Verbier St Tropez Cycle 2013 - Day 3 (Grenoble to Valdrome)
The dreaded Day 3 of the 'Verbier St Tropez Cycle 2013'. When planning the five day route we always knew Day 3 was going to be the stand out hard core stage. 160kms with 3000 metres of climbing through some of Frances most stunning mountain roads.
The day began nice and early with a classic French breakfast of croissants and coffee at a great little cafe near to our hotel. Once fuelled we were greeted with a cheeky little climb right from the start! This served as a pretty good warm up for what was soon about to hit us. As we started to go past signs for L'alps D'Huez and the Col Du Galibier we knew we were in cycling gold country!
Our first major climb was the L'Alpe Du Grand Serre. 1000m vertical over 25kms which lead to a fantastic decent on the other side! From there we rattled off many more miles in some of the most amazing French scenery we have ever seen. The towns of La Mure, and Mens really stick out as highlights.
We had to negotiate other climbs including the Col de Malissol, Col Darccarias and Col Du Prayet, all before we had to endure the last big climb of the day. The Col De Menee started 83kms into the day and took us 800 metres up over 20kms. In the 30 degree heat this was a massive challenge but super rewarding when we hit the summit!
The smiles soon disappeared when we then realised we still had a good 60ms to go until Valdrome! The scenery in this part of France is mind blowing. Some of the rock formations made us feel like we could have been in a cowboy movie! As we wound through the gorges the water started to become turquoise blue and the smell of the land will be something we'll never forget.
This epic day all ended in what we all agreed was the most beautiful village we'd been through on the whole trip. Valdrome. Comfortable accommodation ( more food than we could eat and an incredibly friendly host.
This was the best way to end an unforgettable day on the bikes.

Schnapps, gaps and endless laps in Les 2 Alpes!
Life isn’t always better in board shorts... If you’re a snowboarder you gotta put on your snow pants at least ONCE every summer to truly feel alive. (Unless you’re a Viking from Norway, like Torgeir Bergrem. Then you’ll ride in shorts at 3600 metres above sea level)
And this is exactly what a fine handful of the Volcom Euro team did last week. We raced all the way from the beaches of Hossegor to the glacier of Les 2 Alpes, 900km away, thinking we’d be smart & escaping the heat, only to be greeted by +42 degrees in Grenoble. Madness.
But even in that temperature, the glacier up at 3600m stayed in remarkable shape.. Hats off to the Volcom-wearing shapers for an amazing job done... Day in day out.
If you’ve never been to Les Deux Alpes, then shame on you.. There’s NO BETTER PLACE to ride in Europe in Summer. Sure, Saas Fee gets good, and so does Zermatt. But in terms of multitude of park features, vertical drop, half pipe(s) and last but not least, aprés-riding activities down in the village, no other resort even comes close. Skating (several parks), swimming and perving on chicks at the pool or one of many nearby lakes, downhill cycling, trampolines, hitting the bars, or doing 101 other sports I won’t even start listing here, Les 2 Alpes truly has it all. It is the most complete summer riding resort in Europe. Period.. If in doubt of what to do or what’s going on, stopping by the Volcom store is always a smart move. Local legend and shop manager Yannick Amevet, of infinte Absinthe Films fame, is always up to date on what’s going on, where the cheapest beer is to be had, which girl NOT to perv on and mucho more. And he is happy to share his knowledge with you. So do swing by.
Now if only some rich Russian or Arab oligarch would also install a wave park, there’s would be no need to trek to the beach at all anymore, as Les Deux Alpes would be the most complete travel destination in the world.
Having local resident & hero (he hates being referred to as a hero, so please call him that if you meet him) Arthur Longo as our guide, showing us the ropes and all his secret spots is priceless. Moderately comparable to Jimmy Hendrix teaching you chords or Michael Jordan giving you pointers on how to shoot hoops.
Chamnoix - Chamrousse - French Alps - Mont Blanc trip
Alpinism - rolling over Rhone Alps.
My lifetime trip with some of my friends (Jagadish, Rajan & Raju).
Trip of a 2.5 days .. well too short time for a trip like this.
Started off from Brussels and reached Grenoble, France in 9,5 hours by road. Well the joruney was normal as it was dark for most of the time during journey.
And the second day we started from Grenoble to Chamrousse.... and the fun started with Skiing. Well it was an amateur nordic skiing ;) After spending half-a-day in Chamrousse, we were on our way back to Grenoble in the evening and the snow fall really buffed up our excitement with lot of tension as I never drove a car during snow fall and that too without snow tyres and imagine what would be the case if it is a ghat road (switchbacks / hairpin turns). And we managed coming down safely :). Now, if I recollect the drive, it was the best shot I gave till date. Back to the town we were hungry as we didnt have anything from morning. So, we feasted on Indian restaurant - Bombay House.
Second day we headed towards Chamnoix to reach the top of Europe - Mont Blanc. A 150 kms drive through clouds, snow and world's finest breath taking views will charm you make you fall at natures feet. Finally you will reach Chamnoix valley and god knows how to describe it... you are all surrounded by beautiful gaint alps and would never like to close your eyes for single moment. Soon we reached Aiguille de midi (point to ascent), we took the Gandola ride to the top of Europe.
And from the summit we had the panaromic view of the chamnoix valleys, Mont Blanc and glacier de la mer. Place de vide (Not in The Void) was the best experience I ever had.. walking on to the glass at an altitude of 3800 and experience a space of 3800 under your feet was not easy.
And from there the descent Chamoix and way back to Brussels with some interesting conversations with my friends which made me stick to the driving seat without making any mistake.
Thanks to my firends and this beautiful world !!!!

Lyrics:
I was walking down the street the other day
Trying to distract myself
But then I see your face
Ooh wait that’s someone else
Trying to play it coy
Trying to make it disappear
But just like the battle of troy
There’s nothing subtle here
In my room there’s a king size space
Bigger than it used to be
If you want you can rent that place
Call me an amenity
Even if it’s in my dreams
Ooh you’re taking up a fraction of my mind
Ooooh every time I watch you serpentine
I’m trying
Not to think about you
No no no
Not to think about you
No no no
I’m trying
Not to give in to you
No no no
Not to give in to you
With my feelings on fire
Guess I’m a bad liar
I see how your attention builds
It’s like looking in a mirror
Your touch like a happy pill
But still all we do is fear
What could possibly happen next
Can we focus on the love
Paint my kiss across your chest
If you’re the art I’ll be the brush
And oh baby let’s make reality actuality a reality

The Arboretum in Nanterre by laisné roussel and François Leclercq
Firmly focused on environmental quality and integration of new ways of working, the Arboretum will be the largest project ever built from solid wood, worldwide. The materials, the construction method, and the use and development of the buildings have all been designed with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the life of the campus and maximising its resilience.
Use of bio-sourced materials, bioclimatic design and generation of renewable (photovoltaic and geothermal) energy make this site a true model of sustainable development, thus marking a new stage in the ecological transition. An “add-on space” creates a link between the work and landscape spaces: there are genuine outside terraces as a direct extension of the offices likely to offer opportunity for additional uses. Hiking to Bastille – Grenoble | I saw a cave | Zipline | Part II
Bastille fort in Grenoble is a fantastic tourist destination. This is a 1-hour hike, which takes you through the beautiful road with lush green on either side of the path. In this part, I have also seen a man-made cave which was built to protect the fort in case of an emergency. I also have seen people doing ziplining. Additionally, I have talked about the major problem in France for foreigners like me who are travelling for at most a couple of weeks.
