Abdera is a municipality and a former major Greek polis on the coast of Thrace. The ancient polis is to be distinguished from the municipality, which was named in its honor. The polis lay 17 km east-northeast of the mouth of the Nestos River, almost directly opposite the island of Thasos. It was a colony placed in previously unsettled Thracian territory, not then a part of Hellas, during the age of Greek colonization. The Archaeological Museum of Abdera is a museum in Abdera, Greece. The museum houses archaeological artefacts found in the city which date from around 7th century BC to 13th century AD. The museum was established in January 2000 and the building was designed by the architects Y. Polychroniou and N. Filippidis of the Directorate of Museum Studies of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. The exhibition is displayed in three thematic entities. The first is public life: which includes exhibits related to religion, state organization, coinage, weights and seals and weapons. The Angitis , also known as Angista and Dramatitsa, is a tributary of the Strymonas in Northern Greece. The river is 75 km long and an important tributary of the Strymonas. Its source is in the Falakro mountains, in the regional unit of Drama, near the town of Prosotsani. It flows south until Fotolivos, where it turns west and enters the Serres regional unit. It flows into the Strymonas near Tragilos. The river is the setting for a number of extreme sports, including rafting. The Angitis cave is 21 km long. A short distance from the cave is the gorge of the Angitis, 15 km in length with a depth that reaches 100 m down to the river bed.

Άβδηρα Ξάνθης Υπέροχη Παραλία του Αγίου Ιωάννη

Η ακτή του Αγίου Ιωάννη βρίσκεται στο δυτικό άκρο του
Βιστωνικού Κόλπου, στα νοτιοδυτικά του οικισμού Λεύκιππου.
Επιπρόσθετα, καταλαμβάνει δύο διαδοχικούς, κλειστούς όρμους
με ανατολικό προσανατολισμό.
Η ακτή έχει μήκος 450 μήκος και μέσο πλάτος της τάξης των 15
μέτρων. Η παράκτια ζώνη είναι φυσική, με ποώδη βλάστηση,
ενώ η θαλάσσια βιοποικιλότητα περιλαμβάνει σποραδική
βλάστηση από φαιοφύκη και χλωροφύκη που φύονται στα πρώτα
μέτρα του πυθμένα. Η ακτή είναι αμμώδης, όπως επίσης και ο
θαλάσσιος πυθμένας. Το βάθος των κολυμβητικών υδάτων στα
πρώτα μέτρα θεωρείται μικρό και η κλίση του πυθμένα ήπια,
αφού η ισοβαθής των 5 μέτρων απαντάται σε απόσταση της
τάξης των 90 μέτρων από την ακτή.
Η παραλία δεν είναι οργανωμένη και κατά συνέπεια στερείται
των ανάλογων υποδομών. Κύρια δραστηριότητα επί της ακτής
είναι η κολύμβηση με το μέγιστο αριθμό λουομένων να
εκτιμάται σε 200 άτομα. Σημειώνεται πως στο βορειοανατολικό
τμήμα της ακτής η αλιεία αποτελεί σημαντική δραστηριότητα,
ενώ μικρός αριθμός από αλιευτικά σκάφη αγκυροβολούν στον
κλειστό όρμο. Η πρόσβαση στην παραλία γίνεται οδικώς
αποκλειστικά με ιδιωτικά μέσα μεταφοράς.
Στην άμεση περιοχή της ακτής κυριαρχεί η ασυνεχής αστική
δόμηση του οικισμού Λεύκιππος. Αξίζει επιπλέον να αναφερθεί η
παρουσία του αρχαιολογικού χώρου Αβδήρων, ο οποίος
εντοπίζεται σε μικρή απόσταση από το χώρο της ακτής.
