Newby Bridge is a small hamlet in the Lake District, Cumbria. Historically in Lancashire, it is located several miles west of Grange-over-Sands and is on the River Leven, close to the southern end of Windermere. The hamlet is the site of an intermediate halt on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. A terrace of houses adjoining the railway were built by the Furness Railway for its workers. The A590 road runs through Newby Bridge connecting Barrow-in-Furness to the M6 motorway close to Kendal. Whilst the main land use is sheep farming, tourism plays a significant part, with the Newby Bridge Caravan Park accommodating many guests each year.

  • 1. Fountains Abbey Ripon
    Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is located approximately 3 miles south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for 407 years becoming one of the wealthiest monasteries in England until its dissolution in 1539 under the order of Henry VIII. The abbey is a Grade I listed building owned by the National Trust and part of the designated Studley Royal Park including the Ruins of Fountains Abbey UNESCO World Heritage Site.
