Wanaka is, in my opinion, the nicest place in New Zealand as one has it all: from a lovely lake to bathe in and kayak, to a nice little town full of lovely shops, cafe and restaurants to amazing places where to hike and have INCREDIBLE views!

One of New Zealand’s easiest Great Rides, Hauraki Rail Trail follows old railway lines between the historic gold towns of Thames, Paeroa, Te Aroha and Waihi. It offers contrasting scenery from the salt-licked Firth of Thames and verdant Hauraki Plains, to a rocky gorge strewn with intriguing gold mining relics.

About a thousand years ago the forefathers of the Maori discovered the present day New Zealand, the Northern as well as the Southern Island. They called it Aotearoa, the land of the long white cloud. New Zealand has one of the largest volcanic areas in the world.
It was the last large piece of subtropical area in the world people entered into. They found unique flora, remaining from the old Gondwanaland. Gondwana stems from the time New Zealand, Australia and other areas of the Southern hemisphere were still one landmass.
The landscape was formed by beautiful rainforests, hills, mountains, active volcanoes and glaciers. Birds were the main inhabitants of the woods, there were no large mammals.
