VOTIVKIRCHE IN VIENNA
Neo-gothic beauty in Vienna dating from 1879. The 26 year old architect Heinrich von Ferstel won the competition for the plan. The church was erected as a thankful remembrance (votiv) for the unsuccessful attack on emperor Frans Jozef in 1853.

The Votivkirche (or Votive Church) is a neo-Gothic church in downtown Vienna, the capital of Austria. It was built to thank God for saving the live of Emperor Franz Joseph when he was attacked with a knife in an assassination attempt in 1853.

I have always had a great interest in nature and photography. During the higher education in Art and Design foundation course I tried my hand at photography and the darkroom process. That then lead me on to my interest in photography; subsequently this lead to me enrolling onto HND Photography course so I could gain more knowledge and skills. To increase my skills and chances of further employment I enrolled on a BA Honours Creative Imaging. My other interests also include taking videos and documenting various public events via videos whilst away and at home.

Die Wiener Votivkirche, eine römisch-katholische Kirche nächst der Ringstraße im Gemeindebezirk Alsergrund in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft zum Hauptgebäude der Universität Wien gelegen, ist eines der bedeutendsten neugotischen Sakralbauwerke der Welt. Die Entstehung des Ringstraßendoms, errichtet durch den Architekten Heinrich Ferstel, geht auf das Attentat auf den jungen Kaiser Franz Joseph I. am 18. Februar 1853 durch den Schneidergesellen János Libényi zurück. Mit einer Höhe von 99 Metern ist die Votivkirche die zweithöchste Kirche Wiens.
Franz Josephs Bruder, Erzherzog Ferdinand Maximilian, der spätere Kaiser von Mexiko, rief nach dem Attentat „zum Dank für die Errettung Seiner Majestät“ zu Spenden auf, um in Wien eine neue Kirche zu bauen. Die Kirche sollte als Votivgabe (Dankgeschenk) der Völker der Monarchie für die Errettung Franz Josephs errichtet werden. 300.000 Bürger folgten dem Spendenaufruf. Im neuen Dom sollten alle Nationen der Donaumonarchie ihre geistige und politische Heimat finden.
Der Kirchenbau wurde in einem Architektenwettbewerb im April 1854 ausgeschrieben, 75 Projekte von Architekten aus der Donaumonarchie, Deutschland, England und Frankreich wurden eingereicht. Die Jury entschied sich für das Projekt des damals erst 26-jährigen Architekten Heinrich Ferstel. Ursprünglich war für die Kirche ein Bauplatz in der Nähe des Schlosses Belvedere geplant gewesen. Diese Idee wurde jedoch auf Grund der Entlegenheit aufgegeben. Schließlich wurde als Baugrund ein Grundstück im Gebiet des abgerissenen Glacis in der Alservorstadt ausgewählt. Die Grundsteinlegung erfolgte am 24. April 1856 durch Kaiser Franz Joseph und Kardinal Rauscher in Anwesenheit von 80 Erzbischöfen und Bischöfen.

Высота церкви составляет 99 метров, и тем самым она занимает среди венских церквей второе место по высоте. На призыв к сбору средств на строительство церкви откликнулось 300 тысяч граждан Австро-Венгерской империи. В конкурсе из 75 проектов победил проект 26-летнего архитектора Генриха фон Ферстеля. Строительство храма продолжалось 23 года. Церковь была освящена 24 апреля 1879 года в день серебряной свадьбы императора.

Ringstraßendom - Die Votivkirche Wiens
Es ist nicht der Stephansdom, auf dem man bei Schottentor trifft – sehenswert ist die Votivkirche trotzdem. Weil der junge Kaiser Franz Joseph 1853 ein Attentat an ihn überleben konnte, ließ sein Bruder ihn zum Dank diese exzellente neugotische Kirche errichten.

Wie jedes Jahr wurde auf Einladung der Kameradschaft der 44. ID eine Division-Gedenkmesse abgehalten. Dieses Mal wieder in der Votikvirche in Wien. Zahlreiche Vertreter aus Nah und Fern, Traditionsverbände, eine Abteilung des österreichischen Bundesheeres u. a. interessierte Besucher der Messe, dachten gemeinsam an den Wahnsinn und an die Opfer des seinerzeitigen Kriegsgeschehens.
