Rotterdam Water Bus to Dordrecht
Video of a trip from Rotterdam to Dordrecht, one of Holland's great historic cities by waterbus which provides a public transport link in the densely populated greater Rotterdam Rijnmond area where many of Holland's big rivers meet. The trip takes an hour in real time and allows for front row views of Rotterdam's stunning new architecture, the beautiful polder landscape (it passes close to the UNESCO heritage site of Kinderdijk) and the thriving industrial activities on the river banks. Kinderdijk ist ein kleiner Ort in den Niederlanden, der etwa 15 Kilometer südöstlich von Rotterdam in der Provinz Südholland liegt. Der Ort gehört zur Gemeinde Molenwaard auf der Niederung Alblasserwaard und liegt auf dem Polder Nederwaard. Im Nordwesten fließen die Flüsse Lek und Noord, die den Ort von zwei Seiten einschließen, zur Nieuwen Maas zusammen. Bekannt ist der Ort für seine Mühlen, die 1997 in die UNESCO-Liste des Welterbes aufgenommen wurden.
Der Name „Kinderdijk (Kinderdeich) erklärt sich laut einer Legende folgendermaßen: Bei der Elisabethenflut 1421 soll eine Wiege mit einem weinenden Kind und einer Katze unversehrt auf den Deich gespült worden sein. Eine andere Legende besagt hingegen, dass der Deich durch Kinderarbeit entstanden sein soll.
De molens van Kinderdijk betreffen negentien molens in het noordwesten van de Alblasserwaard, een streek in de provincie Zuid-Holland. Alhoewel ze worden aangeduid als behorend tot het dorpje Kinderdijk (gemeente Molenwaard) ligt één molen net daarbuiten (De Blokker), in de gemeente Alblasserdam. Het gaat om poldermolens, die een molengang vormen en een grote (ook internationale) toeristische trekpleister zijn. Alle negentien molens van het complex zijn eigendom van de Stichting Werelderfgoed Kinderdijk. Sinds 1997 staan ze op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO en het gebied is tevens een beschermd dorpsgezicht. De molenrijen zijn slechts te voet of per fiets goed te bezichtigen. Eén van de molens, vrij dicht bij het bebouwde gedeelte van Kinderdijk, is ook van binnen te bezichtigen (in de winterperiode alleen in het weekend).
De molens bij Kinderdijk zijn gebouwd vanaf het einde van de veertiende eeuw, maar de overblijvende molens dateren uit 1738 en 1740.

The windmills at Kinderdijk are a group of 19 monumental windmills in the Alblasserwaard polder, in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. Most of the mills are part of the village of Kinderdijk in the municipality of Molenwaard, and one mill, De Blokker, is part of the municipality of Alblasserdam. Built in 1738 and 1740, to keep water out of the polder, it is the largest concentration of old windmills in the Netherlands and one of the best-known Dutch tourist sites. The mills are listed as national monuments and the entire area is a protected village view since 1993. They have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
