Wekiwa Springs - Florida State Parks Video
Wekiwa Springs State Park, Apopka Florida.
Located at the headwaters of the Wekiva River, the beautiful vistas within this park offer a glimpse of what Central Florida looked like when Timucuan Indians fished and hunted these lands. Just one hour from most central Florida attractions, Wekiwa Springs offers visitors the opportunity to relax in a natural setting, enjoy a picnic, or take a swim in the cool spring.
Thirteen miles of trails provide opportunities for hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding. Canoeists and kayakers can paddle along the Wekiva River and Rock Springs Run. Canoe and kayak rentals are available from the park's concessionaire. Options for camping include a full facility campground and primitive camping areas.
This is a very popular park, particularly on summer weekends. To ensure entrance, we recommend arriving early; otherwise, the parking area will be full and you may not be able to enter.

This is a natural spring and is a cool 72 degrees fahrenheit year round. I took a day trip up there to use my new snorkel gear and just to relax. Here Is Some History On Wekiwa Springs River:
The Wekiva River (sometimes spelled Wekiwa, a Creek word meaning spring of water[2]) is a 16.0-mile-long (25.7 km) river in Central Florida, north of Orlando in the United States. It originates in Apopka and joins the St. Johns River, the longest river in the state, in DeBary. The Wekiva River system includes the main stem joined by three main tributaries - Rock Springs Run, Blackwater Creek, and the Little Wekiva River - and about 30 contributing groundwater springs.[3] It is designated as a Florida State Canoe Trail, an Outstanding Florida Water, and an Aquatic Preserve by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.[4] The Wekiva River system is also one of the two rivers in Florida federally designated as a National Wild and Scenic River for its scenery, recreation, geology, and diverse habitats.[5]
Wekiwa is the Creek-Seminole word for a spring, but contrary to popular belief that Wekiva means flowing water,[6] it was actually an alternate spelling used by developers.[7] The pronunciation of a soft-w, sometimes perceived as a v or b, resulted in cartographers mislabeling maps in later years. The maps drawn in 1838 and 1849 were spelled Wekiwa.

Freediving Wekiwa Springs || Florida Adventure Series pt. 6
~ Welcome to the Florida Adventure Series sponsored by Lavacore and Patricks Sunscreen! Over the next 10 weeks our team is going to take YOU across Florida showing the best freedive and adventure locations as well as the best spots to get hands on interactions with dangerous and exotic animals. Along the way we will show you the hidden gems you never knew existed while educating our viewers on environmental and animal protection and preservation. This is the REAL Florida! ~
Part 6 is the beginning of the freshwater springs portion of the Florida Adventure Series that begins with Dalton Smith and Russell Sweet traveling to north Florida for our first stop and Wekiwa Springs State Park.
We got some amazing diving in with our new OP4 Oceanpro dive lights but unfortunately Dalton runs into a sinus block where bubbles become trapped within your sinuses and increase in size as you dive causing extreme pain and can even rupture within cavities in your sinuses.
Check out this exciting episode of the Florida Adventure Series and subscribe for next weeks episode as we continue north on a prayer that a stop at CVS and some decongestants will clear Dalton's sinus block in time.
~ Be sure to subscribe and check back every week for a new episode! ~
Special thanks to our sponsors Lavacore and Patricks Sunscreen for making this possible.

Wekiwa Springs Snorkeling Super Clear Florida w kids Entry level Freediving
Wekiwa Springs near Orlando Florida july 09 this is a video with my kids freediving in one of floridas famous springs. it is not the best it is actualy probably one of the smaller springs, but it is possibly one of the clearest. basicaly it is a round pond with an outlet on one side. no swiming is allowed on that side. there are very few fish, except in the cold winter when no one is swiming. vis is probably 40ft+ depth is roughly 4-6ft in most of it kids are walking everywere. and it can get crowded, but for begining snorkelers it is an awsome spot to get in some clear water. being from northern states it was warm enough.

Kayaking Rock Springs Run on the Wakiva River, Fl
The Wekiva River is a 16.0-mile-long river in Central Florida, north of Orlando in the United States. It originates in Apopka and joins the St. Johns River, the longest river in the state.
Also a free-flowing natural spring (Rock Spring - 70 degrees Farenheit year round) issuing from a vertical rock bluff. Rock Springs Run, a clear, swift creek. Beautiful, beautiful !!!!
