HO CHI MINH CITY TOUR | ONE TRIP TOUR | VIETNAM VLOG #017
Ho Chi Minh City tour, Vietnam Vlog #17
We recently spent the day touring around Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and thoroughly enjoyed our time. This vlog covers everything that we saw and did during our day spent exploring Saigon!
To start off with, we visited an old quarter in District 3 that was previously a slum and was repeatedly bombed during the war. It has since recovered and is now a thriving neighbourhood. Some of the houses in this area sell for up to $100 000!
Next stop was Cheo Leo Cafe, which is considered to be one of the most popular local coffee shops in Saigon. Instead of using coffee filters, this coffee shop still makes use of an old clay pot and basket to make coffee. We highly recommend this place - The address is: 103/36 Nguyen Thien Thuat Street, Ward 2,District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Next we headed to the shrine established to commemorate the monk who burned himself alive to fight for his religion, to learn about the unique history behind this event was mindblowing!
After that we caught a taxi to one of the most famous hidden weapons cache's that was used in the war. Again, it was incredible to learn about some of the underground tactics used in the war.
Overall, it was an extremely enlightening day and we would thoroughly recommend such a tour, especially if you are into your history! Check out the OneTrip YouTube Channel:

The Streets of Saigon on Motorbike | Ho Chi Minh City | Vietnam
See what it’s like to ride through the streets of Saigon from District 1 to District 2 on a motorbike. Taste the fervor of the traffic. See what it’s like first-hand as this video is filmed from the backseat of a motorbike. Ho Chi Minh City is a motorbike-crazed place, streets filled with two-wheelers zipping along at all hours of the day and night. What an experience riding with thousands of motorbikes in – almost – perfect harmony.
Can you count the number of Grab motorbike drivers (with green helmets)?
The Vietnam war museum is heavy: HO CHI MINH CITY
Ho Chi Minh City and the Vietnam war museum is a place you should put into your itinerary. The museum is great place to learn more about the war, and many untold stories of the people. Be prepared because the museum is quite heavy, and it's hard to not leave that place with many provoking thoughts. Ho Chi Minh City is a giant city that is vibrant in it's own rights, we did not stay too long there as I got sick, and we need to move on to see more of Southeast Asia, Cambodia, Angkor Wat, here I come!

Vietnam War Remnants Museum-Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
The War Remnants Museum in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) features photographic exhibits and war memorabilia from the Vietnam War and the story is told from the point of view of the Communist North Vietnamese government. As I say in the video, it's best not to eat before viewing some of the photographs, which can be quite graphic.
The museum originally opened in 1975 as the Exhibition House for US and Puppet Crimes located in the premises of the former United States Information Agency building. In 1990, the name changed to Exhibition House for Crimes of War and Aggression, dropping both U.S. and Puppet. In 1995, following the normalization of diplomatic relations with the United States and end of the US embargo from a year before, the references to war crimes and aggression were dropped from the museum's title as well; it became the War Remnants Museum It is one of the most popular museums in Vietnam, attracting approximately half a million visitors every year. According to the museum's own estimates, about two-thirds of these are foreigners.

TRAVEL HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM - Visiting Ben Tanh Market, HCMC Museum, and Thien Hau Temple
We had an amazing first day in Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon District 1. We started our day with a great breakfast at our hostel, walked over to the Ben Tanh Market, then to the Ho Chi Minh Museum, and then an uber to the Buddhist Temple in China Town. Finally, we witnessed how the Vietnamese celebrate a football win!

4 DAYS IN VIETNAM |4日間のベトナム旅
Direct flights from Fukuoka to Hanoi only take 3.5~4 hours, and run every Tuesday and Saturday, so when Tatsu got 5 days holiday, we knew exactly how we wanted to spend it.
We spent 2 days in Old Quarter, in the heart of Hanoi City, eating all the food, sightseeing, and hanging out with the cool volunteer tour guides from Hanoi Kids ( ). I mention that everything is cheap in Vietnam, but to give you an idea of just how cheap, our centrally located Hotel was $28 USD a night, for a room much bigger than any $100 hotel in Japan.
A bowl of Pho will cost about $2 USD. Tatsu and I could have a filling lunch for about $5 USD. Vietnamese Beer costs about $1 USD, and is a welcoming refreshment on a hot day.
Taxis can scam you, so you'll have to be careful and make sure they use the metre when you are riding, but we could get around town for on average, $3-4 USD per ride. Much cheaper than what we pay in Japan. The 40 minute drive to the airport cost $15 USD by Taxi. In Japan you'd expect to pay much, much more for the distance.
For our entire trip we budgeted $300 USD for spending for the two of us ($150 usd each), and we still had money left over by the time we got to the airport to fly back to Fukuoka. We aren't budget travellers and don't try to save money, so if you are someone who prefers to spend less money, it's definitely possible.
Then we took a tour to Halong Bay, a Unesco World Heritage Site, featuring over 1,600 islands. The scale was so vast and incredible, and the tour was really relaxing and a well-deserved break from our busy life in Japan. (Did I mention we had no WiFi, so we were totally disconnected during those two days as well!)
We booked with AClass Tours, and although we booked the Legend cruise, we got upgraded to the Stella Cruise, which was more expensive, nicer bedroom, for no extra cost. ($120 USD for each of us.) The $120 each covered the 3.5 hour shuttle bus round trip, accommodation on the boat (beautiful ocean-view suite), all the national park entry fees (maze cave, floating village), four meals (lunch, dinner, breakfast, lunch), free wine tasting on ship, and even my visa letter. (Canadians need to apply for a visa before arriving in Vietnam, Japanese don't. The company I booked through took care of my Visa letter for free with reservation of the cruise.)
I booked on
(This isn't sponsored by the way, I'm just writing this all down because when I was planning the trip I had a really hard time figuring out all this stuff myself. Hopefully this helps anyone who wants to plan their own trip!)

3 Days in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam | Park Hyatt Saigon, Mekong Delta, Cu Chi Tunnels | Honeymoon Vlog
The first stop of our honeymoon was in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Most people will seek the beautiful views in Vietnam but since Robin had already been to Hanoi, we decided to explore the South where the culture is more progressive and the food is supposedly better.
Vietnam has 95M people and 75M scooters, they are everywhere! Traffic is terrible but thankfully the city is small and very walkable (my favorite). We enjoyed lots of street food including sea snails and sugar cane juice at Ben Thanh Street Food Market. The city comes alive at night where you’ll see several young couples on boba dates (#ILoveTaiwan). We also learned a lot on our tours through Green Era Travel to the Mekong Delta and the Cu Chi Tunnels, an underground network of tunnels that the Vietnamese used during the Vietnam War.
I loved Vietnam! This vlog is a pretty good example of how we spent our honeymoon in the other destinations, Bangkok and Siem Reap, eating a lot and learning as much as we could about the culture. Let me know if you want to see the other places too!

Please read below for full transcript:
I hope you've got your game face on because this is Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
It is alive and bustling and as a traveler it welcomes you in with open arms, spins you around a couple of times and spits you out the other end.
This place is fantastic.
If its action, colour and culture you'reafter then you're in the right place.
“Welcome to Vietnam”
Scenic have opened the doors to Vietnam’s capital, Ho Chi Minh City.
Most of it’s highlights are based around the town center, so hitting the pavement is one of the best ways to take it all in.
The Scenic walking tour takes in all the key spots and one of the hubs of activity is the French Quarter, home to the Notre Dame cathedral and the rather eye catching central post office.
It feels like the whole city has come out to play.
So this is one of our stop offs and the idea behind the bird café is that instead of taking their dogs for a walk in the park, they bring the birds down here to the café; they sing beautifully and you can enjoy some of the local Vietnamese coffee.
The cafe's and parks are an important escape from the busy life style.
Cho Ben Thanh is a fantastic introduction to the markets in Vietnam.
David: “This is the dragon fruit that we have for breakfast?”
Guide: “Yeah you know the Vietnamese people we can have for breakfast after your lunch or for dessert we love it”
David: “It’s very popular over here isn't?”
Guide: “Very popular”
Plenty of visitors come through each day so everything is under the one roof and it's all very organized.
There's a bubbling vibe throughout the lane ways.
Guide: “In Vietnam for long times ago not long
times ago
David: “You look like a monk”
Guide: “Yeah I know. You know, most of the Vietnamese women
they wear this they called traditional hat; they wear long dress beautiful with the top hat together”
The other way to check out Ho Chi Minh City is on a 1968 Vespa Sprint.
Isn't she beautiful? This is how you get the true pulse of the streets. Woo hoo!
The Scenic Vespa tour gives you a taste of what it's like to be a local in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is one of the best experiences if you want the city served up with a bit of adventure.
With all that exploring done it's now time to take a look at where Scenic put you up and don’t for one minute
think you will be roughing it.
David: “Oh thank you”
The famous Caravelle hotel is one of your special stays, its main focus is on five-star luxury and comfort.
It's Saigon Saigon bar was one of the key locations in the Vietnam War as you can literally see all the action unfold.
The view these days is a little bit different.
My thoughts on the Vietnam War Museum | Ho Chi Minh City
Well today was slightly depressing as we paid a visit to the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The museum is centered around the war taking place in and around Vietnam from the 1950's - 70's in a conflict mainly involving the North Vietnamese against the South Vietnamese and their American allies. While in the United States we generally refer to it as the Vietnam War in Vietnam it is known as The Resistance War Against America (Kháng chiến chống Mỹ) or simply The American War.
It's a place everyone should see if you visit the nation's capital of Ho Chi Minh, aka Saigon. While it doesn't make for an easy or light hearted day, the war played a huge part of Vietnam's recent history and is what put the current government there into power. Besides the political implications, many citizens, especially in rural areas, are still dealing with the effects from the chemical weapons used, known as agent orange.
I think it's important to keep the darker parts of history alive so that hopefully future generations can find a way not to repeat the past. I also think it's remarkable that a county which was at full out war with mine not so long ago is now one of our allies and one of my favorite places in the world to visit.

Is Cu Chi REALLY Worth Visiting? - Vietnamese Coffee Problem ????????
In this travel video, it is about the journey that we are guided by our foreigner friends who have lived in Saigon for a long time. This day trip we had is not so far from Saigon ( Ho Chi Minh City ) - we do it all by ourselves and we think this is definitely what you should not miss while traveling to Vietnam. Have you heard of the Cu Chi tunnel? - it is an immense network of connecting tunnels and was the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War. The tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous North Vietnamese fighters... Getting to know how people live their lives in the tunnel back then was mind-blowing for us... For example, back then they use coconut water instead of IV in the tunnel and there are people alive today from that... If this stuff is something that interest you, make sure to watch this video.
