Pensacola Veterans Memorial Park | WSRE
In December of 1987, The Moving Wall — a replica of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial, arrived in Pensacola and was displayed for five days. When it came time for the wall to travel on, some of the veterans who had stood vigil while the wall was in town, decided it was time Pensacola have a permanent monument to honor Vietnam vets.
It was the start of a vision, the beginning of a tribute to those who have served our country in the United States Armed Forces. With the help and support of family, friends, service members, and community and business leaders, their dream became a reality and the Pensacola Veterans Memorial Park was established on Bayfront Parkway. Today, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial is there, and over the years, the park grew to include monuments for WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Gulf War and the conflict in Iraq. WSRE will trace the history of this park with archival photographs and footage, as well as interviews with those who made the dream a reality.

MADISON: Museum of Contemporary Art
MADISON, WI - (CBS2/FOX28) Some refer to it as Mad Town, Lake City or even the Paris of Wisconsin. Whatever you call it, Madison is only about a three hour drive from The Corridor, but it feels like it's a World away.

From a distance it appears to be snow covered mountains, but as visitors walk closer, they can see the illusion created by a wood frame covered in strips of white tape that fills the gallery wall to wall and floor to ceiling. What's so unique is Yi is creating art as you watch and he wants you to watch and even ask questions! Imagine interrupting Pollock or van Gogh to ask why they used blue instead of red? It also flies in the face of classic art that is considered 'suitable for framing,' because Yi intends for his creation to be destroyed! Along with dramatic pieces from our own Grant Wood and a collection of thought-provoking sculptures, it's well worth the three hours in the car and you'll be asking, are we there yet, for all the right reasons. Christophe de Goulaine and his riding companion Anais, Pierre Lauvergeat and Mary stopped at the Madison WI Harley Davidson dealership Sunday 07-29-18 from Milwaukee. They are touring the U.S. in a 1918 Harley Davidson that first arrived on their shores 100 years ago with American doughboys to help France fight World War 1. They are midway through their 5,000 mile trip through the U.S. It’s a trip that began June 21 in Mobile, Alabama, and ran through Jacksonville, Florida, Nashville, Indianapolis, and Chicago. Most Armed Man in America on guns
Michael Koenigs @MikeOnABikeABC reports on Colorado gun shop owner Mel Bernstein who casually known as the “most armed man in America” after acquiring thousands of high-powered weapons, bazookas and machine guns.
His firearms collection dwarfs the number of guns -- 47 -- allegedly found in the Las Vegas hotel suite and two homes of mass shooter Stephen Paddock, for instance, but the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is unable to confirm whether Bernstein has amassed more weapons than any other U. S. gun owner.
“ATF cannot quantify who possesses the most firearms in America because there is no database to reference this information,” an ATF representative wrote in response to an inquiry from ABC News. “A firearm registry or database of individuals who own firearms regulated under the Gun Control Act (GCA) does not exist.”
Bernstein says he has amassed over 4,000 weapons at his Colorado Springs compound, where he also keeps military-style vehicles. The weapons are registered in his name, he says, and he also rents and sells machine guns to his customers.
His gun shop, six shooting ranges, military museum, paintball park, motorcross park and home are located on the 260-acre property known as Dragonland.
“We’ve been selling more guns in the last three weeks than we have in the last eight months,” Bernstein said of his firearms shop called Dragonmans.
As for gun ownership in general, about 3 percent of Americans own about half the country’s 265 million guns, according to a 2016 Harvard-Northeastern survey. Such “super owners” possess an average of 17 guns each, and an estimated 133 million guns in total.
“If anybody comes on your property and threatens you with bodily harm, it’s legal to shoot them, [according to] Colorado law,” Bernstein said as he drove toward his one-story house in which he keeps M-16 machine guns, sawed-off shotguns, and multiple handguns around his bed.
In August, four people used Bernstein’s truck to smash into the Dragonmans gun store and steal 84 guns, police said. Federal authorities have since arrested four suspects, including his stepdaughter and step-grandson, who now face felony charges in connection to the theft of firearms from a federal firearms licensee. They have not entered pleas.
In 2012, his wife, Terry Flanell, 51, was accidentally killed by a smoke bomb on the property while filming a reality-TV pilot for the Discovery Channel.
Now, his home -- decorated with jukeboxes, vintage Cola-Cola memorabilia and model cars -- reminds him of a bygone era.
Bernstein also keeps four female mannequins at the home. “I need someone to talk to, to tell them my problems,” Bernstein said.
He added: “This whole house fixed up like this puts me back in my era, back in the sixties where I belong.”

Jeff Donnelly, Nancy Liebman, and Richard Nagler recall significant events in the 40 year history of the Miami Beach Architectural District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Nancy Liebman is a current Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) board member and MDPL Executive Director from 1987 to 1991. Jeff Donnelly is a thirty year veteran of the MDPL tour program and founder of the MDPL Tour Guide Academy. Richard Nagler published his photography book My Love Affair with Miami Beach in 1991. Their recollections and reflections provide insights into the status of MDPL and the Art Deco District today. Moderated by Susan Askew

Boxcar Moved to Turntable by Forklift at Huntsville Depot
Workers are moving a boxcar to the turntable at Huntsville Depot. As railroad videos go this isn't the most exciting one.
Huntsville's passenger depot was built in 1860. Passenger service ended in the Sixties. For many years the city operated the depot as a museum, but they have closed the museum operation in favor of using the depot for private events.
The modern roundhouse is also now used for events. This roundhouse was built originally for museum use. The Memphis & Charleston Railroad (the city's first railroad) had a roundhouse and shops on the north side of the depot, north of where the ruins of where the burned antebellum freight depot now stand.

Geographic Information Science (GIS) Day 2019
Join us as we celebrate GIS (Geographic Information Science) Day on Nov. 13 with an all-day series of talks on the use of GIS technology and 3D mapping in cultural heritage preservation and disaster response.
GIS Day — held during Geography Awareness Week (Nov. 12-18) — is an annual, global celebration of GIS and mapping technology, with events held by organizations around the world. Formally started in 1999, GIS Day aims to provide a forum to promote the benefits of GIS research, demonstrate real-world applications of GIS and foster open idea sharing and growth in the GIS community.
The Library’s morning session will open with a keynote address by Sen. John Boozman of Arkansas, co-chair of the Congressional French Caucus focusing on Cultural Heritage Preservation Mapping and Congressional Policy. The morning also will feature talks on the aftermath of the Notre Dame Cathedral fire and the use of GIS and computer vision in disaster response planning and cultural heritage preservation.
The afternoon session will concentrate on applications of the technology with case studies on historic building and engineering archives in cultural preservation, advanced spatial analysis and 3D mapping of UNESCO World Heritage sites

Reflections on the First Fifty Years of the Peabody Museum, 1866–1916
Curtis Hinsley, Regents’ Professor Emeritus of History and Comparative Cultural Studies, Northern Arizona University
The Peabody Museum was founded at a time of epistemological and political turmoil, seven years after the publication of Darwin’s On the Origin of Species and one year after the end of the Civil War. The chaotic decades following the war proved to be an era of unprecedented economic opportunity, but also a time of corruption, disillusionment, and oppression. In the world of instruction, museums held the promise of teaching not only scientific facts, but proper values as well; a museum of anthropology might serve a vital moral function in the emerging society. As Peabody director Frederic Putnam wrote in 1891: “Many an indifferent idler straggling into a well-arranged museum goes forth with new ideas and fresh interests” to enrich “an otherwise aimless and weary life.” In this lecture Curtis Hinsley will consider the hopes and intentions of the Peabody Museum in its early years.
