A glance at the fortress atop a hill by the sea in Vladivostok. The artillery at the fortress has resided there for decades - and the museum, though small, merits a visit by anyone interested in Russian military history.

Taking a stroll through the city center, it is impossible to walk past Vladivostok’s Arbat – the so-called pedestrian section of Admiral Fokin Street – as it is one of the favorite places of Vladivostok residents and tourists alike. In the nineties, due to the many kiosks and stalls selling cheap Chinese consumer goods there, the street was dubbed simply Commercial or “Shopping Street.”
However, in the new century, it transformed; the atmosphere itself changed on the street – which descends directly to the sea, into the Sports Harbor. Sparkling fountains, distinctive raised garden beds, and convenient benches appeared. The historic buildings along the street house cozy cafes, trendy shops, and budget hostels.
The Arbat has already established its own traditions: friends get together here; business meetings are conducted and romantic rendezvous take place. In the summer, there are often street performers, and the interior courtyards of “Millionka” – the preserved environs of the early 20th century Chinatown – surely attract fans of historical arcana and oriental exoticism.
Going further down the Arbat will bring you directly onto the “Sport Harbor” Promenade. It is quite possible to dedicate a few hours taking a leisurely walk through this area. The central city beach, a marina with sailboats, the sea breeze, and the outline of Sandy Cape on the other side of the bay – are all there at your disposal.
Strolling along the shore, you can get your portrait done by one of Vladivostok’s remarkable artists, who will complete it literally within thirty minutes. Be sure to keep your eye out for Tiger Alley – where on thirteen stone tiles tiger tracks are depicted and the names are written of the countries where these rare cats currently live. The presence of such an alley makes complete sense given that Primorye is Amur (Siberian) Tiger country.
If you are traveling with children, check out the amusement park. There is a carousel and bumping cars for kids, as well as a Ferris wheel that offers a beautiful view of the harbor and downtown. Looking out at Vladivostok from on high, you will see for yourself how hills grace the landscape that this city is spread across.
Just a few steps away from the waterfront is the aquarium (oceanarium) where two exhibition halls are located. (In the first) displayed in glass cases, are collections of seashells, corals, sponges, fish, and a variety of marine animals. In the large round hall, inhabitants of Far Eastern freshwater reservoirs, Peter the Great Bay, and tropical seas are apportioned in thirteen aquaria. In four cold-water aquariums, denizens of the Seas of Japan and Okhotsk are distributed.
To the left of the Oceanarium begins a sweeping staircase that leads to the Vladivostok Fortress Museum. This unique historical site will be intriguing to anyone interested in the naval history of the Russian Far East. The museum also contains a rare collection of bricks produced in Primorskiy factories in the early 20th century.
The walls of the buildings surrounding this square became a platform for the works of world-famous graffiti artists. In 2013, American Gabriel Spector depicted a DNA molecule as a symbol of the connection among all people on Earth. Japanese artist Yuma created black and white graffiti with the words Underwater Party. And New York painter Gaia drew a bright tiger on the wall, protected by human hands. Adjacent to the square is the bar Mumiy Troll – definitely go in there if you want to hear music with great club sound. The cuisine here, by the way, is multinational.

Russia: Japanese Navy vessels dock in Vladivostok on visit
Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force ships docked at the main Russian Pacific Fleet naval base in Vladivostok, Saturday.
Two Japanese vessels, the Harusame destroyer and Kashima training ship, arrived on a visit. Delivering a welcoming speech, Rear Admiral Koji Manabe stated that the Japanese naval vessels were to visit eight countries and 13 ports, including several in North and South America.

Naval Fortress: Vladivostok Coastal Defense [World of Warships]
The Russians are here to stay — that was the motto of the Russian engineers who designed the Vladivostok Fortress. The Voroshilov Battery was erected in just two years, from 1932 to 1934. It includes two turret mounts taken from battleship Poltava. The turret — weighing 900 tons — can be rotated manually, you only need ten men for this. A coastal fortress that didn't fire a single shot in a war —because the enemy thought that they were at a disadvantage and would not dare to attack it. It is this silence in times of war that made it extraordinarily successful.

History of the Far Eastern Soviet Republic
This video tells the short history of the Far Eastern Soviet Republic of 1920 to 1922, and talks a little bit about the Allied intervention of Russia.
Little mistake: In the video I call it the Far Eastern Soviet Republic, but now I see that as a mistake, the name as actually Far Eastern Republic.

Voroshilov Battery 305-mm turret artillery battery on Vladivostok Russky Island's, Russia
Vladivostok Russia, Russky Island's military battery.
Russky Island was secret and it was only opened up to non military in 2009 including the local Russians.
The total area occupied by Vladivostok’s Fortress is 400 sq.
kilometers, with Russky Island’s defense system composing about 100 sq. kilometers of this. By 1915 there were 16 forts and 27 batteries on the island guarding the coast. The simultaneous volley of all of the island’s cannons was equal to 1,500 shells.
The 305-mm turret artillery battery was the first and the last battery of such high caliber, created in the soviet period. Fortunate location and powerful fortification facilities made it virtually invulnerable for enemy's fire. Battery's turrets were connected by underground 250-meter long passage. Each of them had three stories of underground ammunition stores, living quarters and maintenance rooms underneath it. Thanks to three-meter thick concrete vault, the Voroshilov Battery could withstand a hit by an aircraft bomb weighing one ton. Its guns were able hit targets at 35 kilometers' distance, and all six weapons could be brought in motion simultaneously at that. The battery fired its first shot in 1939. It should be noted that, being over 63 years on action station, the battery fired only practice shots.
It was positioned on the height in the southeast of Russky Island, near the largest bay Novik. It was planned to make the battery invisible from the sea using land's natural landscape for disguise. The construction lasted over two years, during which most rock excavations, concrete and underground works were done. Two turret launch facilities, taken from the battleship Poltava, were used for battery's arming. Barges brought gun tubes and turrets' parts to Russky Island, and then they were delivered to the installation site by specially built rail. In 1934, the construction of the coastal battery was finished and it was given the name of Kliment Voroshilov - People's Commissar for defence of the Soviet Union.

Vladivostok was founded in 1860. The city’s history is connected with dozens of outstanding people – Russian navy officers, seafarers, scientists, explorers. The city developed largely as the Russian naval base on the Pacific coast.
The city enjoyed the free port status between 1862 and 1909. Duty-free trade provided for rapid development of Vladivostok and attracted foreign capital. But the real impetus to the city’s transformation into a large commercial and industrial center of the Far East was given by construction of Trans-Siberian Railway (commenced in 1891), Vladivostok Commercial Seaport (1890) and Vladivostok Fortress (from 1898).

SberCamp Quest is an event for Russian bloggers (youtubers, instagrammers, livejournalists), managed by SberBank.
Sberbank is an oldest and largest bank in Russia.
50 bloggers from all over Russia separated for 7 teams and participated in real quest around Vladivostok. They went to different locations like Sollers Mazda Factory, construction area of The Golden Horn residential complex, an old yard behind GUM department store in the historical city center, and other.
All teams were comleting different tasks with a SberCamp application for iOs and Android. Every participant had it in ta phone. They received a digital currency as a points which is called Sberlinks.
It was an interesting and original move of Sberbank to promote their brand around social networks like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and LiveJournal. Because Sberbank organized a very nice way to explore the city, playing such an interesting quest game.
Being in such a places like Mazda factory, Coca Cola, penthouse of one of the highest buildings, and historical showplaces every blogger wanted to film and photograph all around and share it with their audience. When 50 popular bloggers posted all of that stuff in the same time, in total millions of their subscribers saw that.
