Pieria is one of the regional units of Greece located in the southern part of the Region of Central Macedonia, within the historical province of Macedonia. Its capital is the town of Katerini. Pieria is the smallest regional unit within Macedonia. The name Pieria originates from the ancient Pieres tribe. In Pieria, there are many sites of archeological interest, such as Dion, Pydna, Leivithra and Platamonas. Pieria is also home to Mt.     Olympiaki Akti , or Olympic Beach or Olympic Coast, is a seaside resort village in the eastern part of the regional unit of Pieria in Greece, and belongs to the municipal community of the Katerini. Its beach is part of the Olympian Riviera. The Thermian Gulf is situated to the east. The entire coastline is sand. The Olympiaki Akti is located 2 km S of Paralia, 5 km E of Katerini, SE of Veria, 70 km S of Thessaloniki and the Makedonia International Airport, N of Larissa, NNW of Athens, NE of Tyrnavos, NE of Mount Olympus and 150 km NE of Kalampaka.     Afytos is a village in Chalkidiki, northern Greece. It is part of the municipality Kassandra. It is situated on the northeastern coast of the Kassandra peninsula, 6 km northeast of Kassandreia, 31 km south of Polygyros and 73 km southeast of Thessaloniki. In 2011 its population was 1,273. Its elevation is 50 m. The area around Afytos consists of farmlands in low hills. Its economy is based on agriculture and tourism. Its folklore museum was founded in 1980 by the folklore councillor Nikos Paralis. The town attracts tourists mainly from the surrounding region due to its beaches and local craft markets. The museum is located in the building of the Alevras family. Councils and clubs include the Folklore Friendship Council and Afytos Tradition.

  • 7. Mountain Trail Litochoro - Prionia Litochoro
    Since 1986, nearly every year, various initiators organize marathons in the Olympus Mountains in Greece. For these Olympus Marathons the classic distance of 42.195 kilometers provides a clue to the distance of some of the runs in the Olympus. Starting in 2010, events established that surpass the classic marathon distance. In some races, runners run over distances of 57 km, 70 km or almost 100 km. At the stations along the route, the runners are provided with drinks and snacks and mostly medical aid. They are offered water, electrolytic drinks, bananas, salty biscuits, sandwiches, chocolates and more. The medical care is provided by rescue services. The fastest runners finishes the race in about four hours.
