Sévérac-le-Château is a former commune in the Aveyron department in southern France. On 1 January 2016, it was merged into the new commune of Sévérac-d'Aveyron.The Château de Sévérac is a 13th-century castle that dominates the town. It is open to the public. This new area of 72,724km² resulting from the merger of two regions of southern France roughly corresponds to the ancient Languedoc, Haut-Languedoc and Lower Languedoc together, but also a part of the province of Biscay centered Auch, and the provinces of Quercy and Rouergue , all traditional Occitan .     The Château de Sévérac is a 13th and 18th centuries castle in the commune of Sévérac-le-Château in the Aveyron département of France.The castle site has belonged to several families: the Sévéracs, Armagnacs, and Arpajons. The latter built a Renaissance style castle whose south face can still be seen.Visitors today can see ramparts, walls, watch towers, the chapel and kitchen, in which demonstrations of medieval cooking are given.
