RUBNER SPACESHIP_FUORISALONE 2018
April 2018, a wooden spaceship lands in front of the Castello Sforzesco, in Milan. Leaning on its metal feet, the wooden cabin opens through a door that becomes a ramp allowing visitors to access an evocative and Planet friendly futuristic environment.
The Rubner SpaceShip is the new concept-building exhibited at the 2018 Fuorisalone, a synthesis of technological innovation that Rubner proposes to the Designers according to an Unlimited Design philosophy, with which the Company undertakes to satisfy every request of the Client without any technological and functional limitation.
Designed by Cesare Griffa and Paolo Scoglio, the project started from a partnership between Rubner and IED Istituto Europeo di Design Turin, which involved the students of the Master in Smart Buildings and Sustainable Design in the development of innovative solutions for one of the oldest wooden construction technologies: the Blockhaus system.
Rubner SpaceShip materializes Rubner's gaze towards the Architecture of the Future, using a millennial material like wood according to the codes of generative parametric design and combining it with the most innovative bio-construction strategies and technologies. The wooden module is conceived as a self-sufficient organism capable of exploiting the sun and photosynthesis to produce the energy, food, oxygen and water necessary for the vital support of those who occupy it.
On the one hand, the result of technological innovation in wood processing, on the other hand, an intelligent container of vital processes, the Rubner SpaceShip is configured as a passive module, implementable with bio-responsive technologies that allow it to react actively to the environmental stimuli.
The Rubner SpaceShip, with its pure wooden shell modeled parametrically and worked digitally, realizes the point where the technological and formal research finds its practical application, demonstrating how a traditional construction system can be re-interpreted with the most advanced tools of design and workmanship, up to realize wooden architectures with a virtually unlimited formal repertoire.
The Rubner SpaceShip will land in Milan for the 2018 Fuorisalone and then take off to settle again in the Expo Rubner of Kiens, where it will be open, waiting for the next mission. :)

► MADINA VISCONTI & DEL TORO SHOES present PASTA | by yoox.com
Madina Visconti, Designer of OMV Jewelry, and Matthew Chevallard, Founder and Creative Director
of Del Toro Shoes, have finally come together for a brilliant collaborative collection. Both Italian
born, the two have been friends since their childhood days in Turin. While Matthew’s path lead him
to Miami, and Madina’s to Milan, the two’s passion for creation, Italian artisanship and fashion kept
them in touch, always discussing the possibility of a future collaboration.
And thus an elegant and timeless collection has been born. Madina designed a collection of bronze
pieces, made entirely by hand, based on a variety of traditional Italian pastas. Each piece is then
applied to Del Toro’s new velvet slippers, made for both men and women, available in black or navy.
Every aspect of the collection is hand-made in Italy, from the shoes to the bronze jewels. The idea
was born from the two’s love for Pasta, giving an ironic twist to the icon of what it means to be
Italian. Bronze penne, fusilli and farfalle adorn the delicate shoes, with a touch of eclectic / retro
charm.
“This collaboration” says Matthew Chevallard, “is a smart play on Italian culture and the ubiquitous
nature of pasta and Italian food,” perfectly in line with the Milan-based EXPO2015 theme ‘cibo.’
The slippers will be sold in the OMV Atelier – via Santa Marta 13, 20123 Milan, Italy – and in the Del
Toro boutique – 2750 NW 3rd Ave, Unit 22, 33127 Miami, Florida – for the duration of the grand
event.
Madina Visconti di Modrone – Biography
Nature and jewellery. The two passions of Madina Visconti, who is following in the footsteps of her
mother Osanna, the first in the family to have used her childhood memories to transform her love of
all things precious and sought-after into unique pieces. In fact, the 23 year old designer has created
a line for the brand Osanna e Madina Visconti di Modrone, by combining nature and her keen sense
of style, with the memories of her mother working with wax to create wearable sculptures in
bronze and silver. Nature is a key factor that goes back to her childhood in the garden in Grazzano
Visconti, near Piacenza, where Madina would revel in the different varieties of flowers and plants.
An example of this is a ring that Madina always wears, made from a stone from her garden. In fact,
we start with the collection with ivy headbands, followed by feathers and flowers, a harmonious
synthesis between a contemporary look at the future and a refined past.
From 2014 Madina Visconti, with her mother Osanna, has become an ambassador for yoox.com,
online lifestyle store world leader in fashion, design and art. This collaboration has resulted in
several projects and exclusive collections created especially for yoox.com.
Matthew Chevallard - Biography
Matthew Chevallard, founder and creative director of Del Toro shoes, was born in Torino and grew
up between Torino, Palm Beach, and Miami. Playing with the Visconti children in Italy during his
youth, he fondly remembers “games using pasta,” wanting to create jewelry for his sister and
mother. At 7 years old he moved to Miami and 12 years later at the age of 19 he founded Del Toro
which he describes as catering to “grown up sneaker heads.”
Today his Miami based company still has roots in Italy and these memories from his childhood
continue to inform his creative direction along with being the foundation for his most recent
capsule collection with OMV - Osanna, Madina Visconti di Modrone.
