I'm an older achy dad living with my wife and two young kids in the state of Vermont in the USA. I focus on sharing reviews and experiences as we strive to live a simple, education and community-focused, techno-eco-friendly, below-our-means lifestyle. That was a mouth full!

I will review almost anything, but to give you an idea of what product, services, or experiences I tend to like, here's a summary of our lifestyle.
SPECIFICALLY, PRODUCTS RELATED TO:
~ Families with young kids that might have an older achy father like me.
~ Organic, healthy, local, low sugar, sustainably sourced foods.
~ The house is full of kids library books, used books, new books.
~ Very little screen time for the kids. No cable TV in the house. Streaming noncommercial video only and educational games or videos (mostly). Vacations and grandparent time is open.
~ Home improvement and energy effeciency.
~ Sustainable, eco-friendly yard and garden products.
~ Electric assist family cargo bikes and regular bikes.
~ My work: Educational technology and instructional design in higher education. I use computers and cameras, etc for work. Mostly Apple computers/devices, classroom technology, online education products, learning management systems, maker stuff, and drones.
~ I have an old tiny Snark sailboat and used to have a canoe.
~ We have egg-laying chickens.
~ We love our indoor/outdoor Siberian forest cat.

There is off-street parking for two vehicles.

The Armory South Portland Maine (Shot on a Canon 60D)
This morning I met with Eric Anderson, well known local special effects artist, and spent some time walking around the Armory located in South Portland Maine. The Armory served as a national guard outpost for many years. Once it was abandoned it eventually made is way back into the hands of the town of South Portland.
Seeking a creative use for the space the town council has been working with Hollywood veteran production designer and art director Eric Matheson who has worked on such films as Empire Falls, The Cider House Rules, and Amistad to name only a few.
Mr. Matheson is leading the Fore River Sound Stage company and is spearheading the efforts to renovate the aging armory and configure it to become a focal point for film production here in the state of Maine and New England. Clearly there is work to be done but given the natural beauty of our state and depth of talent that can be found here and through out New England it seems only fitting that there should be more opportunities for major film production here in Maine. If you agree please feel free to contact your congressman and ask the hard questions on state initiatives and incentives for the film industry. Who knows perhaps someday a film about Maine will actually be able to be filmed here as well.

Portland Maine Shore Excursion
We took the Real Portland Maine Tour, and what a fantastic day! We were given the personalized home-town version tour. The tour guide even took a detour to drive me to the nearest and safest Bank of America ATM location. The best and most photographed lighthouse in the continental United States was sure worth the tour. A truly special tour because all 13 close friends were together in one large van provided by The Real Portland Tour.

Maine is in the midst of a serious cold snap, as temperatures this morning dropped to -13 in Portland. Many locations were even colder, and the forecast is for more of the same in the coming days. There is an upside to all of this — raw beauty. This was the view of Willard Beach today, with Portland Head Light in the distance.

Took a little walk around campus on Feb. 9th after a few days of blizzard conditions. About 31 inches of snow reported and gusts of 50 to 60mph during the entirety of the storm.
