Volgograd (Russian: Волгогра́д; IPA: [vəlɡɐˈɡrat] ( listen)), formerly Tsaritsyn (Russian: About this sound Цари́цын (help·info)), 1589–1925, and Stalingrad (Russian: About this sound Сталингра́д (help·info)), 1925–1961, is an important industrial city and the administrative center of Volgograd Oblast, Russia. It is 80 kilometers (50 mi) long,[11] north to south and is situated on the western bank of the Volga River, after which the city was named.
The city became famous for its resistance during the Battle of Stalingrad against the German Army in World War II. It is often regarded as the largest and bloodiest battle in the history of warfare.

The city of Volgograd marked the 75th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi troops in the Battle of Stalingrad with a military parade on Friday.
The governor of the Volgograd region, Andrei Bocharov opened the event. “The greatest battle on the Volga River finished with the victory of Soviet troops, our Soviet people over the Fascist occupiers on the 2nd February 1943,” he said, adding that, “Stalingrad, the great city on the Volga river, the 'city-hero' was protected by the whole country”.

Торжественный парад в Волгограде, посвященный 72-й годовщине Победы в Великой Отечественной войне (9 мая 2017 г.)
Сталингра́дская би́тва — сражение Второй Мировой войны, важный эпизод Великой Отечественной войны между РККА и Вермахтом с союзниками. Происходила на территории современных Воронежской, Ростовской, Волгоградской областей и Республики Калмыкия Российской Федерации с 17 июля 1942 по 2 февраля 1943 года. Немецкое наступление продолжалось с 17 июля по 18 ноября 1942 года, его целью был захват большой излучины Дона, волгодонского перешейка и Сталинграда (современный Волгоград). Осуществление этого плана блокировало бы транспортное сообщение между центральными районами СССР и Кавказом, создало плацдарм для дальнейшего наступления с целью захвата кавказских месторождений нефти. За период ноябрь-январь советской армии удалось заставить немцев увязнуть в оборонительных боях, окружить группировку немецких войск в результате операции «Уран», отбить деблокирующий немецкий удар «Винтергевиттер» и сузить кольцо окружения к городской черте Сталинграда. Окруженные капитулировали 2 февраля 1943 года, в том числе 24 генерала и фельдмаршал Паулюс.
Эта победа после череды поражений 1941—1942 годов стала переломной в войне. По количеству суммарных безвозвратных потерь (убитые, умершие от ран в госпиталях, пропавшие без вести) воевавших сторон Сталинградская битва стала одной из самых кровавых в истории человечества: советские воины — 478 741 (323 856 в оборонительной фазе сражения и 154 885 в наступательной), немецкие — около 300 000[10], немецкие союзники (итальянцы, румыны, венгры, хорваты) — около 200 000 человек, число погибших горожан невозможно установить даже приблизительно, но счёт идёт не менее чем на десятки тысяч. Военным значением победы стало снятие угрозы захвата вермахтом Нижнего Поволжья и Кавказа, особенно нефти с бакинских месторождений. Политическим значением стало отрезвление союзников Германии и понимание ими того факта, что войну выиграть невозможно. Турция отказалась от вторжения в СССР весной 1943 года, Япония не начала планируемый Сибирский поход, Румыния (Михай I), Италия (Бадольо), Венгрия (Каллаи) стали искать возможности для выхода из войны и заключения сепаратного мира с Великобританией и США.
К 23 августа 1942 года из 400 тысяч жителей Сталинграда было эвакуировано около 100 тысяч. 24 августа Городской комитет обороны Сталинграда принял запоздалое постановление об эвакуации женщин, детей и раненых на левый берег Волги. Все граждане, включая женщин и детей, работали над постройкой траншей и других фортификационных сооружений.
23 августа силы 4-го воздушного флота произвели самую долгую и разрушительную бомбардировку города. Немецкая авиация разрушила город, убила более 90 тысяч человек, уничтожила более половины жилого фонда довоенного Сталинграда, превратив тем самым город в громадную территорию, покрытую горящими руинами. Ситуация усугубилась тем, что после фугасных бомб германские бомбардировщики сбросили зажигательные бомбы. Образовался огромный огненный вихрь, который дотла сжёг центральную часть города и всех его жителей. Пожар перекинулся на остальные районы Сталинграда, так как большинство зданий в городе были построены из дерева или имели деревянные элементы. Температура во многих частях города, особенно в его центре, доходила до 1000 С. Подобное потом повторится в Гамбурге, Дрездене и Токио.
В 16 часов 23 августа 1942 года ударная группировка 6-й немецкой армии прорвалась к Волге близ северной окраины Сталинграда, в районе посёлков Латошинка, Акатовка, Рынок.

Welcome to Volgograd Marathon! It`s going to be a very long vlog, that`s why you should prepare some tea and cookies before you start watching it. I have also made time codes.
Do you like to run? Have you ever dreamt of running a marathon? As we live in Russia and show you real life in Russia with the help of our simple vlogs, we can`t get to London Marathon that is famous all over the world. But we want to show you a great event in our hometown. It is Volgograd Maraton 2019.
It is a famous marathon 2019 full race, the whole city prepares for it in advance.
It is not just a marathon race, but a big fest for different sportsmen of all ages and for all Volgograd citizens. You can meet interesting people, get marathon run motivation and become a real marathon runner here, even if you have decided to try running a marathon for the first time or running a marathon without training.
Today I want to show you our young Russian Sportsmen. They are so small but already know how to run a marathon like grown-ups.
My son is also a marathon racer. And you can watch him running a marathon in Russia.
It was a great day and I`ll be glad to share it with you!

Travel to Volgograd
This weekend my friend and I made a trip to the great city of Russia,Volgograd. Visited Mamayev Kurgan, saw mother's Homeland, walked through the streets of Volgograd. It was memorable. We are waiting for a new journey.
