Belém District | Eleven Minutes from Lisbon | Solo in Lisbon E5
After a couple of busy days I decided to jump on a train at Cais do Sodré and head over to the Belém district - a place where once upon a time sailors and seafarers set sail for new lands during the Portuguese age of discovery. The area is very different to central Lisbon, instead of a busy and frantic urban jungle you'll find gardens, quiet monasteries, elaborate palaces and old watchtowers used to guard the Tagus River as it meets the Atlantic Ocean.
I bought a ticket at the Cais do Sodré train station and for less than 5 Euros I made the 11 minute train journey across to Belém.

Alfama walking tour in Lisbon
We are going to take you on an extended walk through the Alfama, the old section of Lisbon, capital of Portugal. Strolling through Alfama is one of your great experiences in coming to Lisbon so don't miss this opportunity. A great time to come is late in the afternoon, early evening when folks are out socializing, visiting, shopping. And it's generally a pedestrian zone – there are a few motor scooters and mopeds of course, but most of these lanes as you can see are quite narrow and cobbled and just ideal for strolling. Rio Tejo Lisboa River Tagus Lisbon visto do Céu
The Tagus river ( Portuguese: Rio Tejo) is the longest river in the Iberian Peninsula. It is 1,007 km (626 mi) long, 716 km (445 mi) in Spain, 47 km (29 mi) along the border between Portugal and Spain and 275 km (171 mi) in Portugal, where it empties into the Atlantic Ocean near Lisbon. It drains an area of 80,100 square kilometers (30,927 sq mi) (the second largest in the Iberian peninsula after the Douro). The Tagus is highly utilized for most of its course. Several dams and diversions supply drinking water to most of central Spain, including Madrid, and Portugal, while dozens of hydroelectric stations create power. Between dams it follows a very constricted course, but after Almourol it enters a vast alluvial valley prone to flooding. At its mouth is a large estuary on which the port city of Lisbon is situated.

Lisbon Portugal Day 2 | Delicious Breakfast | Military Museum
Day 2 in Alfama and after a hearty breakfast at a lovely little restaurant, we hit the streets and happily wandered down the hill towards the water, discovering gorgeous winding alleyways, cute residential areas and brightly coloured buildings.
It was quite a surprise to stumble upon the military museum and even more exciting was that it was free entry. We spent nearly 2 hours enjoying the artwork, displays and the history.
Next stop was lunch in what turned out to be a very popular spot, with tour groups regularly stopping and discussing the massive column that sat just behind us!

Gasoline Film - Portugal boat wave
The wave, the surfer, the dream... When these three words are combined, our
lives can change. A surfer always seeks the best waves, that relentless pursuit
that makes him travel the world searching for the perfect wave.
But what if the wave, which we often dreamed of the ocean, was closer than ever
imagined? And when we least expect it in a river?
A group of friends from Barreiro city, in Portugal, discovered a phenomenon: the
boat that connects their city to Lisbon provides a perfect wave that rolls along
150 meters in the Tagus river. They call it: “Gasoline”.
A wave is just a wave until someone has the vision to ride it. And then the
imagination can become reality.
Perfect, beautiful and mysterious, the wave shows only to those who really like
her, seek her, cherish, and have a special relationship with her.
This is a story of friendship, dedication, strength to believe and sharing
happiness in an unlikely scenario surfing Portugal’s most urban wave.
Despite being in the sight of thousands of people, the secret was now revealed...
