A visit to the lovely Wat Phrathat Doi Saket temple, about 20 minutes northeast of Chiang Mai. Visible from a far distance due to the high mountain top location, the temple overlooks the city and plains of Doi Saket. A great way to spend an early morning or afternoon, followed up by a cold coffee in the city.

Rare Hesperiidae from Doi Saket Thailand
In a sunny place September 2, 2011 in the Doi Saket area, in an altitude of 905 metres, I found this beautiful Hesperiidae. It was foraging on the many flowering bushes, and with it's extremely long proboscis it could easily reach to the bottom of the lengthy flower and the sweet nectar there. Because of this butterfly's long proboscis, it can sit still, moving only the proboscis and reach other flowers in a radius of several centimetres - a good defense against predators, that normally react on movements. Besides, it also has the possibility of reaching nectar, that other species can't.
This species is very rare and probably never filmed before.

Anyone who knows me will be aware I'm not at all religious, indeed I could be described as anti. However, there's something about events at Buddhist wats in Thailand that makes them really enjoyable. the people laugh, joke, smile, sing and dance and really enjoy themselves. This is so different from the depressing dirges you get in most religions. Apparently, today was just a local thing and despite my best efforts, I have no idea what it was in aid of. But who cares? Everyone including me had a great morning.

The ends of the day- Doi Saket, Thailand
The ends of the day provide the best light both at dawn and at sunset. The 21st December is the shortest day in the northern hemisphere and I decided to try and capture both. Dawn, I recorded with some still photographs as I didn't want people to wake up thinking they were being attacked by a swarm of bees. I put the drone up just before sunset to see what I could capture. Pretty mixed results but some hopefully that you will enjoy.

STICKY RICE HARVESTING THAILAND | Doi Saket rice fields
Yesterday I flew the drone around the sticky rice fields in my area as I was sure that harvesting was imminent. Sure enough, a combine harvester turned up this morning and spent a good few hours gathering the crop. I hope you enjoy this view of rural farming life in Doi Saket on the outskirts of Chiang Mai.

Doi Saket Wednesday Hike - Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand
Chiang Mai has got so much to offer, lots of nature trails, and so many people who understand the beauty if it. As such there are always hikes to join, and this was a recon hike with a fantastic group of people, to scout for new paths. CINEMATIC VLOG | ????????????| Doi Saket
My first attempt at cinematic vlog which I filmed locally in Doi Saket. I was going to go to central Chiang Mai but the weather was looking threatening so I didn't want to stray too far. I will, however, venture into the city when it looks a bit more promising. I started this on Saturday and finally finished on Monday. It is very intense making videos in this style for the first time. Hopefully, it will become easier the more I do.
Please give some feedback on what you think. Would you like to see more videos like this? I do intend to include at least some short cinematic passages in most of my videos in future.
