Vista Trail Hike @ Usery Mountain Regional Park, Mesa, AZ
The Vista Trail is a 0.5 mile trail in the Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa, AZ. The trail has a modest elevation gain of 49 feet, so it's easy enough for almost any skill or fitness level. The trail can be accessed from a parking and picnic area near the intersection of Usery Park Rd. and Wind Cave Drive. We hiked the trail from north to south. As you exit the trail from either direction, you will run into the Merkel Trail, which is a totally flat, well groomed loop. We were hiking in early March 2017 and came across some wild flowers on our hike. We also happened to see a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake at the intersection of the Vista Trail and Merkel Trail. The Vista Trail is a good warmup trail but there are more interesting and challenging trails in the park that I would recommend first.

Picture opportunity rating: 4
There are not that many picture opportunities on the way up, however you will have a nice view of the city and Lost Dutchman. If you go past the sanctioned trail you will get great opportunity for taking panoramas, or if you would like to test out your new lens, scope or binoculars. .
Hiking Difficulty: Moderate - Strenuous
The beginning is easy however as you get closer it will become moderate. If you go pass the sanctioned trail it will get strenuous. I do not think dogs will be a good idea past this point.
Paved road: Yes
Pass required for parking: Yes, you can pay at the local booth.
Dog accessible: Yes

Usery Recreation Pass Mountain Wind Cave Hike - Mesa, AZ
My wife and I visit Phoenix, Arizona every year because she has family that lives out there. In recent years, we've really gotten into the hiking out there. This hike was an out and back that began and ended at the corner of E McKellips and N Crimson Roads. We made it to the Wind Cave on Pass Mountain. The views of the valley from the Wind Cave were incredible. The hike was moderately strenuous.
If you have questions about our approach to this hike or about the hike in general, please leave a comment below!
I will have many more videos in the coming months: I am doing a section hike of the Vermont Long Trail; I will be spending a few days in the Adirondacks High Peaks Wilderness; my wife and I are heading out for a 16 day cross country road trip; I will be spending the summer with Radley, so Rad Life episodes are inevitable; and I will be doing a backpacking trip in Oregon. Be sure to subscribe in order to follow along!
