Fujitsu is helping the University of Pune attract more students and carry out ground breaking research by providing a world class HPC platform.
The University of Pune worked closely with Fujitsu to design, configure, and build the new FUJITSU Software HPC Cluster Suite Advanced with FUJITSU Software Gateway. The result is built on Fujitsu PRIMERGY RX2540 and CX400 servers, combined with storage from DataDirect Networks (DDN). FUJITSU Server PRIMERGY CX Scale-out systems are the ideal basis for cloud, hyper-converged, and HPC solutions. They provide massive computing power for virtualized environments and complex calculations, as well as consolidation and high-availability scenarios.
Tasks that would have taken weeks now take days and so solutions can be brought to market much faster. The result is that Savitribai Phule Pune University can offer world-class HPC facilities and remain competitive, while also addressing some of the most pressing issues facing India and the wider world. Climate modeling, nanotech, quantum chemistry, solar cells, and bio-informatics are some of the ground-breaking areas students can delve into.
The University is now the only Indian, state-level university to have a dedicated HPC platform, which helps attract students and produce better research for the benefit of society.

Savitribai Phule Pune University was established on 10th February, 1949. The University has affiliated colleges, departments and research institutes, which are primarily in Pune. It is also affiliated by the University Grants Commission.
The motto of the university is to global, socially conscious Center of Excellence in the conservation, creation, advancement and dissemination of knowledge to empower its faculty and students to contribute meaningfully to economic, technological, social development and progress.
Let me take you to the campus tour of India’s most prestigious university Savitribai Phule University
The campus has spread over a vast area of 114 acres. Infrastructure includes classrooms, computer centre, auditorium, learning centre, labs, dining halls, Wi-Fi facility, canteen, library, sports complex, gymnasium, printing press and health center, competitive examination center.
The Jaykar Library has more than 4,50,000 books and journals. It subscribes to Indian and foreign research journals and receives periodicals on a gratis and exchange basis. Library is also preserved with ancient Indian texts in the form of manuscripts and books.
Various programs and courses here includes: arts, fine arts and performing arts, management, physical education, science, commerce, law and pharmaceuticals science. The courses and programs provide streams like sociology, politics and public administration, defence and strategic studies, urban studies and planning, foreign languages, environmental science and biotechnology.
For the placements, the reputed companies visit the campus for the recruitment. More than 100% students get placed in different top companies with the average salary package of 25,000 to 70,000 per month.

Story behind the lone grave at Pune university’s campus
The lone grave on the Pune university’s campus has been a subject of much discussion for years. Several stories went around it, including one of failed love. The tombstone mentions Alice Richman the woman buried there died during the cholera outbreak in 1882. Delhi researcher Amit Ranjan visited Alice garden and painstakingly managed to join the dots to establish that Alice was the niece of Sir James Fergusson, who was the governor of Bombay in 1882 and, when in Pune, lived at the governor’s house which later was established as the university. She had come to visit Fergusson and his wife, Olive, and died of cholera. Researcher pointed out that some people said Alice had committed suicide because of an unrequited love affair with a local boy. Others said her ghost, clad in white robes and holding a candle, roams around the corridors of the university at night.
