Fontanellato is a small town in the province of Parma, in northern Italy. It lies on the plains of the River Po near the A1 autostrada, about 20 kilometres west of Parma towards Piacenza. The town was built up in the 15th century around the moated and fortified house of the Sanvitale family, the Rocca Sanvitale, on the borders of the domain of the Dukes of Parma. The house was occupied by the family until 1951, when it was sold to the commune. One notable feature of the Rocca Sanvitale is a room which serves as a large 'Camera Oscura' in which a small hole acts as a lens causing an image of an outside scene to be projected inside the room.     The Rocca Sanvitale, or Sanvitale Castle, is a fortress residence in the centre of the town of Fontanellato, near Parma, northern Italy. Construction of the moated block, accessible through a drawbridge, was begun in the 13th century, mostly completed by the 15th century, with embellishments continuing through to the 18th century. It is prototypical of the urban castle-houses of the turbulent medieval communes of Northern Italy. Until the 1930s it was the home of the descendants of the Count of Sanvitale. The crenelated walls and asymmetric towers are surrounded by an arcaded town. Adjacent to the castle are gardens and a courtyard.     Torrechiara is a frazione of the comune of Langhirano, in the province of Parma, northern Italy. It is especially known for its massive castle, built by Pier Maria II de' Rossi , count of San Secondo, between 1448 and 1460. The building was thought not only as a defensive structure, but also as mansion for the count's lover, Bianca Pellegrini, for which a famous hall, the Camera d'Oro was built with decorations by Benedetto Bembo, sibling of Bonifacio Bembo. Scenes of the 1985 film Ladyhawke were shot at the castle.

This is the last full day Ashley and Mark got to spend together before Mark leaves/ left Ashley in Italy for three months. In an effort to make the most out of the day we tried to take a tour of a parmesan cheese factory in Parma, but had no luck getting a tour. We then headed to Castello di Torrechiara (Torrechiara Castle). We were very happy to get some great drone shots of the castle. We ended the day by the economics university in Parama, eating a kabab and enjoying the local activities.

CASTELLO DI CHILLON

Il castello di Chillon (Château de Chillon) è situato a Veytaux, sulla riva del lago di Ginevra, vicino a Montreux, Svizzera. Esso consta di 100 costruzioni indipendenti che furono gradualmente unite e che adesso formano un unico edificio. Dalla metà del dodicesimo secolo il castello fu dimora dei conti di Savoia, e fu espanso nel tredicesimo secolo da Pietro II di Savoia. Il castello non fu mai conquistato dopo un assedio, ma cambiò proprietà mediante trattative.

Edificato sopra un isolotto roccioso, che aveva la funzione di difesa naturale, mostra ad est (verso la terraferma) una doppia cinta muraria, feritoie ed un fossato. Vi sono 3 corti che si succedono dall'entrata: la bassa corte, la corte del castellano e la corte d'onore. La stanza dei conti di Savoia è abbellita da affreschi del XIV secolo con bestiame al pascolo, mentre la cappella ha affreschi coevi con righe ondulate e figure religiose.Fonte Wikipedia
