Daguan Park, Kunming, Yunnan, China
Daguan Park
Source Wikipedia
Daguan Park is a lakeside park located in the southwestern suburb of Kunming, Yunnan, China. Today many locals come to sit, drink tea, fly kites, and go boating. Among shady walks and pools, Daguan's focal point is Daguan Ge, a square, three-storeyed pavilion built to better the Kangxi Emperor's enjoyment of the distant Western Hills and now a storehouse of calligraphy extolling the area's charms. The most famous poem here is a 118-character verse, carved into the gateposts by the Qing dynasty scholar Sun Ran, reputed to be the longest set of rhyming couplets in China. The park is set on Daguan Stream, which flows south into Lake Dian, and there are frequent hour-long cruises down the waterway, lined with willows, to points along Lake Dian's northern shore. Lake Dian, also known as the Kunming Lake, is the largest lake on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. At Longmen of the Western Hills, there is a panoramic view of the lake.

Kunming, Yunnan, Ethnic Village, by Wild China Guide.
Southwest China includes Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangxi provinces and Chongqing municipality. It had long been the Wild, Wild West of China dated back to 221 BC, and people who lived here had long been called as Xinan Yi , literally, southwestern foreigners or barbarians.
The faraway distance to China central inland and the complicated geographic conditions made this mountain-locked corner a remote, underdeveloped region and even nowadays, a less-developed region in China, in the meantime, created a variety of spectacular landscapes and rich, colorful, unique ethnic histories and cultures.
Along the long river of history, traces of the ancient Southern Silk Road & Tea-horse Caravan Road have been disappearing in high mountains and deep valleys, while the Burma Road built in WWII still serves the people...Great changes happened and happens everyday in Southwest China, there is already so much being explored, and still, so much waiting to be explored...
Through our website, we hope we can help you to discover this part of China a little deeper, a little wilder, a little much easier, and a little bit more fun. We wish you have a great journey!
Kunming, Stone Forest, by Wild China Guide.
The Stone Forest Shilin is a notable set of limestone formations located in Shilin Yi County, Yunnan Province, China, approximately 120 km (75 mi) from Kunming. The tall rocks seem to emanate from the ground in the manner of stalagmites, with many looking like petrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone. Since 2007, two parts of the site, the Naigu Stone Forest and Suogeyi Village have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the South China Karst. The site is classified as a AAAAA-class tourist site.

Kunming, Yunnan, West Hill - China Travel Channel
From the West Hill of the city of Kunming, located in the furthest outreaches of Southwest China in the Province of Yunnan over the lake and the city, at an elevation of 2000 m, you have a beautiful panoramic view. The temple complex of Huating and the Taihua Temple are popular excursion destinations. The Sanqing Pavilion and the Dragon's Gate are directly carved in the sheer rock cliffs. The journey up to see them leads over steep steps and narrow paths. Currently however, there are two chair lifts available to bring tourists to the summit in a more comfortable manner.
The mild climate is perfect for tobacco farming which is the city's main source of income. The climate also provides the city its name of The City of Eternal Spring. However, it is ill-rumored that Kunming is the main trans-shipment center for narcotics, since it is located close to the Golden Triangle – just 500 km from Vietnam and Laos and 700 km from Myanmar. Nonetheless, Kunming is an important transport junction and center for industry and trade. Various ores are mined around the Kunming area as well.

Kunming, Yunnan, China - Part 1
Kunming
Source Wikipedia
Kunming is the capital and largest city in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Known as Yunnan-Fu until the 1920s, today it is a prefecture-level city and the political, economic, communications and cultural centre of the province as well as the seat of the provincial government. Kunming is also called the Spring city due to its weather. The city is home to several universities, museums, galleries and other important economic, cultural, and educational institutions. The headquarters of many of Yunnan's large businesses are in Kunming. It was important during World War II as a Chinese military center, American air base, and transport terminus for the Burma Road. Located in the middle of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, Kunming is located at an altitude of 1,900 metres (6,234 feet) above sea level and at a latitude just north of the Tropic of Cancer. It covers an area of 21,473 square kilometres (8,291 sq mi) and its urban area covers 2,622 square kilometres (1,012 sq mi). Kunming has as of 2014 a population of 6,626,000 with an urban population of 4,575,000 and is located at the northern edge of the large Lake Dian, surrounded by temples and lake-and-limestone hill landscapes.
Kunming consists of an old, previously walled city, a modern commercial district, residential and university areas. The city has an astronomical observatory, and its institutions of higher learning include Yunnan University, Yunnan Normal University and a medical college. On the outskirts is a famed bronze temple, dating from the Ming dynasty.
Its economic importance derives from its geographical position. Positioned near the border with Southeastern Asian countries, serving as a transportation hub in Southwest China, linking by rail to Vietnam and by road to Burma and Laos. This positioning also makes it an important trade center in this region of the nation. It also houses some manufacturing, chiefly copper, though some other chemicals, machinery, textiles, paper and cement take key. Though having a nearly 2,400 year history, its modern prosperity dates only from 1910, when the railway from Hanoi was built. The city has continued to develop rapidly under China's modernization efforts. Kunming's streets have widened while office buildings and housing projects develop at a fast pace. Kunming has been designated a special tourism center and as such sports a proliferation of high-rises and luxury hotels.
Kunming will be the hub for the Pan Asia High Speed Network using high speed trains to connect China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore.
