castles.
From left to right, you can single out:
- The Jesus Church (Chiesa del Gesù, in Italian), the main church of the Jesuite Order;
- Palazzo Mattei, an aristocratic palace, built in 1616, in front of which you find the famous Turtle Fountain;
- Victor Emmanuel monument, called Vittoriale or Altar of the Fatherland (Altare della Patria), commemorating the King Victor Emmanuel, the first king of reunited Italy in 1861 (its building ended in 1911);
- the Church Ara Coeli (Altar of the Sky, in Latin), built in the Middle Ages on the ruins of the Temple of Venus of ancient Rome (it was the famous temple where the sacred geese squawked alerting the Romans of the impending Goths' attack);
- the Municipality of Rome (the palace with a high tower which looks like a belfry), built on the very top of Capitoline Hill. It overlooks on its other side the Roman Forum and the Colosseum;
- The Capitoline Museum and Palazzo Conservatori, still on Capitoline Hill. There stood here in ancient Rome the temple of Jupiter Optimum Maximus, the main temple of the Romans, looking towards the temple with the same name located in the Roman Castles, where from Romans settlers founded Rome (i.e. the mythological Romulus and Remus);
- the Palatine Hill (from which the word palace originates);
- the Theatre of Marcellus, inside of which during medieval times some palaces were built;
- the Roman Castles or Alban Hills, in particular Monte Cavo and the ridge of the Lake of Albano, where there stood the founding town of all Roman towns, including Rome. Its name was Albalonga, which was said to be founded by Julo or Ascanius, son of Aeneas, the mythical Trojan prince who escaped from Troy and who landed with some of his people on the shores of Latium;
- the Dome of the main Jewish Temple / Synagogue, in the former Ghetto, today's Jewish Quarter;

★ Lisa Anckarman: and ★ Caroline Roxy: discuss what to do and where to go in Rome in an essential guide to Italy’s historic capital city.
Caroline: Ciao! Today we’re taking you on a tour of Rome, Italy’s fashion conscious capital.
Lisa: Rome is simply beautiful. It’s like stepping back in time. I love this city.
Caroline: Absolutely, Rome feels alive with history. So many of the city’s monuments are in incredible condition considering their grand age. Of course one of the main lures to Rome are its Roman structures.
Lisa: Definitely, my top two attractions are the Roman Forum, the place where, for hundreds of years Roman leaders ran an empire and the Colosseum, one of the most recognizable Roman site in the world.
Caroline: Beyond the Roman ruins there’s so much to see and do in Rome. Personally, I love exploring Vatican City, particularly the Sistine Chapel, and risking the Bocca della Verità, or Mouth of Truth, that crazy statue that’s said to a bite off the hand of liars.
Lisa: Sounds creepy! For kids, the interactive Explora Museum is a great day out too.
Caroline: I love exploring all the parks in the city too.
Lisa: Oh yeah, the gardens at Vatican City are just so beautiful, I can spend hours there.
Caroline: My favorite is Villa Ada. It’s really big and has wooded areas, a lake, and even Roman ruins. It’s so beautiful. If you’re lucky, you might catch a concert there too.
Lisa: I think a cruise along the River Tiber is pretty special. You get to experience Rome from the water, and if you go at sunset, the views are outstanding.
Caroline: It’s amazing really, unlike many cities in the world you can’t really go anywhere in central Rome without being in sight of an ancient monument or Renaissance sculpture.
Lisa: I think that’s what makes the city so unique.
Caroline: For me, a summer trip to Rome is all about the gelato. That incredible Italian ice cream on a hot day is the best.
Lisa: I know, Rome is such a great destination for foodies. You can’t go and not sample a local dish in one of the city’s trattorias. They’re so good. I love all the cute cafés too, a Roman espresso is hard to beat.
Caroline: For fine dining, you have to head to La Pergola or Il Covivio, these glamorous restaurants serve, in my opinion, the finest food in the city. And that’s quite a statement considering Rome’s world-class offerings.
Lisa: After dinner, you have to head to the Trastevere neighborhood, it’s where you’ll find the city’s trendiest bars and clubs.
Caroline: Of course you can’t come to Rome without hitting the shops. As one of the world’s foremost fashion destinations, there are some incredible places to browse high-end fashion items. Via Condotti along Piazza di Spagna has tons of great boutiques, but there are some really unique places too.
Lisa: The Marini shoe shop is amazing, that’s mainly for the guys, but ladies should head to Maurizio Catalioti's boutique in the turtle fountain piazza, it’s magnificent.
Caroline: You also need to be aware of the traffic. Drivers in Rome are notoriously erratic, you need to keep your eyes peeled for speeding scooters in particular.
Lisa: I totally agree with that one.
Caroline: Finally to the Tripseats top five, Rome’s highlights. At number five is dinner in a trattoria. There’s no better way to sample unique Roman dishes in a uniquely Roman setting.
Lisa: At number four is the Coliseum. It’s such an impressive site and it really does feel like your stepping back in time, and you just imagine what it would have been like there in the Ancient Roman era.
Caroline: At number three is the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo’s painted ceiling is awe-inspiring, one of the greatest artwork’s ever created.
Lisa: At number three is St Peter’s Basilica. The church itself is stunning, but the square around it too really feels like the heart of Vatican City.
Caroline: And at number one is the Trevi Fountain. It’s such an iconic spot, and I think it could well be the most beautiful bit of architecture in all of Rome. I hope you guys learned something new about Rome today.
Lisa: And that you have a fantastic trip. The easiest way to book your flight to Rome is to go to
