Datong District office in Taipei comes up with unique premium
A creative fad has gripped Taiwan, and Taipei’s district offices are getting into the act, coming up with premiums for their promotional campaigns that have special creative touches. The items have been in such demand that some vendors have asked about selling them commercially. This red mobile phone cover has a likeness of the “Moon Elder” deity printed on it. It may look like a gift sold by a temple featuring the matchmaking god, but it’s actually a promotional premium distributed by the Datong District office. The office used the image of the “Moon Elder” deity from the nearby Xiahai City God Temple to design a series of premium items. Local residents are collecting them, and vendors have asked for authorization to make them commercially.Hsieh Cheng-chunHead of Datong DistrictAfter they were made, they were distributed as part of a campaign, drawing a strong response from local residents. Some vendors even asked us for authorization to sell the items. The Daan District office has promoted book bags with images of relics from the area printed on them, special puzzles, and convenient and insulated bags with cartoon themes. They were all snapped up quickly. Shih Shu-liDaan District Chief SecretaryThere were only limited amounts of the items during the campaigns. I hope (people) will request them earlier next year.The Daan District official said that her office only had samples of the mementos left. For those hoping to get their hands on them, they will have to wait until the office holds its next promotional campaign.

台北霞海城隍廟 怎麼拜月老 美國人 布萊恩 教你 How to Pray to Yuelao at Taipei City God Temple
大家好我是布萊恩~
Hi I’m Brian~
今天的影片去台北霞海城隍廟拜拜,特地去拜月老然後我也順便教大家要怎麼拜~
In today’s video, I go to Taipei God of the City Temple to pray to Yuelao and teach everyone how to pray at this kind of temple~
我住台灣這十年有不少次跟朋友去寺廟拜拜
Over my ten years living here in Taiwan, I’ve been to temples to pray with friends many times.
因為美國沒有很多像台灣這種寺廟,最一開始基本的作法都不會
Since we don’t have many temples like those here, in the beginning, I didn’t know how to pray.
另外每個寺廟拜拜的方式有一些小不同,
Additionally, the way you pray at different temples also varies a bit.
因此我開始去拜拜覺得超級..霹靂..無敵..尷尬!
This made me feel super duper awkward when I started going to temples!
所以我想跟台灣朋友還有美國朋友分享一下最基本的步驟
So, I wanted to share these basic steps with friends from Taiwan and abroad.
希望可以幫大家去寺廟的時候不像以前那麼尷尬
I hope it can help everyone feel less awkward when visiting a temple.

Taipei's oldest neighborhoods: Dihua Street 迪化街 (Díhuà Jiē)
This is Dihua Street Section 2, the part north of Minquan West Road.
Dihua Street (Chinese: 迪化街; pinyin: Díhuà Jiē) is a street located in the Dadaocheng area of Datong District, Taipei, Taiwan winding from the south of the district to close to the north in the old village of Dalongdong. The street, then known as Centre Street (中街), was constructed during the 1850s, when many commercial entities belonging to Quanzhou-originating owners moved in from the nearby village of Bangka. Since then and throughout the rest of the 19th century, Dihua Street has been an important centre for commerce in Taiwanese products and produce such as Chinese medicinal herbs, fabrics, incense materials, and for the post-processing of Taiwanese tea.[1][2]
The name Dihua was given in 1947 by the Republic of China government, in reference to the city of Dihua (now called Ürümqi) in Xinjiang, and effectively joins a string of older streets in this area of Taipei existing prior to the Chinese Civil War. Locals living in the district refer to the portion of the street north of the Minsheng West Road (民生西路) as Dihua North (北街), and the portion south as Dihua south (南街). Being the oldest street in Taipei (with sections in existence since the rule of Dutch Formosa from 1624–1661), its architecture has been under preservation and conservation efforts by the city. Modern Dihua Street along with its surrounding neighborhood and streets, known as the Dihua Street commercial loop (迪化街商圈), remain one of the most commercially active in Taipei with transactions in excess of 3 billion US dollars.[3]

Although a relatively calm street during most times of the year Dihua street bustles with people during the two weeks before Chinese New Year. The residents of Taipei flock to the street during these times to buy necessities for the festivities, while tourists visit for the traditional Fujian decorations, atmosphere, and architecture. The street continues to be a major destination during Chinese New Year festivities, with 750,000 people visiting the street in the two weeks leading up to the holiday.
The hiring of clean-up crews and rental of store-fronts to seasonal merchants during the two weeks is an important source of revenue for many residents.

Special fireworks celebration set to take place tomorrow in Taipei's Dadaocheng
Tomorrow is the Taipei Dadaocheng Fireworks Festival. Special this year will be the launch of fireworks from the water. Tomorrow fireworks will light up the Dadaocheng Wharf. Many people will get their first look at fireworks launched from the water, allowing these fireworks to explode at eye level instead of high in the sky. This three-minute simulation shows fireworks blasting off from the water with colorful explosions overhead. And there is this firework waterfall on the Magpie Bridge, which has been extended from 600 meters to 900 meters.The Hotel Riverview is the closest to the wharf, and all 15 of its rooms facing the show booked long in advance. And the restaurant and other rooms were also booked.Even foreign tourists are attracted to this event. [[五星級飯店業者 楊嘉怡]]我們飯店的view 剛好是面對大稻埕

SUMMARY
=======
Taipei (; Hokkien POJ: Tâi-pak), officially known as Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of the Republic of China. Sitting at the northern tip of the island, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city Keelung. Most of the city is located in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed. The basin is bounded by the relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.The city proper is home to an estimated population of 2,704,810 (2015), forming the core part of the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area, which includes the nearby cities of New Taipei and Keelung with a population of 7,047,559, the 40th most-populous urban area in the world—roughly one-third of Taiwanese citizens live in the metro district. The name Taipei can refer either to the whole metropolitan area or the city proper.
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of the Republic of China and one of the major hubs in East Asia. Considered to be a global city and rated as an Alpha City by GaWC, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area. Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Taipei Songshan and Taiwan Taoyuan. Taipei is home to various world-famous architectural or cultural landmarks, which include Taipei 101, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Dalongdong Baoan Temple, Hsing Tian Kong, Lungshan Temple of Manka, National Palace Museum, Presidential Office Building, Taipei Guest House, Ximending, and several night markets dispersed throughout the city. Natural features such as Maokong, Yangmingshan, and hot springs are also well known to international visitors.
In English-language news reports the name Taipei often serves as a synecdoche referring to Taiwan's national government. Due to the ambiguous political status of Taiwan internationally, the term Chinese Taipei is also sometimes pressed into service as a synonym for the entire country, as when Taiwan's government representatives participate in international organizations or Taiwan's athletes participate in international sporting events.

SUMMARY
=======
Taipei (; Mandarin: [tʰǎipèi]; Hokkien POJ: Tâi-pak), officially known as Taipei City, is the capital and a special municipality of Taiwan (officially the Republic of China, ROC). Located in the northern part of the Island of Taiwan, Taipei City is an enclave of the municipality of New Taipei City that sits about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of the northern port city Keelung.
Taipei is the political, economic, educational, and cultural center of Taiwan and one of the major hubs in East Asia. Considered to be a global city and rated as an Alpha City by GaWC, Taipei is part of a major high-tech industrial area. Railways, high-speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Songshan and Taoyuan.
In English-language news reports the name Taipei often serves as a synecdoche referring to central government of Taiwan. Due to the ambiguous political status of Taiwan internationally, the term Chinese Taipei is also frequently pressed into service as a synonym for the entire country, as when Taiwan's governmental representatives participate in international organizations or Taiwan's athletes participate in international sporting events.
