Wynand-Fockink one of the oldest liqueur distilleries of Amsterdam
You will find the Wynand Fockink Proeflokaal (Dutch for tasting tavern) and liquor store in the Pijlsteeg, an alley behind the National Monument on the Dam square in Amsterdam. In around 1679 Wynand Fockink started a liqueur distillery.
Soon a Proeflokaal was added, where customers could taste and buy the products. To this day, this practice has continued; here liqueurs and genevers are still being made using the same 17th century traditional craft methods.
Wynand Fockink produces more than 70 Dutch liqueurs and genevers which can be tasted in an authentic 17 century environment in the old time honoured way of bowing to the drink and slurping the first sip from a traditional tulip glass.

De ontmanteling van Vladimir Poetins ‘geheime spaarpot’ in A'dam.

Haha jk! It was just Alma being my date everywhere we went! Amsterdam was very lovely! Food was delicious and we did a fair amount of touristy and non-touristy things. First thing we did was swing at a tiny park around 10pm after eating and tried to go grocery and thrift shop shopping. The next day we went to the Van Gogh Museum and went around the small markets, mom and pop shops and hipster food trucks. I wasn't allowed to film at the Van Gogh Museum so sorry about that! Later that night we also went to a Jazz show and I tried my first vodka coke. It was a very lovely night and the music and people were all amazing. There was a super cute guy there too but language barriers yo! ;w; Haha Lastly we visited the Vondel Park, rode a 2 seat bicycle, and went to the Anne Frank Museum. I think I have very nice fond memories of Amsterdam bc it kind of felt like being back in Downtown LA which I began to extremely miss at the time.
But yeah if you ever find yourself in Amsterdam, I recommend you hunting down the Food Crib Food Truck! They sell very filling hot dogs and burgers! Plus they taste amazing!!
Anyways...I'm very rambly rn. Hope you guys enjoy and have a great day!

It is at this point about 1270year was founded in Amsterdam fishermen built a dam («DAM» translated from Dutch means nothing, as a dyke), and gateway to the main river current in Amsterdam - Amstel (Dutch for «Amstel»). As a result of this significant event a small hamlet with a dozen homes received the name «Amsteledamme», which over the years became Amsterdam.
AMSTERDAM - Netherlands Travel Guide | Around The World
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. With more than one million inhabitants in its urban area (and almost two and a half million inhabitants in its metropolitan area), it is the country's largest city and its financial, cultural, and creative centre.
Amsterdam derives its name from the city’s origin as “Dam” of river “Amstel”. In the past, the name was Amstelredamme which later changed as “Amsterdam”. Amsterdam is one of the most popular destinations in Europe, attracting over 7 million international travellers annually.
Amsterdam is colloquially known as Venice of the North because of its lovely canals that criss-cross the city, its impressive architecture and more than 1,500 bridges. There is something for every traveller's taste here; whether you prefer culture and history, serious partying, or just the relaxing charm of an old European city.
Amsterdam has one of the most extensive historic city centres in Europe, with about 7,000 registered historic buildings. The street pattern has been largely unchanged since the 19th century — there was no major bombing during World War II. The centre consists of 90 islands linked by 400 bridges, some of which are attractively floodlit at night.
The inner part of the city centre, the Old Centre, dates from medieval times. The oldest streets are the Warmoesstraat and the Zeedijk located in the Nieuwmarkt area of the Old Centre. As buildings were made of wood in the Middle Ages, few buildings from the period have survived. Exceptions are two medieval wooden houses at Begijnhof 34 and Zeedijk 1. Other old houses are Warmoesstraat 83 (built around 1400), Warmoesstraat 5 (around 1500) and Begijnhof 2-3 (around 1425). The Begijnhof is a late-medieval enclosed courtyard with the houses of beguines, Roman Catholic women living in a semi-religious community. Beguines are found in Northern France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and north-western Germany. Number 34 Begijnhof is the oldest house in Amsterdam. Entry to the courtyard and surrounding gardens is free, but be careful not to disturb the community living here.
Amsterdam has an amazing collection of museums, ranging from masterpieces of art to porn, vodka and cannabis. The most popular ones can get very crowded in the summer peak season, so it's worth exploring advance tickets or getting there off-peak (e.g. very early in the morning). Some of the quality museums that you can't miss: Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum , Anne Frank House.
The locals spend their summer days in Amsterdam opening a red wine in the Vondelpark — and so should you. Every district in Amsterdam has at least one park, but the Vondelpark in South is notable for its size and convivial atmosphere. The neighbourhood best known for its greenery is the Plantage. Besides its leafy boulevards and grand mansions, it also features the botanical gardens of the Hortus Botanicus. Finally, Artis Zoo is a good attraction for the kids.
The Red Light District consists of several canals, and the side streets between them, south of Central Station and east of Damrak. Known as 'De Wallen' (the quays) in Dutch, because the canals were once part of the city defences (walls and moats). Prostitution itself is limited to certain streets, mainly side streets and alleys, but the district is considered to include the canals, and some adjoining streets (such as Warmoesstraat and Zeedijk). The whole area has a heavy police presence, and many security cameras. Nevertheless it is still a residential district and has many bars and restaurants, and also includes historic buildings and museums — this is the oldest part of the city. The oldest church in Amsterdam, the Netherlands-gothic Oude Kerk on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal at Oudekerksplein, is now surrounded by window prostitution. The area has many sex shops and peep show bars. This section of town is a common attraction for bachelors celebrating a stag night, if you ever get hassled, a firm and loud Leave me alone will work most of the time.
Amsterdam is renowned for its liberal drug policy. Coffeeshops, not to be confused with coffeehouses or cafes, are allowed to sell cannabis and hash for personal use (not more than 5 grams). While technically still illegal, mostly to comply to international treaties, personal use of (soft) drugs are regulated by the Ministry of Justice under an official policy of gedogen; literally this means to accept or tolerate, legally it is a doctrine of non-prosecution on the basis that action taken would be so highly irregular as to constitute selective prosecution. The city council of Amsterdam allows coffeeshops to operate only with the provision of set, non-transferable licenses as shown by an official green and white sticker on the window of a coffeeshop. Coffeeshops are to sell only soft drugs (such as cannabis), selling of other drugs is not allowed. Also selling of dried hallucinogenic mushrooms is not allowed.

10 Ways to Fall in Love with Amsterdam on a Budget
10 Ways to Fall in Love with Amsterdam on a Budget
Amsterdam can be a very expensive city to visit. With its rich culture, endless museums and high-end restaurants, it may seem impossible to immerse yourself in the Dutch culture without spending money. But to really get to know Amsterdam and fall in love with it, you do not need to waste a lot of money at all. Have a look at top 10 ways to fall in love with Amsterdam on a budget.
#10. Rent a bike and get to know the city like a local
Cycling around Amsterdam is the best way to really get to know the city. Since Amsterdam is not very big, a bike is really the only means of transportation you need to go anywhere you want. Cycling in Amsterdam is also an incredibly pleasant experience, since the entire city gives off the impression it was made to be explored on a bike. Renting a bike is also quite affordable – average prices are around 8-10 EUR for a day.
#9. Discover the secret courtyard of Begijnhof
While cycling around the city center, do not forget to check out this hidden gem. Begijnhof is one of the oldest inner courts in Amsterdam, but can be quite tricky to find – it is located within the Singel, the innermost canal of Amsterdam’s circular canal system. It is surrounded with 47 typical Dutch tall houses; yet what makes them different from most courts is that each one of them has its individual character and is not just a part of a unified row. The court also has one of only two wooden houses that still exist in the center of Amsterdam, which dates back to 1528.
#8. Visit the Cannabis College
This non-profit foundation should be a part of your Amsterdam tour, regardless of whether you are a lover of the plant or not. Its goal is to educate about the hemp plant and its many uses, as well as offer free advice on safe use of cannabis. And if you want the perfect Amsterdam experience, make sure you visit their organic, fully-flowering cannabis garden in the basement of the college. It is one of the world’s only publicly accessible flowering cannabis gardens, so make sure you do not miss out.
#7. Take a late night walk in the Red Light District
The Red Light District, or De Wallen, is the most well-known red-light district in Amsterdam and probably the world. It contains approximately three hundred one-room cabins rented by prostitutes, illuminated with red lights, which is also where the district gets its name from. And even though a late night walk around the area may not seem as the most romantic idea, it is definitely a unique experience that you have to have in order to really get to know Amsterdam in all of its colors.
#6. Take an evening stroll by the canals
It is not until after sunset that Amsterdam gets its truly magical appeal and just being the in city at night is a great experience by itself. But if you decide to take a long, romantic walk in the “grachtengordel”, or “canal belt”, the glow of the bridge lights and the shimmering water will make you feel like you have just entered a fairy tale
#5. Visit Albert Cuypmarkt
There are many food markets to choose from in Amsterdam, but Albert Cuypmarkt is the largest market in Amsterdam and Europe in general. The best part is that it is open every day except on Sundays from 9am to 5pm, which means you can definitely find a time to check it out during your stay in the city, regardless of how short it may be.
#4. Enjoy some authentic street food
Although Amsterdam in typically not a very popular foodie destination, it does have some very unique street foods to offer. Fries with an endless variety of interesting toppings (from mayonnaise to peanut butter) are a must-try when roaming the streets of Amsterdam.
