Carlisle United Football Club is a professional association football club based in Carlisle, Cumbria, where they play at Brunton Park. The team play in League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. Formed in 1904, they have won three league titles and two cup competitions in their history. They played in the then First Division in the 1974–75 season. The club has reached the final of the Football League Trophy 6 times, more than any other team, winning it on two occasions in 1997 and 2011. The club's traditional kit is blue with white and red detail. The badge takes elements from the city's coat of arms including two wyverns.

    Carlisle Lake District Airport is a small regional airport located 5 NM east northeast of Carlisle, Cumbria, England. Carlisle has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction, up to a maximum takeoff weight authorised of 12.5 tonnes. The airport is located on a hill side above the River Irthing. The airport has been the location for some prehistoric excavations Since May 2009, the airport has been owned by the Stobart Group on a 150-year lease, expiring 2151. Between December 2014 and September 2015, a £12 million Freight Distribution Centre was built on the south-eastern corner of the site, which is now leased to Eddie Stobart Logistics.
