Medicine Hat is a city in southeast Alberta, Canada located along the South Saskatchewan River. It is approximately 169 km east of Lethbridge and 295 km southeast of Calgary. This city and the adjacent Town of Redcliff to the northwest are within Cypress County. Medicine Hat was the sixth-largest city in Alberta in 2016 with a population of 63,230. Started as a railroad town, today Medicine Hat is served by the Trans-Canada Highway and the eastern terminus of the Crowsnest Highway . It is not to be confused with Edmonton-Strathcona, a different provincial electoral district within the city of Edmonton created in 1971, nor with the federal electoral district Edmonton—Strathcona.     Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is an interprovincial park straddling the southern Alberta-Saskatchewan boundary, located southeast of Medicine Hat. It is Canada's first and only interprovincial park. The park consists of two protected areas, the 345 km2 west block, that straddles the Alberta/Saskatchewan boundary between Alberta Highway 41, the townsite of Elkwater, Saskatchewan Highway 615, Saskatchewan Highway 271 and Fort Walsh, and the centre block, an additional area of 58 km2 in Saskatchewan, west of Saskatchewan Highway 21.
